Fortune Telling in Kowloon, Hong Kong

Talk about a Psychic Fair!

Take a look at this video of fortune tellers being kept very very busy for the Chinese New Year near the Wong Tai Sin Temple in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

And by the way – I’m pretty sure the captions added are not accurate translations of what the people you see might be saying.

6 of Disks

The reckoning’s done and it’s finally time to dole out the rewards.  Have you done your fair share?  Are you ready to accept what’s due?

Success is coming to those who have done what they can to manifest their goals.  It may seem like manna from heaven but look again – it’s more likely compensation for a job well done.

And don’t forget to thank those who have been helping you. We’re never alone in either our successes or our failures.

Archetypology is a Croatian group art show inspired by archetypal themes.

Conceived by Ivana Rezek, the exhibition features work of over a hundred artists, all dealing with universal themes they personally feel connected to or wanted to explore more deeply.

In this slideshow you can see some of the work. Artists featured are Kresimira Gojanovic, Nikolina Ivezić, Lili Jurinec, Dijana Kocica, Chantal Laurin, Willie Marlowe, Tatjana Politeo, Natasa Stanisic and Rezek herself.

Though only Rezek’s work is overtly Tarot, it’s easy to imagine all of these pieces as cards in a deck. Nice.

Wheel of Fortune

Do it now!  That’s right it’s a fantastic day to get going on whatever project (especially a new one) you’ve been thinking about.  Opportunities abound for you to finally move forward with your plan.

Don’t be afraid if you think you can’t do it?  You’ve been spending plenty of time thinking about it.  Look close, you’ll see you have all you need to make it work. The only thing that will slow you down is doing things the same old way.  So stop that – and start fresh now.  You’re ready to go.  Go!

And if you happen to be feeling in the writing or publishing mood – this is an especially fantastic day.  Take the chance and see what you come up with – you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the effort.

Prince of Wands

Charge forward with strength and vitality.  This is a day of power, passion and growing energy. Your plan is in place and now’s the time to take it to the next step.  Use your internal fire to take you where you’re tying to go.

You don’t need to wait till everything’s perfect to start moving.  In fact, more often than not, things don’t start falling where they should until you start shifting them up and get some excitement going.  Take a chance that you know what you’re doing and act on it.  Believe in yourself and don’t be shy.

Tarot Views the News – Wisconsin, USA

February 20th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Wisconsin flag

Flag of Wisconsin

In the last segment of Tarot Views the News, we looked at some themes surrounding the situation in Egypt.

This time round, we’ll bring it back to North America and explore a few concepts highlighted by the ongoing protests in the state of Wisconsin.

This is not a predictive reading, but rather a look at the following terms from a Tarot perspective:

What is a Labor Union?
What is Compromise?
What is Leadership?
What is Social Justice?

When I asked, ‘what is a Labor Union?” the card I got was the 2 of Swords.

2 of Swords from the rider Waite Smith Tarot

2 of Swords

This card reflects two distinct viewpoints, the resolution of which comes through intelligent, serious communication.

Emotional issues are to be kept at bay, while carefully considering all sides of a situation.

At it’s best, a Labor Union is a balance of sorts, an attempt to make the parties in a labor for wage transaction equal and fair.

Labor unions are meant to discourage power imbalances.

2 of Cups from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

2 of Cups

I pulled the 2 of Cups for ‘what is Compromise?

This card is typically interpreted romantically, but in this context I think it’s pointing to the sacrifices we’re willing to make when we’re coming from a place of mutual respect.

Compromise is the understanding that other people matter too.

The caduceus above the two figures seems especially significant to our question.

It’s an ancient symbol of commerce and negotiation. Compromise is evenhanded exchange and reciprocity between two parties.

#20 Judgement from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

#20 Judgement

The card I pulled for ‘what is Leadership?’ was #20, Judgment.

Families rise from grey coffins, heeding the call of the Archangel Gabriel.

Leadership is clear vision and a call to action. Like the flaming angel in the card, a leader inspires and uplifts.

Leadership sees past the confines of what is now, and takes us beyond, to a better place.

#3 The Empress from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

#3 The Empress

And finally, when I asked, ‘what is Social Justice?’ I got #3, the Empress.

Social Justice is love, like that of a mother for her children. It is nurturing, creative, and compassionate.

The Empress is concerned with what is real, that which is experienced by our five senses.

She wants these experiences to be shared by all of her children. And if they suffer, she does too.

Social Justice is bountiful and abundant. There is enough for everyone.
It is love and respect for all creatures of the world.

There’s an interesting progression in these cards. If we look at the 20 as being 2 + 0, equaling 2, we have three 2s followed by a 3.

Could that mean that Labour Union/Compromise/Leadership progresses into Social Justice?

You may have had a tough go of it this last little while, but you’re hardly ready to give up.  Have confidence in your inner strength and experience.

You have the tools necessary to get you through this situation.  It’s certainly not the first time you’ve faced it so you already know what to expect.

Stand tall and don’t back down from your truth.  You care about what you’re doing and that’s why there’s not much choice but to keep going forward.  If it gets too hard, take a break, but try not to stop.

Remember your power, it’s real and it comes from inside.

Fortune-Telling Ban May Lift in Meridian, Mississippi

Meridian, Mississippi

Meridian, Mississippi

The city of Meridian, Mississippi is taking steps to lift a ban on fortune telling and palmistry businesses.

According to the Meridian Star, the law presently states that,

“It shall be unlawful for any person within the corporate limits of the city to carry on the business of telling fortunes or to carry on the trade, business or profession of phrenology, clairvoyance, palmistry or other business of like kind or nature in which the future of any person is foretold or attempted to be foretold.”

Questions about the constitutionality of this prohibition have come into question, leading City Council this past week to ask its attorney to draw up an order to rescind it.

Similar laws have recently been struck down in Michigan, Georgia and Maryland.

4 of Cups

Today it might seem like you’ve got it all, and yet there’s still something missing.  Emotionally, you’ve got plenty of support.  People around you love you and you love them back.  Despite it all though, there’s a nagging feeling that it’s just not enough.

Perhaps you’re fantasizing about a new love, a new friend, or at a new spark to make what you’ve already got even more special.

Examine these feelings carefully and determine what it is that leaves you slightly unsatisfied.  Are you being reasonable – or a bit of a brat.  Pay attention to what you’ve got and don’t forget to give thanks.

At the same time – if there is something missing, it’s missing and there’s no getting around it.  Meditate on what it is that leaves you wanting more and figure out whether or not it’s something you should pursue.

Remember though, what you wish for might just appear out of thin air – make sure you really want it?
