Two Years of Blogging with The Tarot Room

October 20th, 2012 § 4 comments § permalink

Today marks the 2nd anniversary of The Tarot Room blog! Hip Hip Hooray!!

Knight of Cups from the Smith Waite Tarot

I asked the cards what they thought I should do to celebrate the event, and they offered me up the Knight of Cups.

He’s a sweet Knight on a white horse, intuitive, kind, and active in extending his appreciation and good will to all.

It made me think that I should be actively extending my appreciation, love and good will to all my blog readers – so that’s what I’ll do.

In appreciation of all The Tarot Room readers, from now until November 19th, anyone who books an hour-long reading and mentions this post will get 20% off.

Thank You! And Cheers!! You know it’s champagne in the Knight of Cups cup, and he and I are raising our glasses to you!

*this offer is good for gift certificates too

Moon in Capricorn – High Priestess in the Devil's Clothing

The High Priestess dressed as the Devil

High Priestess as the Devil

The Moon moves into Capricorn today and will stay there until Monday.

If you were to describe this transit using the Tarot, you might say that the High Priestess is wearing the Devil’s clothing. The virginal goddess has gotten downright beastly.

The Moon in Capricorn, or High Priestess in the Devil’s clothing, is a period of potential internal conflict. The physical world might seem to draw you away from what you typically believe to be right.

You might feel driven or compelled by behaviours and attitudes that go against the grain of your morality. It could be liberating or disturbing, depending on your secrets.

Whatever’s going on though, don’t be too hard on yourself. Get obsessions out of your system, and learn what you can about yourself while you do so.

You should be ready to move on soon. There’s nothing wrong with a little focused physicality. Just don’t get stuck.

#5 – The Hierophant

Spiritual questions and tradition are highlighted during this period.  It’s probably important to you now to look carefully at the spiritual structures in your life.  Why do you believe what you do?  Who are your spiritual authorities and what gives them their legitimacy?  Who decides issues of morality for you, your family and/or your community?

Many of these questions are answered with cultural traditions. Today, you’ll probably be examining whether or not the answers you’re accustomed to are still satisfactory.  They might be or they might not be.  Don’t be afraid to seek out your truth simply because it rubs against your comfort zone.  Sometimes growth hurts a bit.

You might be asked to judge someone else’s dispute, or find the need to go to an authority for answers yourself.  Keep your mind open, but your skepticism on.  Ultimately, you’re the only one who can decide whether something makes sense for your life or not.

Light On Tarot by Theresa Reed

October 19th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

We might know Theresa Reed as The Tarot Lady, which she most certainly is, but she’s also a lady of yoga, and her new ebook Light On Tarot proves she’s a good one.

Reed has combined the wisdom of both Tarot and yoga to create a fantastic guide to learning the Tarot while working out your body and soul.

She’s associated each of Tarot’s Major Arcana cards with a particular yogic routine, giving readers the opportunity to experience the cards physically, mentally, and of course spiritually.

Each chapter includes card descriptions, journaling suggestions, affirmations, and exercises that stretch out not just your limbs, but your perceptions of the world as well.

It’s a great book for Tarot and yoga enthusiasts alike – practical, intelligent, and a lot of fun to work through.

Visit The Tarot Lady website to learn more. And breath …

Knight of Pentacles

Prince of Disks

Prince of Disks

We just had this knight on Tuesday, but he’s back …

It’s a good time to get to work.  Nothing exciting, just keep moving forward step by step.  It’ll go a lot faster now that you’re seriously on your way.

Enjoy this building process.  You’re making steady progress.  If you keep moving like this, you’ll reach your goals soon.

And if you’re feeling a little dull because all you do is work, work and plan for more work, that’s okay.  That’s what the energy is right now and you might as well go with it.

Creating stability is worth the effort.  There’ll be plenty of time for fun soon enough.

Zoltar

I would just love to have one of these Zoltar Fortune-Telling machines. They’re a little pricey so it’s unlikely I’ll be getting one any time soon, but wouldn’t it be fun?

They come in all sorts of different characters – cats, yaks, pirates, swamis, prospectors, former presidents … the list goes on. They’ve even got an Amelia Earhart.

Each oracle can dispense 16 different spoken messages and 23 printed ones.

If you customized it, you could have each of the spoken messages represent a different Tarot Court Card, while each of the printed messages could be from the Major Arcana (22 plus The Happy Squirrel).

What fun!! I know it’s a long shot, but I’m putting Zoltar on my Christmas list just in case. You never know, there might be one out there looking for a new home.

Moon in Sagittarius – High Priestess in Temperance's Clothing

The High Priestess dressed in Temperance's Clothing

High Priestess as Temperance

The Moon moves into Sagittarius today and will be there until Saturday.

Looking at it through the eyes of the Tarot, you can describe this transit as being like the High Priestess wearing Temperance’s clothing. She’s dressed like an angel.

The Moon in Sagittarius, or High Priestess in Temperance’s clothing, indicates a time when intellect, practicality, emotions and passion can work together in relative ease.

What’s normally only an idea might find its way to becoming real. Even-tempered inspiration and emotional playfulness can create what look like miracles.

Take this time to bring your emotions in line with your passions. And play with your most serious ideas. It’s in combining the unexpected that you’ll likely find gold.

7 of Wands

It could be a crazy day with a lot on the go. Valour is important.

Stay true to yourself, firm in your stance and be prepared for anything and everything.

You might feel tested, but you’re up to the task. Stay strong and take things one step at a time, the results will be well worthwhile.

And whether you recognize it or not, you’re in a good position to do what you need to.

The 2 of Swords and the Star

October 17th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Sometimes when you’re contemplating a Tarot card, it’s fun to ask the other cards in your deck for more insight into the image you’re looking at.

I did that today when I was looking at the 2 of Swords from the Rider Waite Smith deck.

2 of Swords from the Smith Waite Tarot

In the picture, a woman sits blindfolded on a stone slab by the sea. She effortlessly holds two heavy swords across her chest, while the moon hangs above in the open night sky.

For me this card is typically about mental peace, or at least the attempt to achieve mental peace.

In a reading it might suggest that something weighs heavily on the mind of the inquirer and that they’re doing their best to keep their emotions in check, while at the same time trying to think clearly about their issue.

Normally when this card appears, I’m reminded that mental peace is a balance between emotions and rationality, and that to truly reflect, silence is key.

Looking further into the card, I notice that there’s a landmass in the background, like an island, or maybe the other side of a bay.

I decided to ask my deck what’s over there, and how does it influence the woman with the swords.

#17 The Star from the Smith Waite Tarot

The card I got was the Star. It seems kind of perfect.

It’s nighttime in both cards, and both show a woman pictured by the water. In the background of the Star card, there’s also a landmass.

Could that be where the 2 of Swords lady is sitting, unaware that there’s a goddess filling the ocean behind her with hope, compassion, and optimism for the future?

I really like the idea that the Star is hidden in the background of the 2 of Swords. I’d never really connected these two cards so directly before. Now that I look more closely though, there was always a hint.

The woman in the 2 of Swords is wearing yellow shoes, the colour of the moon above her, but also the colour of the Star goddess’ hair and the giant Star that hangs above her.

From now on, I’ll know – the moon in the 2 of Swords is reflecting the Star, and the blindfolded lady is grounded in her shine.

9 of Wands

You may have had a tough go of it this last little while, but you’re hardly ready to give up.  Have confidence in your inner strength and experience.

You have the tools necessary to get you through this situation.  It’s certainly not the first time you’ve faced it so you already know what to expect.

Stand tall and don’t back down from your truth.  You care about what you’re doing and that’s why there’s not much choice but to keep going forward.  If it gets too hard, take a break, but try not to stop.

Remember your power, it’s real and it comes from inside.
