This is not meant to be a predictive or mediumistic reading, but just a one-card look at Jobs’ legacy.
The card I pulled was #16, The Tower. It’s one of the most shocking cards in the deck, typically describing just that, a shocking event, something unexpected, and often dramatic.
When the Tower’s around, you can’t look at the world the way you used to.
And doesn’t that describe the legacy of Steve Jobs?
Because we knew of his illness, it wasn’t so surprising that he passed, but his passing still sent shock-waves through the world of technology and way beyond.
As the lightening topples the Tower’s crown, the king was struck down.
But his time with us was at least as shocking. It was with Tower-like energy that Jobs hit the scene with the first Macintosh. You might say he electrified the computer industry.
Looking at the windows of the Tower in the card’s image, don’t they kind of remind you the front of this first computer?
The Mac was completely different from all the others. It changed everything, making it possible for people who knew nothing about computers to jump in and discover a brand new world.
They were fun, powerful, and most important, easy to use for average people. They still are. I’m working on one right now, and have been since 1997.
And then of course there’s the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. I can hardly imagine organizing my pictures without iPhoto. And iTunes has revolutionized music.
Even Apple’s packaging, ad campaigns, and stores changed how technology is viewed by the general population. It became both accessible and highly desirable.
As everyone does, Jobs faced his own personal Tower situations. He was publicly fired from the company he founded, and was forced to start fresh.
In true Tower style, he built up Pixar, another ground-breaking company, before returning to Apple to shake things up there some more.
When teaching people about the Tower card, it can sometimes be challenging to come up with positive examples of this energy. I think Steve Jobs is one of those examples.
He was a Tower we’ll all miss. He made us think different, and I thank him for it.
The Moon moves into Aries today and will stay there until Thursday.
Translating this transit into Tarot Cards, it would be like the High Priestess is wearing the Emperor’s clothing. She’s in scarlet and armor and is ready for battle.
The Moon in Aries, or High Priestess in the clothing of the Emperor, is a time of intensified emotions. You might feel an increased desire to shape your own world.
Rather than sitting back in stillness, this transit encourages the loosening of emotional restrictions and the conscious expression of enthusiasm and/or passion.
It might be uncomfortable at first, but allow yourself to speak out loud. Take steps forward to let people know what you know and what you love.
Try to remain objective and open-minded while acting with determination and direction. It might sound impossible, but you can do both if you try.
You’ll probably be feeling quite loving today. Emotions are open and flowing and you’re getting along with everyone.
People will likely find you even more attractive than usual, and you them. But don’t confuse that with getting serious.
Emotions may have been high lately, or at least all over the place. You might find yourself thinking a lot about what in life (and love) truly makes you happy.
It’s a good time to think about it. But don’t worry, there’s no need to make any firm commitments right now. Just look around you and experience what life has to offer.
You’re in the process of building a new emotional maturity. Enjoy and play friendly.
Venus moves into Scorpio today and will be there until November 2nd.
From a Tarot perspective this transit is like the Empress is wearing Death’s clothing. She’s on a horse and heavily armoured.
The Empress is the grand mother of the deck. She’s protective, nurturing, and deeply compassionate.
She’s creative in her approach to everything, and can be depended upon to find a solution to most of life’s troubles.
Birth is what interests her, it’s the ultimate creation. There’s nothing better than being alive and living fully in all the senses.
Death, of course, has a different perspective. It’s through decay and devolution that creativity is found, like the transformation of the phoenix.
Endings are highlighted, not out of morbidity but for perspective on life. A recognition that things don’t last forever makes us love them even more.
Everything’s equal in Death’s way of seeing things, the holy and the thief will both one day get a visit.
Though the Empress would rather have stayed home in her garden, if people need nurturing during times of change, she’ll be there with armour on.
Venus in Scorpio, or the Empress in Death’s clothing is a time to see the beauty in change. It’s an opportunity to let yourself celebrate what’s passing and nurture what’s about to grow.
Now’s a good time to take a gentle look at the transformations going on in your life and the lives of those around you.
Some changes might touch off sadness, but if you look closer you’ll likely find a golden seed about to emerge. And it’s probably going to make you smile.
There’s something seductive in this combination of deep emotion, beauty and love. It’s mysterious, creative, and meaningful. Take advantage of it while it’s here.
The flame has been ignited and there’s a new feeling floating around. This is a day to let inspiration lead the way.
Throw out your old excuses and start something you really care about. Passion and fire are what motivates the soul and it’s time to listen to yours.
You might not yet know what’s different but you know your old way of doing things is no longer possible. A new spirit has been planted and you can probably feel the excitement beginning to build.
Whatever it is that moves you with enthusiasm should be your starting point. Being true to your spirit isn’t being selfish. It’s what makes you fully human.
Artist Roxi Sim Hermsen will be there, presenting her first show since 1999. And it’s a Tarot show called The Fool’s Journey.
After going on a very difficult journey herself through the last decade, contracting Lyme disease, and tragically losing both her son and her mother, it was art that helped her heal.
Inspired by the beauty of Granada, where she and her family moved for a while, she started painting, creating dozens of works featuring everything from goddesses to dolls from her grandmother’s collection.
Though she’d never really seen a Tarot deck, someone who saw her paintings suggested she make one. And letting the journey of discovery lead her, she did.
Her deck is called The Pearls of Wisdom, and is named for her mother Margaret. The Greek root of the name Margaret means pearl.
There are a lot of pearls in the images. And as an ode to her son Shea, lots of rainbows and crystals.
It’s a beautiful deck, lush, rich, and full of happiness. Despite the sadnesses she’s faced, Hermsen has clearly tapped into a deep source of joy.
All 78 original paintings will be on display this weekend, as well as two new ones. Get down to see them if you can.
The Moon moves into Pisces today, and stays there until Monday.
Described in Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Moon.
She’s lost her material body and has disappeared into the celestial body that usually rests at her feet.
The Moon in Pisces, or High Priestess dressed as the Moon, is a time of increased perception, ill-defined understanding and what might be described as night vision.
During this time you could find your dreams feel more real than your daylight hours and what’s not said is louder than what is.
Fears might grow like a boogieman under the bed, but if you just take a peek, they’re as likely to be dust bunnies as demons or ghosts.
Be still, aware and fearless. It might be dark outside, but if there was ever a time you can navigate the unknown, this is it. Listen, breathe, flow.
Creative vision, a fiery temperament, inspirational thinking – it could be an exciting day. You have the capacity to focus your passionate energy into something constructive.
If it’s been difficult to get going with an enterprise that really matters to your soul, this is a great day to clear through the cobwebs. Take your fire and run with it.
But don’t forget to enjoy your strength wisely. No one likes a tyrant. Get to work on your goal, but don’t assume that everyone else is going to follow your lead. They might be feeling a lot like you are today and are probably looking for some followers themselves.
What a wonderful day. You feel open and loving and willing to let the world know – at least if they ask. You might not feel like running out and embracing everyone you see, but there’s a sense of contentment and well-being that’s impossible to ignore.
This is an excellent time to enjoy and share. Be generous with your feelings. There’s really nothing to fear in letting people know you care.
Give as you can and laugh out loud as much as possible, even when you’re alone. It may have been some time since you’ve felt this good. Enjoy. You deserve it.
