Moon in Pisces – High Priestess in the Moon's Clothing

August 15th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

High Priestess dressed in the moon's clothingThe Moon moves into Pisces today, and stays there until Wednesday.

Described in Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Moon.

She’s lost her material body and has disappeared into the celestial body that usually rests at her feet.

The Moon in Pisces, or High Priestess dressed as the Moon, is a time of increased perception, ill-defined understanding and what might be described as night vision.

During this time you could find your dreams feel more real than your daylight hours and what’s not said is louder than what is.

Fears might grow like a boogieman under the bed, but if you just take a peek, they’re as likely to be dust bunnies as demons or ghosts.

Be still, aware and fearless. It might be dark outside, but if there was ever a time you can navigate the unknown, this is it. Listen, breathe, flow.

Queen of Cups

Queen of Cups

The energy today is full of nurturance and love.  Let yourself give and receive.  Share your feelings, your dreams and what it is that makes you human.  Let your imagination run away with you (while holding on to reality if you can).

The Queen of Cups loves romance and laughter and beauty in all its forms.  Take a leap into your emotional depths.  Don’t be afraid, you won’t stay under too long.  This Queen understands emotional limits – how to push them and how to pull them back gently without hurting anyone’s feelings.

Today would be a great day to enjoy the company of loved ones. Or call or write them – one way or another, be sure they know you care.

Modifying Your Tarot Deck

August 14th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I’ve been considering it for a while, but I think Leisa ReFalo of The Tarot Connection may have finally convinced me to take a cutter to my favourite deck. Well, maybe not my original favourite, but one of the copies I’ve got hidden in my Tarot cabinet.

If you’re a Tarot lover with a crafting nature, take a look at this video to see Leisa’s border cutting techniques and tools. She uses the Thoth deck as an example, and I think that’s what sold me. It looks beautiful without the frames.

But Leisa doesn’t stop with just border cutting. She also embellishes, showing us how to gild the edges and use just the right amount of iridescence to highlight a particular symbol.

She’s obviously quite expert at the game, slicing with ease and warning us of the crafting pitfalls possible in the modification process. And then of course, there’s the gallery of decks she shows at the end, proving she’s done it more than once.

I’ve got to get myself a cutter, maybe a rounding tool and some gold pens. This could be a disaster, but I’m going to try.

And for a slightly different border cutting technique with different tools, take a look at Donnaleigh de La Rose’s border cutting video. The cards look great.

#1 – The Magician

Where you were thinking of starting something new? This is the time to do it. The energy of The Magician encourages you to start fresh.

Look around – I bet you have all the tools you need for this new enterprise. It’s only up to you to start making things happen.

Name your goal and start listing the steps you need to get there. Especially important is that first step. It can be big or small – just take it! You’re at the very beginning right now, don’t let the long journey ahead dissuade you from going forward.

You can’t go back, so what the heck? Focus on what it is you want to achieve and you can make anything happen.

Beware though, don’t try fooling yourself or others, there’s no need for deception. It will only lead you down the wrong road right from the start. Stay true to your plan and keep yourself focused.

You can do what you need to without resorting to trickery or lies. It’ll work out much better in the long run if you stick to the truth.

Crop Circle Music

Galaxy Formation Crop Circle 1994

The Galaxy Formation

Have you ever wondered what a crop circle sounds like? I never had, not until I came across Paul Vigay’s Circular Harmonics.

Vigay developed the idea after seeing a computer program that was able to turn images into sound. He tried it with a picture of a crop circle and took it from there.

Being a computer whiz himself, as well as a ‘croppie’, he worked on his own software, making it more and more specific to the task.

As with the Aleatory Arcana, a musical Tarot deck, I don’t begin to understand the math behind the music, but I like the results.

Vigay has posted samples of the songs of three crop circle formations – the Mandlebrot, the Galaxy and Oliver’s Castle.

Particularly interesting is the difference between the song of a computer generated image of the Mandlbrot formation, and a photo of the real thing. The computer generated version is significantly more stark.

Human creations, or otherwise, these crop circles are pretty amazing works of land art. Who knew they made such pretty music as well.

Has anyone made a crop circle deck yet? The Galaxy Formation would make a lovely World card.

King of Disks

Physically things will likely be pretty good today.  You’re probably feeling strong and have enough of everything that you really need.  You might even have more than enough and can give some away.

If you do, take advantage of this period to be generous.  You’ve done wonderfully in building your world, see if you can help someone else do the same.

Prosperity and stability are highlighted.   Enjoy the fruits of your labour.  It’s been your steady steps and sometimes less than exciting work that has brought you to where you are.  Congratulations, this is what the work was for.

Divining the Perfect Fragrance

August 12th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I know it’s just an ad for perfume, but like the Camden Players’ amazing Mr. Eks fortune-telling event planner, I like it. Obviously, I’m highly susceptible to marketing schemes involving cards that flip with a click.

In this case, the cards are meant to divine your perfect Donna Karan fragrance. The querent is offered seven sets of five card images to choose from. With each set they’re asked questions like ‘what’s my personal style’ or ‘my fantasy holiday’.

The fragrances it chose for me were right on. I know it’s no more mystical than your standard written personality test, but picking picture cards is just way more fun.

If you’re as much a card junkie as I am, go ahead and divine your own perfect scent per Ms Karan and her perfume oracle. The Tarot Empress would approve.

Moon in Aquarius – High Priestess in the Star's Clothing

High Priestess in Star's Clothing

High Priestess in Star's Clothing

The Moon moves into Aquarius today and stays there until Sunday.

Described in Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Star. In other words, her robes are gone and she’s naked as the bird in the tree behind her.

The Moon in Aquarius, or High Priestess in the Star’s clothing, can sometimes be emotionally stressful. Hope may be in the air, but it’s a cautious hope.

Emotionally you feel like sharing, bubbling over with dreams for the future. But your mind keeps getting in the way, reminding you that dreams can sometimes be nightmares.

Try not to spend what could be a nice time double guessing yourself or listing off all the reasons things could go wrong. They might. But they probably won’t.

Be real, but not a wet blanket. Rather than smothering your dreams, direct them with intelligence.

Queen of Swords from Georgie's Deck

Queen of Swords

Queen of Swords

The truth is an important commodity right now.  Getting through the fog and cutting out that which no longer works is a priority.

You might be feeling a little hardcore, a little less sympathetic to sob stories and other tales of woe than usual.  That’s all right.  Sometimes it’s more important to be clear than to be sweet.

Get the job done and do it with the determination, diligence and discernment that you expect from others.

Keep in mind though that the bigger picture includes compassion.  You need not be cruel or mean to be truthful and serious.

Not everyone is as tough-skinned as you are right now, so be aware of the potential effect your words might have.
