6 of Wands

Victory is finally at hand. You’ve won the game and everyone’s cheering. It wasn’t always easy so the win is that much sweeter.

Have a good time and enjoy what you’ve worked so hard to master.

Your good fortune probably has a lot to do with staying true to your heart. Keep it up.

This isn’t an unexpected gift from the skies, it’s acknowledgement for doing something special. Good work.

Fire, Water, and Rainbows

April 10th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Symbolically, rainbows often represent a bridge between heaven and earth. They’re not unlike angels, who also act as mediums between the dimensions.

In both the RWS and Thoth decks rainbows are a featured symbol in card #14, though in the RWS version they’re more hidden than in Thoth.

#14 Temperance from the Smith Waite Tarot

In the RWS deck, the Temperance card pictures an Angel pouring water between cups at a magical angle. On the angel’s chest is the symbol for fire.

The bridge between dimensions is of course reflected in the angel herself, but there are also two irises in the picture.

The word rainbow comes from the Greek word iris, which was the name of the goddess credited with the creation of rainbows. She was also known as a messenger of the gods.

#14 Art from the Thoth Tarot

In the Thoth deck, the Art card shows a two-headed, multi-breasted Artemis mixing fire and water over a cauldron. Her gown’s lapels are rainbows that seem to grow from the mist of her concoction.

Both cards suggest a balance between the opposing energies of fire and water. Such a mix can create something as extraordinary as a rainbow, or a bridge to another world.

The video below shows a very unlikely example of this same idea.

In it a woman named Kristi mixes the firepower of her shotgun with the water of a running stream. And just like Iris and Artemis, she manages to make herself a rainbow.

It’s time to get down to the details.  A new project is in the works and you’ve got the task of making it happen – or at least starting the process off.

Keep the reason you’re doing it in mind – that’s the fire that drives the whole enterprise.

If the less than exciting details are getting you down, remember that it’s the details that build the foundation to any project.

Don’t be afraid to sludge and trudge on through.  It’ll be worth it in the end.

Fair Fees for Psychic and Tattoo Businesses in San Clemente

April 9th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Opening a psychic shop or tattoo parlour just got a little less expensive in San Clemente, California.

Until last week, if you wanted to open either type of business in San Clemente, you would be charged a daily license tax of $20. That’s just over $7,000 a year.

In comparison, medical offices pay on average $400 a year, while most auto-mechanic shops pay about $600.

Thanks to tattoo artist Susie Floyd who challenged the city, Council voted 5-0 last week to do away with the unfair fee schedule and to treat psychic and tattoo businesses the same as others in the area.

The final vote goes to Council April 17th.

Moon in Sagittarius – High Priestess in Temperance's Clothing

The High Priestess dressed in Temperance's Clothing

High Priestess as Temperance

The Moon moves into Sagittarius today and will be there until Wednesday.

Looking at it through the eyes of the Tarot, you can describe this transit as being like the High Priestess wearing Temperance’s clothing. She’s dressed like an angel.

The Moon in Sagittarius, or High Priestess in Temperance’s clothing, indicates a time when intellect, practicality, emotions and passion can work together in relative ease.

What’s normally only an idea might find its way to becoming real. Even-tempered inspiration and emotional playfulness can create what look like miracles.

Take this time to bring your emotions in line with your passions. And play with your most serious ideas. It’s in combining the unexpected that you’ll likely find gold.

4 of Cups

Today it might seem like you’ve got it all, and yet there’s still something missing.  Emotionally, you’ve got plenty of support.  People around you love you and you love them back.  Despite it all though, there’s a nagging feeling that it’s just not enough.

Perhaps you’re fantasizing about a new love, a new friend, or at a new spark to make what you’ve already got even more special.

Examine these feelings carefully and determine what it is that leaves you slightly unsatisfied.  Are you being reasonable – or a bit of a brat.  Pay attention to what you’ve got and don’t forget to give thanks.

At the same time – if there is something missing, it’s missing and there’s no getting around it.  Meditate on what it is that leaves you wanting more and figure out whether or not it’s something you should pursue.

Remember though, what you wish for might just appear out of thin air – make sure you really want it?

Wake Up To Spring

April 8th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Yellow Crocus

It’s Easter today, and I’ve been enjoying some chocolate. I’ve also been enjoying the weather and thinking about spring.

With each new season there’s a sense of something starting, and with spring, that feeling is especially strong.

Everything has been asleep for months and it’s finally waking up and starting fresh. It’s green, and busy, and full of hope. I just love it.

So to capture the spirit, and to get some direction on how to make the most of the season, I put together a quick Tarot spread.

Try it out …

Wake Up To Spring

1. What talent of mine has been asleep for the last few months?

2. How best to wake it up and make it new?

3. What needs to be planted?

4. What needs to be weeded out?

5. How can I make this spring especially good?

The reckoning’s done and it’s finally time to dole out the rewards.  Have you done your fair share?  Are you ready to accept what’s due?

Success is coming to those who have done what they can to manifest their goals.  It may seem like manna from heaven but look again – it’s more likely compensation for a job well done.

And don’t forget to thank those who have been helping you. We’re never alone in either our successes or our failures.

Whips, Harmonicas, and the 2 of Wands

2 of Wands from the Smith Waite Tarot

2 of Wands

It’s pretty certain Adam Winrich wasn’t thinking about the 2 of Wands when he made this Whips and Harmonica video. But that’s what I thought about when I watched it.

The two poles in the background make an obvious connection to the Smith Waite card. But instead of a globe in his hand, Winrich cracks some whips as a sign of his power.

Two of Wands from the Thoth Tarot

They reminded me of the dorjes on the Thoth 2 of Wands, as well as that card’s key word of ‘dominion’.

Wands are about the spirit, and this two can be about finding dominion within yourself through balancing your spirit and your physical reality.

With his unlikely pairing of harmonica and whip snapping, Winrich seems to have found such a balance.

Moon in Scorpio – High Priestess in Death's Clothing

April 7th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

The High Priestess in Death's Clothes

The moon moves into Scorpio today and stays there until Monday.

If you translate this transit into the Tarot, you could say that the High Priestess is dressed as Death. She’s in the midst of a great transformation.

The Moon in Scorpio, or High Priestess in Death’s clothing, suggests a time when feelings run deep. The ability to end relationships that don’t work, or release stagnant emotions is accentuated.

If there’s a situation in your life that’s nearing its completion, especially if it’s emotional or relationship-oriented, this might be a good time to let it go. At least explore it with emotional clarity.

This isn’t a time to be afraid, but rather a time to face your fears with equanimity and intelligence.

You’ve got what it takes. Don’t back down from the scary stuff.
