Sun as Strength

The Sun moves into Leo today, and stays there until August 23.

If we look at this transit through the eyes of the Tarot, it’s like the Sun Child is dressed in Strength’s clothing. He’s traded in his horse for a lion, and has thrown on a light gown.

The Sun is victory, exuberance and unbridled joy. The naked child has made it through the night and can’t wait to celebrate.

Nothing is hidden because there’s nothing to hide. Shadows disappear, whether we want them to or not.

The Sun announces the end of a long cycle. It’s the promised harvest after a season of toil.

Strength is pretty sunny herself, enjoying the golden sky as she plays with her lion.

The maiden is in control, innocence conquering brute power. She doesn’t need to force anything. It’s finding the flow that matters most.

Strength is the ego uninhibited by conventionalities, but under the firm reign of compassion and love.

The Sun is particularly comfortable in the position of Strength. He’s right at home with the weather, and very much enjoys playing with the King of the Jungle.

The Sun in Leo, or the Sun dressed in Strength’s clothing is a time to shine. Even if you want to hide, there won’t be many dark corners to crawl into.

Creative energies are high, as is the confidence to share what you create.

Don’t be shy. As long as you keep your ego in check, it will be hard to go wrong.

Let openness and enthusiasm rule whatever it is you’re engaged in. There’s a lot of power in play, so enjoy.

High Priestess in Hierophant's Clothes

If you look at this transit through the eyes of the Tarot, it would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Hierophant. She’s sitting before two acolytes and sharing the secrets she usually guards.

The Moon in Taurus, or High Priestess in the Hierophant’s clothes, is a time of spiritual and emotional certitude.

There’s a sense that the truth can be explained, understood and incorporated into daily life. Rules can and should be followed.

Instead of trying to force others to recognize what you know to be certain, try using this time to simply share your emotional, intellectual and spiritual perceptions.

Celebrate the diversity of spirit in our world, while figuring out for yourself what rules, spiritual or otherwise, work best for you.

#11 – Strength

Learn to direct your inner wildness during this period of fiery intensity and your personal power is likely to grow.  Innocence and purity work together to balance your passion with wisdom.

Explore ways to act assertively but without aggression.  The gentle touch might go a lot further than a loud voice or an impetuous rage.

It’s a very creative time and you’re encouraged to allow yourself room to flourish.  Don’t be shy.  This is the moment to take action and move forward with plans you may have held off on until now.

I had to wait till it was in reruns, but I’ve finally seen the episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills with the famous dinner blow-out involving medium, Allison Dubois.

What started as a tense but potentially pleasant girls’ night, turned into a dining room brawl.

The ladies already had some issues between them, but the introduction of psychic readings into a potentially explosive situation only made things worse. Add giant cocktails to the mix and look out.

From an entertainment perspective, the show was great. Seeing Dubois suck on her electronic cigarette and look knowingly around with each exhale was amusing. But what she had to say to the other guests was more shocking than funny.

Granted, she was somewhat goaded into doing readings at a dinner party, where as she pointed out, she was ‘off the clock’. Maybe the other ladies shouldn’t have been so insistent about getting a sample of her work. But who could blame them?

A famous medium was at the party who made it clear to all of them that she had access to information they might want to know. Of course they wondered if she ‘saw anyone’ around them.

As it turned out, Dubois ‘appeased’ the Housewives and delivered some rather scathing messages, apparently from loved ones passed. The messages were not well received.

I don’t know whether anything Dubois related was accurate or not. From the looks of it, the message about an unfulfilled marriage may have been more useful to Camille Grammer at the time, than to Kyle. But that’s not my point here.

I think what this episode makes so clear is that psychic readings aren’t really party tricks. By that I don’t mean that you can’t have psychic readings at parties. I’ve been hired to read at many parties, and have often read for friends and families at parties I attend.

What I mean is that doing readings in front a group of people always brings the risk that something you don’t want publically revealed is suddenly the topic of the gathering.

If you have a reader at a party, consider giving them a place of their own away from the main crowd. If people want to bring their friends to sit with them they can, but the reading doesn’t have to be shared with the entire group. In fact, it’s usually better if it’s not.

And if a guest at a party you’re at turns out to be a reader, go ahead and ask about their work. But it’s probably best not to ask for a reading from them in front of everyone. You really don’t know what might come up, and as evidenced by the Real Housewives, it might be more than you intended.

This is a good day to get your thoughts as clear as possible.  You’ve got some emotional issues that require honest focused attention.  To move forward with your commitment to self, it’s really important that you get your thoughts straight.

What choices are you being asked to make at this time?  Look them squarely in the face and choose.  If you can’t choose now, when do you think you can?  At least decide that.  Ask yourself what will bring you closer to your own truth – a union of mind, body and soul.

You’re sharp as a tack today.  Take advantage of the energy to decide what needs deciding.  You can do it.  How will you get to your next step if you don’t?

A lot of cities have lumped adult entertainment businesses, like strip clubs and adult bookshops, into the same category as psychic reading businesses.

They’re both often zoned outside of the downtown core and kept away from schools, churches and residential areas.

Some psychic readers have taken offense to such designations. Others, however, have decided to embrace the situation and offer some titty with their Tarot.

At the Big Easy Cabaret, a gentleman’s club in Baltimore City, Maryland, not only are patrons treated to the standard dancing naked ladies. If they’re so inclined, they can also get their cards read by a topless Tarot reader.

The two worlds have officially met. It was bound to happen sometime.

3 of Disks

You’ve been working hard and the people that matter are starting to take notice.  Take pride in doing a good job.  You’re becoming a master at your trade.  Mastery requires not only technical skill, but also an appreciation for the art in what you do.

When you care about your job or the tasks you’ve taken on, the work involved is rarely a chore.  Look at your tasks as the creative processes they are. 

Whatever you’re doing, you’re creating something, bringing something new into the world.  Consider your role as creator with the seriousness it deserves.

You’re becoming very good at what you’ve been working hard on.  Congratulations, keep it up.

The Star

The Star card in the Tarot is one of my favourites. It’s full of hope, serenity and rejuvenation after the storm.

For me the figure pouring water is like Kuan Yin, healing us all with her infinite compassion.

And the stars in the card are especially nice. As Robert Place describes them, they’re the ‘celestial ladder of ascent’, a starry stairway to heaven.

One of my clients liked them so much she decided to put them on her body forever. She got herself a Tarot Star Tattoo. And it looks fabulous.

She was good enough to share a couple of pictures of her new Stars with us all. Take a look. I love them!

High Priestess dressed as Emperor

The Moon moves into Aries today and will stay there until Saturday.

Translating this transit into Tarot Cards, it would be like the High Priestess is wearing the Emperor’s clothing. She’s in scarlet and armor and is ready for battle.

The Moon in Aries, or High Priestess in the clothing of the Emperor, is a time of intensified emotions. You might feel an increased desire to shape your own world.

Rather than sitting back in stillness, this transit encourages the loosening of emotional restrictions and the conscious expression of enthusiasm and/or passion.

It might be uncomfortable at first, but allow yourself to speak out loud. Take steps forward to let people know what you know and what you love.

Try to remain objective and open-minded while acting with determination and direction. It might sound impossible, but you can do both if you try.

Ace of Wands

The flame has been ignited and there’s a new feeling floating around.  This is a day to let inspiration lead the way. 

Throw out your old excuses and start something you really care about.  Passion and fire are what motivates the soul and it’s time to listen to yours.

You might not yet know what’s different but you know your old way of doing things is no longer possible.  A new spirit has been planted and you can probably feel the excitement beginning to build.

Whatever it is that moves you with enthusiasm should be your starting point.  Being true to your spirit isn’t being selfish.  It’s what makes you fully human.
