This is by no means an exhaustive list. I just tried to keep it down to ten. And they’re all books I’ve read (or re-read) over this last year. It’s fresh in my mind how much I like them.
Optimism and rejuvenation are the themes for the day. Active generosity and compassion come easy so don’t hold back. Give and you will receive. Embrace the Universe’s capacity to provide you with what you need when you need it most. That’s what miracles are and the Star is the goddess of miracles.
If things have been tough lately, now’s a time when you can finally lean back and take a bit of a break. Surround yourself with as much beauty as you can. It will help to replenish your soul. Art, music, and the glory of the night sky are all worthy subjects of meditation. Let them fill you with the inspiration you need for the next leg of your journey.
There’s so much to do right now you probably feel you can’t keep up. Don’t worry – you can. Just keep things in motion and try to stay focused on whatever task you’re working on at each particular moment. You’ve got more than enough energy for everything right now, try not to give up.
Emotionally things might get a little hairy, but as with your work, you’re more than able to cope. The changes going on in your life right now are good ones. You’ve put them into motion yourself and you’ll be just fine.
Today it was 14 degrees F (felt like -3) and dark by just after 4:00. When I turned on the news I saw ‘severe weather’ across the continent. And North America isn’t alone; Europe is getting blasted too. Snow and cold everywhere!
It’s time to check in with the cards again. What can I do to cope with this winter?
Page of Swords
I first asked, ‘how bad is it really going to be?’, at least in my general area. I got the Page of Swords. It’s a pretty cold card to me. Those clouds feel like snow squalls, and the birds are flying high, like they do when the wind really gets blowing below.
At least the card is kind of bright. The sun’s not visible, but it’s no Hermit or 5 of Pentacles. Looks like the weather in Toronto will be cold, blowing and fairly snowy through January, but maybe not as bad as it could be. No doubt though, I’ll be needing my heavy coat.
4 of Wands
My next question was ‘what attitude will serve me best to get through this cold.’ I got the 4 of Wands. Is it mocking me with its sunshine and bare-armed celebrants?
Unless there’s a serious warm front on the way, I think this card is telling me to have fun. Enjoy friends and family through the holidays and be creative. Use that wand energy to make something I care about real. Find something to celebrate and let the cold be damned. The fire is inside.
Finally I asked, ‘what would be a good way to spend my time while the winds howl outside?’ The World card, #21 showed up. A naked woman dancing in a wreath?
#21 The World
I think she’s inside looking out, as if through a window decorated for Christmas. The clouds outside look cold and snowy, not unlike the ones with the Page of Swords. But she seems comfy, no clouds inside. In fact, it’s warm enough to wear only a scarf.
I’m struck again by the call to celebration. And like the 4 of Wands, there’s a theme of completion. I’m being asked to get busy, finish up a long project. Something that can be worked on from inside the house. I have a lot of things on the go so this certainly makes sense.
But there’s a bigger feeling of ending here, an ending with joy. Like New Year’s Eve perhaps? Closing up 2010 and getting ready for a brand new decade.
Winter is here and it’s cold outside, but I know what I need to do. Dress warm, get some of my projects wrapped up, and enjoy myself as much as possible. It’s not going to be so bad. I might even have a very good time.
Get down to work. Nothing exciting going on, except maybe the chance to get more done than you thought you would.
Follow the template and don’t worry about being particularly innovative today. It’s probably more important to just get it done.
To motivate yourself try remembering that what you’re working on now is setting you up for your future. Put in the effort and it’ll ultimately pay off.
This is a photo tarot deck I shot in June. Like my Graffiti Tarot, it’s Majors only for now. And you might notice I’ve stolen some cards from this one for the Graffiti deck. I couldn’t resist.
I really encourage people to go ahead and create a photo deck for themselves. Walk around your town, city, house, wherever you are. You can find Tarot symbols all over the place. Some might be hidden, but they’re all there if you look.
This is a day for looking forward. You’ve got some time and you’re in a good position to look around and see what you want to do next. The world is literally in your hands and it’s up to you to decide the next move.
What is it that makes you feel most in control of your domain? What is it that makes you feel you’re really doing what you’re supposed to be doing?
Don’t rush this – it takes some serious consideration. Use this time to start getting a grip on your destiny. You’re in charge of this one. Don’t be afraid to take control. Your option is to let someone else.
The art project was to ‘make a middle aged themed body of work with tarot or actual playing cards.’
I’m not sure what the ‘middle aged themed body of work’ part means, but it got Dana Couture drawing. Here’s her card. And the very pretty Le Derniers des Cosmaunautes by Andrea Lindsay as soundtrack.
Spiritual questions and tradition are highlighted during this period. It’s probably important to you now to look carefully at the spiritual structures in your life. Why do you believe what you do? Who are your spiritual authorities and what gives them their legitimacy? Who decides issues of morality for you, your family and/or your community?
Many of these questions are answered with cultural traditions. Today, you’ll probably be examining whether or not the answers you’re accustomed to are still satisfactory. They might be or they might not be. Don’t be afraid to seek out your truth simply because it rubs against your comfort zone. Sometimes growth hurts a bit.
You might be asked to judge someone else’s dispute, or find the need to go to an authority for answers yourself. Keep your mind open, but your skepticism on. Ultimately, you’re the only one who can decide whether something makes sense for your life or not.
