Protesting Astrology in Dorset

A group in the UK calling themselves the Christian Soldiers Dorset, intend to protest outside a Pagan Moot in Bridport on July 5th.

They mean it to be a peaceful vigil to warn people, especially the young, about the dangers of the occult. The group plans to protest other occult events as well.

Organizer of the Moot, Adam Marlborough, thinks that the group should be allowed to protest if they want to, though they’ll be disappointed if they’re looking for satanists. He believes in freedom of speech, and understands that everyone has their own perspective.

But he thinks the group could find better things to do with their time, and wonders whether they would have the courage to protest meetings of more mainstream religious groups.

I have to agree. There are a lot of problems in the world that are worth speaking up against. A Pagan meet-up about Earth Astrology and Colour Energy isn’t one of them.

Moon in Cancer – High Priestess Dressed as the Charioteer

The High Priestess dressed as the Chariot

High Priestess in Chariot's Clothing

The Moon moves into Cancer today, and stays there until Saturday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, you might describe it as the High Priestess dressed in the clothing of the Charioteer. She’s left the safety of her pillars and veil, and has hit the road.

The Moon in Cancer, or the High Priestess dressed as the Charioteer, can be a powerful time of comfortable change and emotional resilience.

Knowledge gathered in silence has coalesced and it’s time to share without fear of being hurt.

Emotional loyalty, intuitive direction and strength of character can give you the resolve to go forward. Even into the unknown.

Try not to coddle yourself. You can only win if you have the courage to play to the end.

Page of Swords

It’s a day to dissolve the fog and start looking at things with fresh and honest eyes.  With a commitment to clarity, new ideas and a new sense of authority will be close on the horizon.

Take things in hand and energetically start slicing through any fuzziness you’ve not wanted to look past till now.  Are you happy with what you’re seeing?  If yes – go forward with strength.  If not, figure out what you actually want, re-direct yourself towards it and go forward with strength.

In either case, you need to see things for what they really are before you can intelligently decide what your next step might be.   This is no time to fool yourself.   It’s a time to take charge, be realistic and be strong.

Beyond Belief on Primetime Nightline

June 29th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

As part of their Primetime Nightline summer programming, ABC News is premiering the Beyond Belief series. And it could be interesting.

The first installment, called Twintuition, examines the special connection between twins, and what their extraordinary communication might mean to the rest of us.

Next they’ll be looking at miracles, travelling around the world to places the Virgin Mary has been sighted. They’ll spend an episode on demonic possession, and another exploring modern-day psychics.

The series concludes with Bob Woodruff investigating out-of-body near death experiences, including his own.

The five part series starts tonight, Wednesday, June 29th at 10pm ET, and continues each Wednesday through July 27th. I hope it’s good.

#12 – The Hanged Man

This isn’t the day for action.  It’s time to slow down and take a close look at what’s been going on. And if you can do it from a different perspective – great!   Choose a comfortable place to relax and review what you’ve been up to.  It might seem like a sacrifice, but it’s well worth it.

Are there patterns in your life that seem to becoming more obvious than usual? This is a wonderful time to pay attention to how you’re life’s been going these last three months or so.  Does it remind you of another time – maybe 12 years ago?

Look carefully at any people, places or things from your past (or that remind you of the past) that might unexpectedly appear. They might be highlighting particular areas in your life you’re repeating. Is it a repetition you’re happy with?

After you’ve done some review, start thinking about where you want to go next.  Your old ways are almost over.  Think about the new patterns you want to develop – you’ll be ready to start them soon enough.  For now, relax, review and let yourself imagine?

The Bone Tarot in Reno, Nevada

Justice

A lot of people shy away from the Death card in Tarot, using different labels, or not naming the card at all.

Artist and poet Ricardo Olvera has taken a completely different perspective, and has used death as a main feature throughout his deck.

He’s created The Bone Tarot, an art exhibit made up of twenty-two pieces, each work an assemblage of animal bones and found objects, and based on one of the Major Arcana.

Olvera sees the show as a ‘symbolic mandala’, each piece important on its own, but even more meaningful as part of a grander whole.

He uses the bones to highlight the tension between life and death, and to show that one cannot be without the other.

Olvera’s sculptural deck is not meant for divination, though he says it can be used that way too. He sees it more as an homage, his interest being strictly aesthetic.

But as with divination, appreciating visual art involves looking and interpreting. As one explores a piece, or a card, the process of interpretation itself invokes insight.

The show opens tomorrow and runs through July 30th at Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery in Reno, Nevada at the University of Nevada.

Olvera will give a lecture about his work at the opening reception, Wednesday, July 13th.

If you’re in the area, take a look.

Moon in Gemini – High Priestess Dressed as the Lovers' Angel

high priestess as the lovers' angel

High Priestess dressed as Lovers' Angel

The Moon moves into Gemini today and will stay there until Thursday.

From a Tarot perspective, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Lovers’ Angel. She floats above the naked couple, blessing their sacred union.

The Moon in Gemini, or High Priestess dressed as the Lovers’ angel, can be an emotionally confusing time, one where internal conflicts arise in order to be reconciled.

But it can also be a time of clarity, honest communication and almost intuitive understanding about yourself and those around you.

Quiet faith teams up with commitment and the Angels approve of the whole thing.

Try to keep your emotions in line with your reason. Going too far either way could disturb a really nice balance.

#14 – Temperance

This is a great day to even things out. Balance and temperance are the energies surrounding you now. Can you bring your physical world into harmony with your emotional state?

Temperance is about that perfect mix, neither too much nor too little. It’s about becoming conscious of what you want to be both inside and out, and courageous enough to try.

You are responsible for any healing you might need. The first step is to acknowledge what might be out of balance and then start readjusting.

Sometimes it’s about finding a new way to meld your internal opposites; sometimes it’s about casting out what no longer works. In all cases though, it’s about being true to your self and connecting to the grander universe.

Try asking an angel for some help today. You might be surprised at the result.

Citizens of Meridian Comment on Fortune-Telling Ban

June 27th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

City Council may have decided that they don’t want fortune-telling in Meridian, Mississippi, but the rest of the town isn’t so sure.

Take a look at the WTOK report on citizen reaction to Council’s decision.

People might not be interested in getting a reading themselves, but they don’t like the ban. Especially if it draws a lawsuit for being unconstitutional.

Dana Jones of Meridian has started a petition asking that Council reverse its decision. If you’re from the area, you might want to sign.

Comments posted on both her petition page and the WTOK report seem to support lifting the prohibition.

I don’t know that they’re actually representative of the general population, but they’re clearly concerned about the influence of personal religious beliefs on political decision-making.

Council may have thought that they closed this issue last Tuesday, but it might not be done yet.

Queen of Swords from Georgie's Deck

Queen of Swords

Queen of Swords

The truth is an important commodity right now.  Getting through the fog and cutting out that which no longer works is a priority.

You might be feeling a little hardcore, a little less sympathetic to sob stories and other tales of woe than usual.  That’s all right.  Sometimes it’s more important to be clear than to be sweet.

Get the job done and do it with the determination, diligence and discernment that you expect from others.

Keep in mind though that the bigger picture includes compassion.  You need not be cruel or mean to be truthful and serious.

Not everyone is as tough-skinned as you are right now, so be aware of the potential effect your words might have.
