#21 The World from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

The World

Tonight on Beyond Worlds we have a very special show. It’s a Tarot panel, and our topic is Boundaries for Readers.

We’ll be discussing boundaries of all types, the ones we encounter within our readings, and the ones we might have with friends, family, and clients when they ask for readings.

The discussion will include everything from taboo topics to issues surrounding payment, free readings, and psychic addiction.

Join Donnaleigh de LaRose, Diane Wilkes, Theresa Reed, James Wells, Sharon Brown, Marcy Currier, and me live in the chatroom. Or call in at (646) 200-0765.

It’s going to be a really interesting discussion.

#18 – The Moon

Things might seem a little dark today but don’t despair.  It’s always night before it’s day.  The moon card represents this darkness before dawn.

You might be challenged to face your fears, or at least name them so you can see whether they’re really as powerful as all that.  Things often seem a lot scarier in the dark than they do the next day.

Try taking some time today to really explore those things that you usually shy away from.  Psychic energy is especially strong and it will be well worth your while to find some silence and listen carefully to your inner voice.

Secrets and mystery, hazy half-truths – they’re all part of the moon’s power.  How you feel might prove to be more informative than what you see.   Pay attention to the shadows, it’ll be light soon.

Camel Calls Giants to Win Super Bowl

February 4th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Okay, I know it’s kind of idiotic but I just love these animal predictions. This time the question is ‘Who’s going to win the Super Bowl tomorrow?’ And we’ll be asking a camel.

Princess, a camel from New Jersey’s Popcorn Park Zoo, has been doing sports predictions with her human friend, and manager of the zoo, John Bergmann for years.

Bergmann writes the names of the competing teams on his hands then holds a graham cracker in each. Princess chooses a cracker and the team written on that hand is declared the likely winner.

Princess’ record is good. She’s picked five of the last six Super Bowl champions, and back in 2008, she called 17 of 22 regular season games.

For tomorrow she’s picked the New York Giants over the New England Patriots. We’ll soon see if she’s right.

One thing for sure, Princess is lovely.

The High Priestess dressed as the Chariot

High Priestess in Chariot's Clothing

The Moon moves into Cancer today, and stays there until Monday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, you might describe it as the High Priestess dressed in the clothing of the Charioteer. She’s left the safety of her pillars and veil, and has hit the road.

The Moon in Cancer, or the High Priestess dressed as the Charioteer, can be a powerful time of comfortable change and emotional resilience.

Knowledge gathered in silence has coalesced and it’s time to share without fear of being hurt.

Emotional loyalty, intuitive direction and strength of character can give you the resolve to go forward. Even into the unknown.

Try not to coddle yourself. You can only win if you have the courage to play to the end.

New energy and general enthusiasm are your gifts for today.  It’s time to start moving towards your dreams.

It might be just the beginning, but you have to start somewhere and you have the energy and passion to do it right now.  Why wait?

Look into your heart and see what makes it stand up and sing.  That’s the sign that you’re on the right track.

Be fearless and fun and see where it takes you.

Neptune in Pisces – The Hanged Man Dressed as the Moon

The Hanged Man in the Moon's Clothing

Hanged Man dressed as the Moon

Neptune moves into Pisces tonight and stays there until 2026. That’s right 2026, this is a slow moving planet.

Looking at this transit from a tarot perspective, it’s like the Hanged Man is dressed as the Moon. He’s dangling in the dark.

The Hanged Man is about patience, sacrifice and new perspectives. Nothing needs to be rushed and there’s nowhere to go.

He wants you to see things differently than you’re used to. And to do so you have to take some time out from the bustling turmoil.

The Hanged Man chooses to be where he is. Turning things upside down might be uncomfortable at times, but without some inversion, there’s ultimately no balance.

The Moon is darkness, mystery and the secrets of the night. It’s daytime in reverse, a time when shadows reign.

Instincts become more valuable than rules, and dreams more real than consciousness.

The Moon reflects the light, like a mirror or the ocean. It distorts and reconfigures what’s familiar. Sometimes in ways that make us afraid.

The Hanged Man doesn’t mind being here. He’s intrigued by the shadows, amused by how they transform what he sees.

Neptune in Pisces, or the Hanged Man in the Moon’s clothing, is a good time for spiritual exploration. It’s easier to be open when all boundaries have melted.

During this period it’s useful to pay attention to recurring thoughts, symbols and dreams. If an idea keeps presenting itself, take a closer look.

And don’t be afraid to turn your ideas around, facing them from a different angle. Emotional and intellectual flexibility can be rewarding.

Be still, watch and listen. We’ve got a long time with this one. With patience, enlightenment can shine bright in the dark.

#1 – The Magician

Were you thinking of starting something new? This is the time to do it. The energy of The Magician encourages you to start fresh.

Look around – I bet you have all the tools you need for this new enterprise. It’s only up to you to start making things happen.

Name your goal and start listing the steps you need to get there. Especially important is that first step. It can be big or small – just take it! You’re at the very beginning right now, don’t let the long journey ahead dissuade you from going forward.

You can’t go back, so what the heck? Focus on what it is you want to achieve and you can make anything happen.

Beware though, don’t try fooling yourself or others, there’s no need for deception. It will only lead you down the wrong road right from the start. Stay true to your plan and keep yourself focused.

You can do what you need to without resorting to trickery or lies. It’ll work out much better in the long run if you stick to the truth.

Cailleach, groundhogs, and a call for clouds

Wiarton Willie statue in Wiarton, Ontario

Wiarton Willie

It’s Groundhog Day, the day when North Americans look to large rodents for weather prognostication.

If while the humans are watching, the groundhog sees his shadow, six more weeks of winter are to be expected. If there’s no shadow however, we can hope for an early spring.

Today’s groundhogs seem to have taken on a role once played by the divine Gaelic hag Cailleach, who was also celebrated on the 1st or 2nd of February, otherwise known as Imbolc.

According to legend, this is the time when Cailleach is scheduled to gather firewood for the rest of the winter.

If it’s going to be a long one (and that’s up to her), she makes the day bright and clear enough so that she has no problem gathering plenty of wood.

If, on the other hand, spring is around the corner, she doesn’t bother going outside. She lets the weather be bad and enjoys the day in bed.

Needless to say, Cailleach watchers paid close attention to the weather on Imbolc, much as our groundhog diviners do today.

And I’ll be watching too. As much as I like the sun out bright, if there’s anything to these Cailleach and groundhog traditions, I’m hoping for some clouds.

#14 – Temperance

This is a great day to even things out. Balance and temperance are the energies surrounding you now. Can you bring your physical world into harmony with your emotional state?

Temperance is about that perfect mix, neither too much nor too little. It’s about becoming conscious of what you want to be both inside and out, and courageous enough to try.

You are responsible for any healing you might need. The first step is to acknowledge what might be out of balance and then start readjusting.

Sometimes it’s about finding a new way to meld your internal opposites; sometimes it’s about casting out what no longer works. In all cases though, it’s about being true to your self and connecting to the grander universe.

Try asking an angel for some help today. You might be surprised at the result.

A Knife-Throwing Queen

Queen of Swords from the Rider Waite Smith tarot

Queen of Swords

I thought of the Queen of Swords when I watched this old video of a knife thrower and her two little girls.

In the Tarot, this Queen is pretty hard-core. She’s known to cut to the bare bones of an issue, and her nurturing nature is much more intellectual than it is emotional.

Not that she’s a bad mom, she’s just a little sharper than others, both mentally, and in this case, physically.

Take a look, and don’t be scared. At least this time round, the Queen never misses her mark.
