And not only are these Tarot icons going to be on the show, they’re going to be interviewing each other. I can hardly wait to hear what they have to say.
He’s also the author of multiple books on the histories of Tarot, magic, astrology, and alchemy.
Enrique Enriquez is an inspirational Tarot poet and author of Tarology. He’s also the star of Chris Delio’s most excellent recent Tarot documentary, Tarology: the poetics of tarot.
This is going to be a fun night – I hope you can join us. We’ll be live in the chat room. And if you’d like to call in to listen, the number is (646) 200-0765.
Marie Anne Lenormand was a French fortune-teller born in the late 1700s. Through the Napoleonic era she was heralded as one of the greatest cartomancers of all time.
Mlle. Lenormand was said to have read for the likes of Robespierre, Marat, the Empress Josephine, and Czar Alexander himself.
She made quite a stir during her lifetime, writing books and other texts, causing many a public controversy, and sometimes even ending up in jail.
And though she herself didn’t use the deck her name was later attached to, her cartomantic powers seem to have lived on through it.
The Lenormand deck in its various manifestations has become quite in fashion among the Tarot folk these days. Even I recently caught the bug.
At BATS I attended a seminar on the topic with Mary Greer and within hours I had myself two news decks of 36 cards each.
You read these cards a little differently than Tarot. The meanings of each are much more fixed. They’re more like words in a sentence than symbols in a dream, but I’m starting to catch on.
Beyond Worlds has a Lenormand tutorial series and Donnaleigh herself has been posting how-to videos. I’ve got a lot watching and listening to do.
And though I’m looking forward to having a new divinatory tool to play with, I’m afraid I’ll find all the new Lenormand decks hard to resist.
Though typically you don’t need more than your favourite Tarot deck to do a reading, it can be interesting to mix your oracles in order to get a deeper look at a question.
In the video below, Donnaleigh de LaRose from Beyond Worlds, demonstrates how you might mix Tarot with oracle decks, runes, angel cards, and Lenormand in a ‘two-card reading’.
It’s fascinating to see how the various divinatory tools seem to echo each other layer upon layer. They all keep saying the same thing, just with slightly different voices.
Not only is Donche hilarious, he’s a creative genius as well, as can be seen by his about-to-be-published Darkana Tarot Deck.
I’ve had mine on order since February and can hardly wait to see it for real. And I’m really looking forward to hearing what Donche has to say about it tonight.
Join me and Donnaleigh de LaRose and everyone else live in the chat room, or call in at (646) 200-0765.
It’s going to be fun, and probably inappropriate as well.
The fabulous Donnaleigh de LaRose has created a wonderful little video about how to make a quick, easy, and very pretty Tarot bag for your favourite deck.
This afternoon, we have the good fortune of interviewing him ourselves on Beyond Worlds.
He’ll be talking with us about some of the Tarot reading methods found in his new book Tarot Face to Face, including using reversals, reading for cynics, creating oracular sentences, exquisite corpses, the Dwayne’s Boomerang Spread, and the Literal Lenormand Method.
Also co-edited with Tali Goodwin, Tarot Turn is part of a three volume collaborative effort of 140 different Tarot readers from around the world.
Each reader was given a single card and was asked to write a description of how that card interacts with each of the other 77 cards in the deck.
As can be imagined, it was an enormous project and has manifested in some pretty gigantic books. This first volume alone is 569 pages. It features 3,388 pairings of the Major Arcana – all 22 cards, upright and reversed.
It also includes disaffirmations for all 78 cards, spreads, reading techniques, as well as some mini-essays about reversals from people like Barbara Moore and Robert M. Place.
Join Donnaleigh de LaRose and myself to hear more about this incredible Tarot reference work and how to read Tarot Face to Face.
We’ll be live in the chat room, or you can call in at (646) 200-0765 to listen.
