Sun in Virgo – Sun Dressed in the Hermit's Clothing

Sun Dressed in the Hermit's Clothing - Sun in Virgo

The Sun moves into Virgo today and will be there until September 23rd.

If we look at this transit from a Tarot perspective, it would be like the Sun child is wearing the Hermit’s clothing. He’s tucked his curls into a cowl and is wandering in the snow.

The Sun is bright light and enthusiasm. Its brilliance is our source of life, and in the Tarot it means that the journey’s almost done. It’s time to celebrate before moving on.

The Sun child wants to play, wants to throw off all limitations and enjoy. It doesn’t matter what the party’s for, it just has to be fun.

Nothing is hidden, no secrets, no clothes. There’s no room for being shy, and no fear of trying everything. Optimism is as big as the day.

Very different is the Hermit. He’s old, and gray and lives in the dark, though he does carry a little sun with him wherever he goes.

His wisdom comes through experience, a long life and a willingness to turn inward, facing his shadows and his past.

The Hermit is not without humour, but he’ll typically pass on a party. He’s been to many in his time. Now he enjoys being alone.

The Sun child is keen wherever he is, and though he’s not accustomed to the snow, the dark, or the heavy garments, he’s willing to give it a go with a smile.

The Sun in Virgo, or the Sun child dressed in the Hermit’s clothing is a time of enthusiastic order, and wisdom laid bare.

Enjoy learning, digging up the details, and brightening old ways of doing things with fresh insight.

Tie up loose strings, finish outstanding projects, and gather the information you’re going to need for the next stage of your journey.

In a phrase – get organized. There’s energy to do it now that can make the process a pleasure rather than a chore.

And don’t worry if you’re not moving as fast as you might normally. Take your time. We can miss so much when we hurry.

Creative vision, a fiery temperament, inspirational thinking – it could be an exciting day.   You have the capacity to focus your passionate energy into something constructive.

If it’s been difficult to get going with an enterprise that really matters to your soul, this is a great day to clear through the cobwebs. Take your fire and run with it.

But don’t forget to enjoy your strength wisely.  No one likes a tyrant. Get to work on your goal, but don’t assume that everyone else is going to follow your lead. They might be feeling a lot like you are today and are probably looking for some followers themselves.

The Get Organized Spread

August 22nd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Mercury will be going direct on Friday, so if communication, calculation, and travel have been a bit crazy lately, don’t despair, things should start getting back to normal soon.

And not only is the retrograde ending, but with September on it’s way, a new season is about to begin.

It sounds like a good time to get organized, at least for me. Things are likely to start getting busy again and I want to be prepared.

2 of Pentacles from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

The 2 of Pentacles from the Rider Waite Smith deck came to mind when I started thinking about what the Tarot has to say about getting organized.

In the image, a man in an unusual hat is holding a couple of pentacles in front of some water. Boats go by behind him, rocking with the waves, but staying afloat.

I typically see this card as representing harmonious change, like the movement from one season to the next. It points to taking care of the little details necessary for the transition to go smoothly.

It’s a busy rather than a heavy time, though the water behind the man does indicate a certain emotionality.

When there’s a lot to do and not much time, emotions can get stormy. Ride the wave and hold on, you might get wet, but you don’t have to get swamped.

This card reminds us to find a flow and take things step by step, even see our tasks as play if we can, quite literally as juggling. It’s easy and fun once you find the rhythm.

What needs organizing might feel overwhelming, but just break it down into smaller pieces. It’s likely a lot more manageable than it looked at first.

From the ideas in the 2 of Pentacles, I’ve put together a Get Organized Spread. It takes a look at what area in your life might need some organization, what’s in the way, and what might help.

Get Organized
1. What area of my life is in particular need of organization?

2. How is my attention being divided from my tasks in this area?

3. How can I find the flow to maximize productivity in this area?

4. What emotions might be getting in the way?

5. Is there any way to make my work feel more like play, while still getting things done?

Moon in Gemini – High Priestess Dressed as the Lovers' Angel

High Priestess dressed as Lovers' Angel

The Moon moves into Gemini today and will stay there until Wednesday.

From a Tarot perspective, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Lovers’ Angel. She floats above the naked couple, blessing their sacred union.

The Moon in Gemini, or High Priestess dressed as the Lovers’ angel, can be an emotionally confusing time, one where internal conflicts arise in order to be reconciled.

But it can also be a time of clarity, honest communication and almost intuitive understanding about yourself and those around you.

Quiet faith teams up with commitment and the Angels approve of the whole thing.

Try to keep your emotions in line with your reason. Going too far either way could disturb a really nice balance.

It’s a day to dissolve the fog and start looking at things with fresh and honest eyes.  With a commitment to clarity, new ideas and a new sense of authority will be close on the horizon.

Take things in hand and energetically start slicing through any fuzziness you’ve not wanted to look past till now.  Are you happy with what you’re seeing?  If yes – go forward with strength.  If not, figure out what you actually want, re-direct yourself towards it and go forward with strength.

In either case, you need to see things for what they really are before you can intelligently decide what your next step might be.   This is no time to fool yourself.   It’s a time to take charge, be realistic and be strong.

Venus in Virgo – Empress in the Hermit's Clothing

Empress as the Hermit - Venus in Virgo

Venus moved into Virgo today and will be there until September 15th.

From a Tarot perspective, this transit is like the Empress is wearing the Hermit’s clothing. She’s out in the snow, wearing the robes of a monk.

The Empress is the fertile mother of the deck. She lives in bounty, with rivers flowing, wheat growing, sun shining, and trees towering.

She revels in the beauty of the world, celebrating with joy and enthusiasm. But she’s very aware of how painful it can be as well.

She’s realistic, but unwilling to give in to sorrow for too long. The physical world is the Empress’ gift and she wants it lived in as fully and passionately as it can be.

The Hermit is also realistic, but not nearly as exuberant. He spends most of his time alone, and much of it in the dark.

He’s comfortable there because he’s more concerned with what’s inside than what’s outside.

Sensual pleasure is hardly his first concern, being more interested in the light of the soul than the worldly beauty exposed by the sun.

The Empress is game for all human adventure, but living as the Hermit is less interactive than she normally likes.

And she’d rather be in the daylight without snow at her feet. But as long as she’s there, she’s determined to make the most of it.

Venus in Virgo, or the Empress in the Hermit’s clothing is a good time to examine the parts of yourself you normally keep under wraps.

Take the opportunity to look carefully at the experiences you’ve been accumulating. Shift through your own inner shadows, and be unafraid to face whatever you find.

Compassion towards yourself and others will help heal both fears and sorrows, while introspection can provide creative insight you may not have thought possible.

And with all this seriousness, don’t forget to enjoy yourself. There’s as much to celebrate in the dark as there is in the light.

Charge forward with strength and vitality.  This is a day of power, passion and growing energy. Your plan is in place and now’s the time to take it to the next step.  Use your internal fire to take you where you’re tying to go.

You don’t need to wait till everything’s perfect to start moving.  In fact, more often than not, things don’t start falling where they should until you start shifting them up and get some excitement going.  Take a chance that you know what you’re doing and act on it.  Believe in yourself and don’t be shy.

Some Tarot From Etsy

August 20th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Not long ago, I wrote about April’s Army Tarot Project, created by fans of the site Regretsy.com. I even donated to the project and can’t wait to get my copy of their deck.

Regretsy is a comedic site that pokes fun at items for sale on Etsy.com, which is an on-line market focusing on handmade goods and crafts.

Regretsy can be really funny. But in fairness to Etsy, though there are some questionable items on sale, there’s also a lot of great stuff made by skilled artists, artisans and crafters.

And if you do a search for Tarot, you’ll find over 4,000 listings, though most are for readings rather than Tarot related items or crafts.

Sakki-Sakki Tarot

But there is a lot of Tarot stuff. Decks for instance, and some really nice self-published ones.

I noticed Beth Seilonen’s shop. Her decks are fabulous. And Monicka Clio Sakki is selling her Sakki-Sakki Tarot, a favourite of mine.

The Tarot Reader - The Bohemian Tarot Bag

Tarot bags of course are a hot item, and I especially liked the Bohemian Cat ones by Baba Studios. They have gorgeous bags of all types, but this Tarot reading cat is my first choice.

There’s also a lot of Tarot jewelry – bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and most interesting, ‘fascinators’, which I’ve discovered are hair clips.

Magical Tarot Fascinators

Here are two Tarot Fascinators I was particularly fascinated by.

The first, because it’s probably the most novel use of extra cards I’ve ever seen.

The second because I’m impressed by the unexpected union of the Tarot and burlesque. The name intrigues as well – Small Disappointments.

Tarot dress

Then there’s this Tarot dress. It’s kind of pretty. Perfect for a Tarot conference, though maybe a little too much card for everyday wear.

The Lovers Cross Stitch Pattern

For the avid needle-working Tarot fan, there’s the Lovers Tarot Card Cross Stitch Pattern PDF. I ordered one of these, and can’t wait to get cross stitching.

And finally, there’s the 50 Tarot Fortune Slips in a blue organza fortune flower. I’ve included this last item mainly because I like the dog.

So there you have it, some highlights from the Tarot section of Etsy. But there’s so much more. Take a look for yourself sometime.

Whether you like the things or not, it’s fun just to see what people are making.

You’ve been working hard and the people that matter are starting to take notice.  Take pride in doing a good job.  You’re becoming a master at your trade.  Mastery requires not only technical skill, but also an appreciation for the art in what you do.

When you care about your job or the tasks you’ve taken on, the work involved is rarely a chore.  Look at your tasks as the creative processes they are.

Whatever you’re doing, you’re creating something, bringing something new into the world.  Consider your role as creator with the seriousness it deserves.

You’re becoming very good at what you’ve been working hard on.  Congratulations, keep it up.

The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons

Yokai by Aotoshi Matsui

Yokai by Aotoshi Matsui

Matthew Meyer, a former Philadelphian living in Echizen, Japan, is putting together a very interesting book. It’s called The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons.

It’s a collection of 100 illustrations and descriptions of Yokai, supernatural beings from Japanese myth and folklore.

They appear as monsters, demons, shapeshifters, and/or just generally unpleasant creatures. From a metaphoric perspective, you might say they represent our shadow sides.

Yokai can be found everywhere in Japan, from beer labels, to store signs, to monastery statuary. Not unlike Tarot symbols, they’re so prevalent we hardly notice them unless we’re looking.

In the book, each illustration will be accompanied by a description of the habits and habitat of each Yokai, done in the style of a bestiary from the middle ages. The book is meant to be an art piece in itself.

Though there’s still almost two weeks left in his campaign, Meyer has already raised more than three times what he was looking for to fund the project.

But you might want to donate anyway. The perks include a copy of the book in either a digital version, paperback, or a limited edition hardback.

It’s sounds like it going be amazing. I wonder if he’s considered making it a deck of cards.
