#2 – The High Priestess

This is a good day to give your spirit some serious attention.  Take a little time by yourself to think about what it is that you believe.  What do you think of the world and your place in it?  What ultimately gives your life meaning?

It’s also a good time right now to pay attention to the messages other people have been sending you.   Let yourself absorb the world around you without feeling the need to jump in right away and take action.  This is a better time to sit and receive than to act.

Observe, listen and think about what it is you’re doing.  Through reflection you’ll start to see all sides.  Through this wider perspective you’ll find the priorities and direction that can help you on your path.

Neptune in Pisces – The Hanged Man in the Moon's Clothing

The Hanged Man in the Moon's Clothing

Hanged Man dressed as the Moon

Neptune moves into Pisces tonight and stays there until August 5th.

Looking at this transit from a tarot perspective, it’s like the Hanged Man is dressed as the Moon. He’s dangling in the dark.

The Hanged Man is about patience, sacrifice and new perspectives. Nothing needs to be rushed and there’s nowhere to go.

He wants you to see things differently than you’re used to. And to do so you have to take some time out from the bustling turmoil.

The Hanged Man chooses to be where he is. Turning things upside down might be uncomfortable at times, but without some inversion, there’s ultimately no balance.

The Moon is darkness, mystery and the secrets of the night. It’s daytime in reverse, a time when shadows reign.

Instincts become more valuable than rules, and dreams more real than consciousness.

The Moon reflects the light, like a mirror or the ocean. It distorts and reconfigures what’s familiar. Sometimes in ways that make us afraid.

The Hanged Man doesn’t mind being here. He’s intrigued by the shadows, amused by how they transform what he sees.

Neptune in Pisces, or the Hanged Man in the Moon’s clothing, is a good time for spiritual exploration. It’s easier to be open when all boundaries have melted.

During this period it’s useful to pay attention to recurring thoughts, symbols and dreams. If an idea keeps presenting itself, take a closer look.

And don’t be afraid to turn your ideas around, facing them from a different angle. Emotional and intellectual flexibility can be rewarding.

Be still, watch and listen. Enlightenment can shine bright in the dark.

Moon in Taurus – High Priestess in the Hierophant's Clothing

The High Priestess dressed as the Hierophant

High Priestess in Hierophant's Clothes

The Moon moves into Taurus tonight and stays there until Thursday.

If you look at this transit through the eyes of the Tarot, it would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Hierophant. She’s sitting before two acolytes and sharing the secrets she usually guards.

The High Priestess is understanding, receptive clarity, and quiet, yet profound, spiritual conviction.

She is the holy feminine, the virginal priestess. She willingly submits to life’s realities, but isn’t confined by the physical.

The High Priestess holds the book, the word, the codified explanation to the mysteries of the universe. But unless required, she keeps these secrets to herself.

The Hierophant is also a keeper of secrets, mysteries and the word from on high. But he’s actively willing to share.

In fact, the Hierophant sees his role as the ambassador of the spirit, the arbiter of truth in its most sublime form.

Bring the big questions before him and he will decide. He’s the human connection to the divine. He is Holy Law.

The High Priestess feels all right in this position. She might not be so accustomed to making decisions for others, but she’s certainly comfortable in her faith, and in her ability to interpret the law.

The Moon in Taurus, or High Priestess in the Hierophant’s clothes, is a time of spiritual and emotional certitude.

There’s a sense that the truth can be explained, understood and incorporated into daily life. Rules can and should be followed.

Instead of trying to force others to recognize what you know to be certain, try using this time to simply share your emotional, intellectual and spiritual perceptions.

Celebrate the diversity of spirit in our world, while figuring out for yourself what rules, spiritual or otherwise, work best for you.

#11 – Strength

Learn to direct your inner wildness during this period of fiery intensity and your personal power is likely to grow.  Innocence and purity work together to balance your passion with wisdom.

Explore ways to act assertively but without aggression.  The gentle touch might go a lot further than a loud voice or an impetuous rage.

It’s a very creative time and you’re encouraged to allow yourself room to flourish.  Don’t be shy.  This is the moment to take action and move forward with plans you may have held off on until now.

In Search Of … an art show

April 3rd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

A plastic crystal ball, a giant wish bone and a Ouija board planchette big enough to be a coffee table.

These are only a few of the magical pieces you’ll see at In Search Of, an art show by Andrew Mowbray at Boston’s La Montagne Gallery.

All the pieces represent objects people go to, either to foretell the future, or to try to direct it in their favour.

Mowbray plays with the ideas of finding meaning in art, by playing with objects that people fill with meaning. And apparently he’s found it all a little absurd. But fun.

Who can be sure if there’s really meaning in anything beyond what we project, but I do know I want one of those giant planchettes.

The show only runs until Saturday, April 16th, so if you’re in the Boston area, go soon.

Mars in Aries – The Tower as the Emperor's Throne

April 2nd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

The Tower as the Emperor's Throne

Tower as Emperor's Throne

Mars moves into Aries tonight and stays there until May 11th.

Looking at this transit from a tarot perspective, it’s like the Emperor was sitting in his castle just as the lightening struck. His stone throne is exploding.

The Tower is about drastic change, shocking turns of fate and unexpected disturbances. To call its arrival a surprise is typically an understatement.

All you thought was stable and sure is suddenly in turmoil. Structures that seemed fool safe no longer protect you.

The Tower is a breakdown of foundations, the destruction of boundaries. Though it brings chaos in its wake, it’s also a source of liberation.

The Emperor is a man who thrives in chaos. He’s the god of war.

Though his goal is to create stability, a foundation that’s strong enough to maintain itself, his methods are hardly peaceful.

The Emperor sets the world on fire. He moves people, inspires, and enrages. He demands control and settles for nothing less than complete sovereignty.

The Tower is at home in the Emperor’s domain. It shatters his control, but gives him an opportunity to fight. Something he does best.

Mars in Aries, or the Tower as the Emperor’s throne, is likely to be an exciting time. What you thought would never change suddenly does.

It could just be a way of seeing things. Old ideas are shattered and inspiration to begin afresh becomes overwhelming.

Or things might really be changing. New circumstances present themselves without warning and the way you were approaching a situation no longer works.

Destroy inertia and create a new world for yourself. This is a time of great power.

Potentially challenging, yes. But also a chance to take charge in your life like you never thought possible.

Moon in Aries – High Priestess in the Emperor's Clothing

April 2nd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

High Priestess dressed as the Emperor

High Priestess dressed as Emperor

The Moon moved into Aries this morning and will stay there until Monday.

Translating this transit into Tarot Cards, it would be like the High Priestess is wearing the Emperor’s clothing. She’s in scarlet and armor and is ready for battle.

The High Priestess is receptive wisdom. She silently sits between the pillars of life, watching, listening and responding.

It isn’t her way to make a fuss and normally you won’t hear from her unless you seek her out.

The High Priestess is content with where she is, emotionally and mentally at peace. She receives rather than asserts.

The Emperor, on the other hand, makes it clear to everyone what it is that he wants. If there was ever a master of assertion, he’s it.

The Emperor is initiatory power. He makes things happen. He is material strength and masculine authority.

Rulership and government, warfare and sometimes domination. The Emperor is the man in charge.

The High Priestess is a little unsure of herself in this position. She’s being asked not only to choose, but to demand.

The Moon in Aries, or High Priestess in the clothing of the Emperor, is a time of intensified emotions. You might feel an increased desire to shape your own world.

Rather than sitting back in stillness, this transit encourages the loosening of emotional restrictions and the conscious expression of enthusiasm and/or passion.

It might be uncomfortable at first, but allow yourself to speak out loud. Take steps forward to let people know what you know and what you love.

Try to remain objective and open-minded while acting with determination and direction. It might sound impossible, but you can do both if you try.
