The Pink Ouija

Carl and the pink Ouija Board

After wanting one for almost two years now, I finally got my very own Parker Brothers Pink Ouija Board.  As hard as it might be to believe, it’s even better than I could have hoped.

Not only is the Mystifying Oracle a gorgeous Barbie pink, but it comes with it’s own carrying case (also pink). More exciting yet, there’s a set of question cards, ’72 fun things to ask’, just to get the seance party going.

Given that the age recommendation is 8+ and the box reminds us that ‘Girls have Questions OUIJA has Answers!’ I shouldn’t have been surprised by what the cards suggest we ask.

A few samples …’Who would do anything for me?’, ‘Who wishes they could trade places with me’, ‘Where will I find buried treasure?’, ‘Will I climb Mt. Everest someday?’, ‘Will I ever be on reality TV?’, ‘If the Oujia could give me a pet, what would it be?’ and perhaps my favourite, ‘If I have to choose, will I choose love or money?’. (are the 8+ group really asking that?!)

And in case there’s some question about whether or not the answers received are ‘good’, there are a few specific queries for the board itself. They range from the somewhat tricky, ‘My best friend is _______’ and ‘My favourite colour is ________’, to the direct, ‘Ouija board, are you real?’

I haven’t had time to try it out yet, but I can hardly wait. I’m not sure I’ll use the suggested questions, but I’m definitely using the carrying case.

Back when I first came across the Pink Ouija, I was trying to teach myself flash. I was inspired by the board and came up with this ‘Welcome to the Tarot Room’ animation … if it works on your browser … click here for a Pink Ouija Welcome (the planchette hangs around the ‘hello’ a little too long, but give it a moment for a full welcome)

Fortune Telling Going to the Federal Court

October 22nd, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

Another case has been filed in US Federal Court against prohibitions on fortune telling.  This case involves Candice Wohlfeil, a tarot reader from East Ridge, Tennessee.

She’s been reading cards from a booth at a flea market since 2007.  In 2008 a Codes Enforcer came by and told her she was in violation of a local ordinance banning fortune-telling.  She questioned the constitutionality of the law and was told the City would look into it and get back to her.  They didn’t, until this past September when she was told that if she didn’t stop reading cards, she’d be fined $500 per violation.   She closed down her booth.

After attempting to contact the City Attorney with no success, Wohlfeil approached the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee.  They’ve taken up her case and brought it to Federal Court.

As reported by WDEF.com, ACL-TN Cooperating Attorney Donna Roberts  of Stites & Harbison PLLC said, “The First Amendment precludes the government from declaring which ideas are acceptable or not. Our client has the right to make predictions, whether for fun or profit, without the government discriminating against the content of her speech.”

I couldn’t agree more.  Power to you Candice!

6 of Swords

This is a good day to get your thoughts as clear as possible.  You’ve got some emotional issues that require honest focused attention.  To move forward with your commitment to self, it’s really important that you get your thoughts straight.

What choices are you being asked to make at this time?  Look them squarely in the face and choose.  If you can’t choose now, when do you think you can?  At least decide that.  Ask yourself what will bring you closer to your own truth – a union of mind, body and soul.

You’re sharp as a tack today.  Take advantage of the energy to decide what needs deciding.  You can do it.  How will you get to your next step if you don’t?

Jimmy Carter Intrigued by Parapsychology

White House Diary by Jimmy Carter

White House Diary

I haven’t had the chance to read Jimmy Carter’s newest book, White House Diary yet, but apparently, he has some good things to say about the CIA using parapsychology for intelligence gathering.

According to Politico.com, an entry from his diary on April 11, 1979 says “Both we and the Soviets use these parapsychologists on occasion to help us with sensitive intelligence matters, and the results are unbelievable.”

Later in the book while reflecting on this point, Carter comments, “The proven results of these exchanges between our intelligence services and parapsychologists raise some of the most intriguing and unanswerable questions of my presidency. They defy logic, but the facts are undeniable.”

Of course the CIA is adamant that they no longer engage in any sort of parapsychology research. But I wonder … did they tell us they were using it last time they did?

Anyway, good stuff Jimmy! I can’t wait to read the book.

The King of Swords

Clear rational thinking is at the fore today.  Is there something you need to take control of?  Have you been wavering and wishy-washy lately?  Stop procrastinating.  Focus, take charge and get it done.   Have the courage to be clear and rational.  Cut through the fog and let logic rule the day.

You know who you are, you know what you want and you’re sure you deserve it.   Go to it.  But beware of dictating what’s best for those around you. You might know how to take care of yourself, but let others take care of their own lives, their own way.

#12 – The Hanged Man

This isn’t the day for action.  It’s time to slow down and take a close look at what’s been going on. And if you can do it from a different perspective – great!   Choose a comfortable place to relax and review what you’ve been up to.  It might seem like a sacrifice, but it’s well worth it.

Are there patterns in your life that seem to becoming more obvious than usual? This is a wonderful time to pay attention to how you’re life’s been going these last three months or so.  Does it remind you of another time – maybe 12 years ago?  Look carefully at any people, places or things from your past (or that remind you of the past) that might unexpectedly appear. They might be highlighting particular areas in your life you’re repeating. Is it a repetition you’re happy with?

After you’ve done some review, start thinking about where you want to go next.  Your old ways are almost over.  Think about the new patterns you want to develop – you’ll be ready to start them soon enough.  For now, relax, review and let yourself imagine?

Russia Moves to Ban 'Mystical' Ads

October 19th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

The State Duma in Russia has taken the first steps to forbid the promotion of ‘mystical’ services through the mass media. According to The Moscow News, at present, such advertising is all over the printed press and TV.

Promising the return of lost love, money spells and cures for illness, shady fortune-tellers are duping the public. At least that’s how the government sees it and they want it to stop.

All healers who claim to use any unconventional or occult methods in their work would be affected by the new law. An exception will be made, however, for those who obtain a valid state license.

The Russian Orthodox Church supports the move. According to RT.com, the Moscow Patriarchate said in a public statement, ‘No civilized country can allow such a rampancy of self-advertising ‘magicians’ and ‘miracle-workers.'”

They too however accepted the possibility that some people may possess certain healing powers, but that their qualifications and methods of work would have to be scientifically confirmed to be accepted as real.

Four of Disks

4 of Disks

Money is probably hard to come by, while time is even more precious. Wherever you look, though, it seems like someone else is asking for more.

The tendency here is to gather yourself and your resources and go off alone to think. Go ahead and do that if you’d like, but try not to get yourself too closed off. You probably have more than you think you do. Maybe even enough to share.

If you’re being asked to spend on something that will help establish an even firmer foundation than you presently have, give it some serious thought. It might be more than you had anticipated, but the pay offs are probably well worth it.

Extravagant or foolish spending is not recommended, but remember the old adage – it takes money to make money. If you don’t put it out there, be it actual money, your physical effort or something else you consider really important, nothing’s coming back.

This is true about your emotions as well, don’t hold them too close to the chest. Be generous with your heart. Remember, you get what you give.

#21 – The Universe

Dance and rejoice!  You deserve to celebrate after a long journey.  A phase in your life is coming to a close – it’s big but not scary.

This is a good day to reflect on what’s been happening in your life over the last long while.  Where were your successes and what would you rather leave behind?  How did all the little stories turn into a whole big narrative?

Review, laugh and maybe even cry, but don’t carry old burdens with you going forward.  Be free and open and willing to be vulnerable.  You’ve done what you can.

It’s time now to simply enjoy your own little slice of the universe.  You’ll have plenty of time to plan your next step tomorrow.

Where am I?
