I’ve been waiting with bated breath for this documentary, and now it’s almost here.
No, not the much anticipated Enrique Enriquez: Tarology, Exploring the Poetics of the Marseilles Tarot, which I’m also very much looking forward to, but The Life and Times of Paul the Psychic Octopus, directed by Alexandre Phillipe.
Paul, of course, came to fame in 2010 when he correctly predicted the winners of eight consecutive Soccer World Cup matches.
His death in the fall of that year was mourned throughout the world, and a monument was erected in his honour at the Sea Life Aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany where he lived.
Now his story is being immortalized in a bio-pic about his life. It not only tells the tale of one amazing cephalopod, it examines some of the questions raised by his apparent powers of pre-cognition.
What’s the world to do with evidence of a psychic octopus? His mere existence is a serious source of wonder.
The film should be out in the fall. I can’t wait!!
