Empress as Strength

Venus moves into Leo today and will stay there until August 21.

From a Tarot perspective, it’s like the Empress is dressed in Strength’s clothing. She’s wearing white and playing with a lion.

The Empress loves everyone. At her best, she’s open-hearted, generous and loyal.

She’s the grand mother figure of the Tarot, from whom the whole world is born.

Devoted to her offspring, she does her best to make their world as beautiful and full of love as possible.

She is creativity and sensuality. And not just from a distance. She’s hands on, a joyful participant in the wonders of the real world.

Strength is concerned less with love than with passion. She’s pure yet powerful, able to control the restless fire of her inner soul.

She knows how to temper her ego and direct it to best effect. Creative energy is all around her, but it’s more spiritual than physical.

She’s a master of control. When she’s on, even a lion will bow to her graces. When she’s not, stubborn arrogance can be the result.

The Empress isn’t sure how she feels in this position. She’s happy to play with the lion, but a little wary of too much fire.

Venus in Leo, or the Empress in Strength’s clothing, is a good time to turn your passion towards the nurturance of others.

It feels good right now to share. There’s power in devotion.

Emotions could run high, especially when it comes to questions of art, love and women in general. But that can be good, as long as you don’t force your feelings on others.

Try to avoid righteousness, even if it’s coming from a place of deep concern. Love should be flowing, not a tool of control.

Magician as Hermit

Mercury moves into Virgo today, and stays there until August 8.

Through the eyes of the Tarot, this transit is like the Magician is wearing the Hermit’s clothes. He’s left his garden and is trekking through the snow.

The Magician has inspirational power. He’s focused, clear, intent on his goal. And he gets others excited about it with him.

He’s a master communicator, spinning words like silk, able to convince anyone of pretty much anything.

The Magician is quick, fresh, and eager to discover where his next idea leads. If it gets dull he moves on. There are infinite possibilities, no need to get stuck in anything that doesn’t inspire.

The Hermit, on the other hand, is an old man, wise and slow. He’s not at all concerned with being quick, fresh or starting new. He’s much more interested in digging in and seeing what he’s already got.

His wisdom comes from experience, earned day by day through a long life. Nothing much surprises him. He’s seen it all, both within himself, and in the world outside.

The Hermit’s a solitary walker, though not at all unfriendly. If you’re interested in where he’s going, he’s happy to have you along.

But he won’t push, and isn’t particularly interested in convincing you of anything, except maybe to look within yourself to find what you need.

The Magician has to really slow down when he’s dressed as the Hermit, and it’s not always easy for him. But he likes the meditative atmosphere of the mountain, and is confident he’ll leave it knowing something more about himself.

Mercury in Virgo, or the Magician wearing the Hermit’s clothes, is a time of intense internal clarity. You know what you know, and can see it with fresh eyes.

It’s a good time to clear out stale old perspectives. Shine light on your inner wisdom and don’t be afraid to let others know what you’ve found.

There’s a tension now between the old and the new. Use it to dig through past ideas and experiences. Not for nostalgia’s sake, but in order to figure out what’s worthy enough to revitalize, and what might as well be discarded.

And try not to be frustrated if you have to move slower than your thoughts want to go, especially when Mercury goes retrograde on August 2. Sometimes we just have to slow down a little to really figure things out.

7 of Wands

You don’t know what’s coming next or from which direction it’s coming. Valour is important today. Stay true to yourself, firm in your stance and be prepared for anything and everything.

There will be a lot on the go and you’ll probably feel tested. But if you keep your chin up, your back strong and take things one step at a time, the results will be well worthwhile.

Stay strong – you’ve got it in you. And whether or not you recognize it, you’re in a position of strength.
