#8 – Justice

Today’s themes are balance and justice.  It might be time to stand up or into your own authority by being strong, sure and most importantly, just.  This isn’t the time to play around and think you’ll get away with not doing your share.  On the other hand, if you do the work required, the Justice energy is happy to reward you.

Have you been playing fair?  It’s not so much about the mundane rules as it is about the bigger universal justice.  And it’s not necessarily about ‘work’ per se, but rather the energies that you’ve been putting out there.  Are you speaking up for what you believe in?  Are you taking responsibility for your own life?  Do you help others as you might expect them to help you?

What you send out is what you’re likely to get back.  This is karma in action and it’s generally quite profound.  On days when the Justice card appears, the karmic force is typically more obvious than usual.  Look around and see if you can find it.

Take time to rebalance yourself, and if possible, find some time to get out into nature.  It usually puts things into perspective pretty fast. Think carefully about your next move.  It’s what you’ve already done that has brought you to where you are now.  What you do next will determine what you’ll be reaping in your future.   Try to make it something good for everyone.

Yeats, Fairies, and the Irish Occult Tradition

WB Yeats (1911)

Take a look at this video of R.F. Foster talking about William Butler Yeats, fairies, and the Irish Occult tradition.

Foster has written a new book about the mystic poet called, Words Alone: Yeats and His Inheritances.

In it he argues that Yeats’ interest in the occult grew naturally from an Irish culture rich in fairy-lore, folktales and the supernatural.

And from Foster’s telling, the fairies in this tradition have little in common with Disney’s Tinkerbell. They’re pretty hardcore, downright scary even.

Did you know fairies can operate fire-arms?

#21 – The Universe

Dance and rejoice!  You deserve to celebrate after a long journey.  A phase in your life is coming to a close – it’s big but not scary.

This is a good day to reflect on what’s been happening in your life over the last long while.  Where were your successes and what would you rather leave behind?  How did all the little stories turn into a whole big narrative?

Review, laugh and maybe even cry, but don’t carry old burdens with you going forward.  Be free and open and willing to be vulnerable.  You’ve done what you can.  It’s time now to simply enjoy your own little slice of the universe.  You’ll have plenty of time to plan your next step tomorrow.

Mercury in Libra – Magician Dressed in Justice's Clothing

September 25th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Mercury in Libra, the Magician Dressed in Justice's Clothes

Magician as Justice

Mercury moves in Libra today and will stay there until October 13th.

Looking at this transit from a Tarot perspective, it’s like the Magician is wearing Justice’s clothing. He’s put down his wands and taken up the scales and sword.

The Magician is quick, focused, and inspirational. He thinks fast, moves fast, and can talk like an angel.

He has clarity of mind, determination of will, and a firm confidence that he can succeed.

His communication skills are unequaled, and at his best he uses them to motivate and clarify. You can’t always trust him, but you can be sure he’ll open your mind.

Justice, on the other hand, is a little more somber. She too is clear thinking, but more concerned with balance than speed.

She’s the goddess of universal law, powerful and fair. She watches, evaluates, and realigns the world when it wobbles.

Justice seeks truth, even when it’s less than palatable. She’d rather know what needs fixing, than think all is well.

The Magician enjoys having the power of the law behind him, though he’s less excited about having to play within the rules. But if he has to he will, and he can do it with grace.

Mercury in Libra, or the Magician in Justice’s clothing, can be a time of intellectual clarity, quick decisions, and balanced inspiration.

Use it to make the choices that have seemed cloudy till now. Arguments on both sides should be clearer, and what’s right for you apparent.

Questions of fairness and balance are highlighted, especially within matters of communication, travel, relationships, and the law.

Be inspired, stable and clear, and the world’s ruling will be in your favour.

Moon in Virgo – High Priestess in the Hermit's Clothing

The High Priestess wearing the Hermit's clothing

High Priestess as Hermit

The Moon moves into Virgo today and will be there until Tuesday.

From a Tarot perspective, you might think of this transit as the High Priestess wearing the Hermit’s clothes. She’s putting on her cowl.

The Moon in Virgo, or High Priestess in the Hermit’s clothing, is a time for practical, quiet reflection. Seeking the advice of an expert, and listening carefully to what they have to say could be worthwhile.

Or maybe someone will be asking you for your advice.

Your home is more important now than the outside world. Start thinking how to make it more practical. You might not be ready to do the work just yet, but this is a great time to plan.

Emotionally, it’s a time of calm. Perfect for listening and reflecting rather than acting out in passion. Take your time. There’s no rush.

Study, organization, contemplation, solitude, emotional self-reflection. Don’t be afraid to be alone right now. There’s lot’s to do on your own.

6 of Cups

This card appeared just last Tuesday, but I guess the love energy is still around …

It’s a wonderful day to say thank you – to your family, friends, and even your enemies.

Nostalgia and happy memories might fill your head and it’s worth remembering all the love there is around you.  Take pleasure in acknowledging it and grateful to extend it further.

Giving and receiving are two sides of the same joy.  Take pleasure in both and don’t be shy to tell people how much they mean to you.   You’ll probably be surprised by how much they love you back.

With close relationships, this is an especially important time to remember the history and strength of your time together. It’s these ties that have helped you through your most serious moments – both good and bad.

Don’t take them lightly, close friends really are special, and not as common as you might think.

Chocolate: Pathway to the Gods

Chocolate: Pathway to the Gods by Meredith Dreiss and Sharon Edgar Greenhill

Chocolate: Pathway to the Gods

If you’ve got a passion for chocolate and are looking for a spiritual reason to indulge, this may be the book and DVD for you.

Chocolate: Pathway to the Gods by Meredith Dreiss and Sharon Edgar Greenhill uncovers the sacred in a cup of cocoa.

Published in 2008 as the first in a series on sacred foods of the Americas, the book describes the role of chocolate in Mesoamerican religion, politics, economics, and healing through the last 3000 years.

Coveted by gods and humans alike, chocolate has played an integral part in fertility, harvest, marriage, death and rebirth rituals.

And not just by the ancients. Women in modern day Oaxaca still practice the secret methods of cocoa processing.

Certainly contemporary societies’ demand for chocolate in all forms is insatiable. And we too use it to celebrate love at Valentines, and rebirth at Easter.

Delicious, magical, and at least in its dark form, good for our health – chocolate has it all!

So try seeing your next chocolate craving as a message from the divine. Sometimes indulgence is what the gods are asking of us.

3 of Cups

We just got this card Wednesday, but I’m willing to give it another go ….

Celebrate with enthusiasm!  Today is for fun and sharing. Friends are at the forefront, especially the ladies in your life.

Good times, good friends, good drink – it could be a pretty excellent day.  Don’t be afraid to be happy and remember to let people know how much you like them.

Take delight in music, poetry, painting – this is a time of inspiration and creativity.  Social interaction with others will be invigorating and fruitful.

Let yourself get carried away by laughter and joy.  Seek out the beautiful within yourself and those around you.  You won’t be disappointed if you do.

Sun in Libra – The Sun Dressed in Justice's Clothing

September 23rd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Sun in Libra, Sun in Justice's Clothing

Sun as Justice

The Sun moves into Libra today and will stay there until October 23.

Through the eyes of the Tarot, this transit is like the Sun Child is dressed in Justice’s clothing.

The Sun is joy, light and celebration. He’s a child at play, open and delighting in everything he sees.

Clarity is a big part of the joy. After an oppressive darkness, illumination is finally at hand, and the world doesn’t seem as scary as it did last night.

The Sun exposes all it passes over, uncovering secrets and hidden faces. And though there’s always a risk of burning, being kissed by his light is heaven itself.

Justice appreciates the Sun’s ability to expose, but she isn’t as keen on his persistent call to celebrate. Issues of fairness first need to be addressed.

Balance, alignment, and constant adjustments are her focus. If the scale leans too far one way, she’ll even things up.

She wants order, and has the authority to enforce it. But her laws are cosmic; so don’t expect that just following the rules is enough to win her game.

The Sun in Libra, or the Sun Child dressed as Justice, is a period of enthusiastic equilibrium, a time to energize by rebalancing.

Karma is exposed, and cause and effect are more obvious than usual. It’s a great time to figure out what effects you’d like to cause going forward.

There’s power in restraint, and in letting go. The creative process needs both, not too much, not too little.

The trick, of course, is getting the balance just right. Use this month to figure out yours, and shine while you’re doing it.
