Sun in Scorpio – Sun in Death's Clothing

Sun in Scorpio, Sun Dressed in Death's Clothing

Sun Dressed As Death

The Sun moves into Scorpio today and will be there until November 22nd.

If you look at this transit from a Tarot perspective, it would be like the Sun is dressed in Death’s clothing. He’s still on his horse, but he’s much more covered up than usual.

The Sun child is bright, cheerful, and on the hunt for fun. Never dull and always moving, he keeps the energy high and alive.

The Sun can be blinding at times, but inspiring as well, a true life force.

He’s open and innocent and hides nothing. There’s no charades with him, what you see is what you get.

Death is quite different, moving around in the dusk, all covered in black metal. He’s interested in what’s hidden, what might be growing in the depths.

Transformation happens in the muck, or the deepest part of the ocean, or in the times in our lives when things seem the darkest.

Death’s energy clears through stagnation, and begins the process of change and renewal.

This might not be where we’d expect to find the Sun, but he likes to go everywhere, and is more than happy to keep the light on as night falls.

The Sun in Scorpio, or the Sun dressed in Death’s clothing, is a period that highlights change, quite literally lighting it up.

It’s a great time to bring clarity to issues usually too deep or dark to properly understand.

What you see might not be pretty, but it could be a powerful motivator.

Dig on into the muck and don’t be afraid to get dirty. Play around even, the dark can be as fun as the light.

#3 – The Empress

Creation and the celebration of the senses are highlighted today.  Art, food, music – anything that inspires our physical and emotional selves will inspire you and be well worth the time.

Nurture yourself and others.  It’ll probably be hard not to.  Nurturance isn’t just a luxury.  You need to maintain and even increase your strength in order to create what you’ve been working on. Eat delicious, healthy foods, surround yourself with beauty, take warm, aromatic baths . . . it’s all part of the Empress’ path to creation.

If you’ve been dealing with issues surrounding motherhood, women, or femininity in general, this would be a great day to take a closer look.  There’s wonderful energy now to help you resolve issues you might have thought irresolvable.

Tarot Yes or No

The Thoth Tarot with four crystals

A Tarot reading can be a wonderful tool for deep psychological insight, finding direction, or hashing out the details of a particular situation you’re confronted with.

And most often, that’s what people are looking for when they come for a reading.

Having said that, it’s also true that a lot of people just want a simple answer – yes or no.

Typically, I discourage the yes/no type question, partly because it seems to take away from the idea of individual choice. It’s like the querant expects fate to decide, while they wait around for the decision to be made.

But I also don’t like such questions because the Tarot is capable of so much more with its rich visual imagery and archetypal triggers. Each card has a myriad of possibilities in it. To confine it to yes or no seems to miss the point.

Instead of definitives, the cards are perhaps better for questions like how did I get here, what’s it like, and where do I want to go next.

If there’s a choice to be made, I’d much rather draw a few cards representing the energies around particular options than to force the deck to declare if something’s going to happen or not.

But even so, sometimes a yes or no is still all you want, and the Tarot is happy to oblige.

A quick web search will bring up all sorts of spreads to try, but I’ve posted a couple of videos below demonstrating two techniques I like. The first involves reversals, while the second seeks out the Aces.

Both are straightforward, yet allow for additional exploration of the issue once yes or no has been answered.

GS Warren put together the first video. The second is a demonstration by Jennifer Jordan of The Broom Closet.

Try them out and see how they work for you.

Moon in Virgo – High Priestess in the Hermit's Clothing

The High Priestess wearing the Hermit's clothing

High Priestess as Hermit

The Moon moves into Virgo today and will be there until Monday.

From a Tarot perspective, you might think of this transit as the High Priestess wearing the Hermit’s clothes. She’s putting on her cowl.

The Moon in Virgo, or High Priestess in the Hermit’s clothing, is a time for practical, quiet reflection. Seeking the advice of an expert, and listening carefully to what they have to say could be worthwhile.

Or maybe someone will be asking you for your advice.

Your home is more important now than the outside world. Start thinking how to make it more practical. You might not be ready to do the work just yet, but this is a great time to plan.

Emotionally, it’s a time of calm. Perfect for listening and reflecting rather than acting out in passion. Take your time. There’s no rush.

Study, organization, contemplation, solitude, emotional self-reflection. Don’t be afraid to be alone right now. There’s lot’s to do on your own.

#0 – The Fool

We just had this card last Monday, but I guess the Fool really wants to tell us something …

This is a great day to take the leap and do something different.  It might seem crazy and you have no idea how it’s going to turn out, or maybe even how you got on this path in the first place, but here you are.  It’s time to make your move and do so without fear.

The Fool card isn’t telling you to be an idiot, but rather to stop double thinking yourself all the time and worrying that every single thing is in order before you can make a move.

Life isn’t really that logical.  There’s no way to prepare for all eventualities, no matter how smart you are.  Do what you can and let the universe take care of the bigger story.

Psychic Tarot: Using Your Natural Psychic Abilities to Read the Cards

There are a lot of different ways to read Tarot cards. All of them involve using the intuitive faculties, but some are more obviously ‘psychic’ than others.

Nancy Antenucci and Melanie Howard have written a wonderful book focusing on this aspect of Tarot. Rather than being concerned with traditional meanings of the cards, they examine how to read them using your psychic senses.

Appropriately enough, the book is called Psychic Tarot: How to Use Your Natural Psychic Abilities to Read the Cards.

Even if you don’t think you’re psychic, Antenucci and Howard will help get you on the road to believing.

There are exercises galore, spread interpretations, and what they call the Six Principles to Divination, including grounding, intent, form, synchronicity, closure, and integration.

Whether you’re interested in reading just for yourself, or for others, the book helps build confidence in your own inner voice.

I did a lot of the exercises, and really enjoyed myself. I might even be more psychic than I thought.

And I guess that’s the point, we all are. This book helps you see it for yourself.

Get down to work. Nothing exciting going on, except maybe the chance to get more done than you thought you would.

Follow the template and don’t worry about being particularly innovative today. It’s probably more important to just get it done.

To motivate yourself try remembering that what you’re working on now is setting you up for your future. Put in the effort and it’ll ultimately pay off.

Psychic Experiments at Laurentian University

spike waves on an EEG

EEG Spike Waves

Some serious psychic experimentation is being done in my own backyard.

Well, not literally in my back yard, but not too far away at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.

Mandy Scott, an MA student in psychology, is doing research on what’s actually going on during a psychic experience. Specifically, what’s going on in our brains.

Scott will be performing a series of experiments involving Remote Viewing, where subjects are asked to describe photos without actually looking at them.

Six times over the course of six weeks, each person will be asked to hold a sealed envelope with a picture in it. While they record what they think the image in the envelope is, EEG monitors will record their brainwaves.

Subjects will be split into three groups, the first being a control with no psychic experience whatsoever.

The second group will also be ‘non-psychics’, but will undergo some training in psychic techniques before they start the experiments.

The final group will be made up of people with prior experience in psychic readings.

Scott is already convinced that something’s going on, she just wants to pinpoint what that is and where it’s happening in our brains.

She’s also interested in whether the ‘psychic’ group proves to be any better at seeing the hidden images than the other two groups.

If you want to help her out, she’s still looking for people to be involved in the research.

She can be contacted through the university at 705-675-1151.

I look forward to seeing her results.

Moon in Leo – High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

October 20th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

The High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

High Priestess as Strength

The Moon moves into Leo today and stays there until Saturday.

Translated into Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is wearing Strength’s clothing. She’s thrown off her heavy cape and is spending some time outside with her lion.

The Moon in Leo, or High Priestess in Strength’s clothing is potentially a time of emotional power. Something beautiful that’s usually under wraps can finally be revealed.

The silence is broken. Quiet wisdom and passion can be united. During this time, it might be difficult to keep your ideas to yourself. But why should you?

Try finding an outlet for plans you’ve been sitting on? This is an opportunity to shine if you’re not over-burdened by self-consciousness.

It might feel a little uncomfortable at first, but letting your wilder side out right now could be positive. The sun isn’t always shining. Take advantage of it when it does.

Today you might find yourself simply working and waiting. You’ve been trying hard but it probably feels like there’s little to show for it.  Keep your chin up!  You are actively creating change in your life, but it takes time.

Try not to get down on yourself while the process continues.  Commitment means sticking through the dull, tough times to reach your goal.  You’re well on your way and it would be a shame not to keep going.  In fact, the hardest part now is not to give up for fear of failure.

There’s still work ahead, but you’re going in the right direction.  Keep plugging away and you will succeed.
