Moon in Aquarius – High Priestess in the Star's Clothing

High Priestess in Star's Clothing

High Priestess in Star's Clothing

The Moon moves into Aquarius today and stays there until Tuesday.

Described in Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Star. In other words, her robes are gone and she’s naked as the bird in the tree behind her.

The Moon in Aquarius, or High Priestess in the Star’s clothing, can sometimes be emotionally stressful. Hope may be in the air, but it’s a cautious hope.

Emotionally you feel like sharing, bubbling over with dreams for the future. But your mind keeps getting in the way, reminding you that dreams can sometimes be nightmares.

Try not to spend what could be a nice time double guessing yourself or listing off all the reasons things could go wrong. They might. But they probably won’t.

Be real, but not a wet blanket. Rather than smothering your dreams, direct them with intelligence.

King of Cups

Compassion, emotional strength and mature love are key energies today.  The King of Cups understands well the joys and sacrifices involved in relationships of all kinds.

Concern yourself with how others are feeling, what they need for support and how you might help.  Through concern for the needs of others you might unexpectedly fulfill your own.

And if you know you’re needing some assistance yourself but have been afraid to ask – get over it.  Emotional generosity and support are there if you’re willing to let someone help.  But they have to know you need the help before they can offer it.

Divining Adventure in Camden

July 14th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Cards are fun, whether they’re Tarot or not. They’re even fun when they’re virtual and used as an event guide.

Like the ones on camdenplayers.co.uk where people in Camden, London can divine where to find good times in their neighbourhood this July.

Visitors to the site are welcomed by Mr. Eks, the master of serendipity and captain of the covert. By dealing the cards, he’ll find an adventure perfectly suited to each person who asks.

www.camdenplayers.co.uk

my first choices - flytrap, palm tree or cactus

Three choices are offered to start. It’s sort of like finding a signifcator for the reading. What you choose at this stage is meant to determine the choices to follow.

By the end of the reading, you end up with three possible events you might like to attend. I know I liked what Mr. Eks suggested for me. Too bad I’m not in Camden this month.

But it’s fun to play whether you’re there or not. And if you are there … try it out!!

The site was created by the design agency Coney. They based it around the historic culture and characters of Camden. I think it’s just great. Good work.

Queen of Swords from Georgie's Deck

Queen of Swords

Queen of Swords

The truth is an important commodity right now.  Getting through the fog and cutting out that which no longer works is a priority.

You might be feeling a little hardcore, a little less sympathetic to sob stories and other tales of woe than usual.  That’s all right.  Sometimes it’s more important to be clear than to be sweet.

Get the job done and do it with the determination, diligence and discernment that you expect from others.

Keep in mind though that the bigger picture includes compassion.  You need not be cruel or mean to be truthful and serious.

Not everyone is as tough-skinned as you are right now, so be aware of the potential effect your words might have.

Tarot Views the News – News Corp

July 13th, 2011 § 2 comments § permalink

A giant phone hacking scandal led Rupert Murdoch to close down his flagship paper News of the World this past Sunday.

It’s a big story that looks like it’s getting bigger, and seems like an interesting topic for Tarot Views the News.

This is not a predictive reading, but rather a quick look at the following ideas, using the Tarot.

•what is hacking?
•what is privacy?
•what is journalism?
•what is the free press?

5 of Cups from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

5 of Cups

The first card I pulled answered the question, ‘what is hacking? Consciously, I would have chosen the 7 of Swords, but the card I pulled was the 5 of Cups.

Rather than describing the action of hacking, the card seems to be describing the consequences. Hacking breaks trust, public and personal. It causes a lot of sadness and a desire to turn inwards.

The card might also represent the type of information that hacking usually gathers – personal sadnesses, tragedies, insecurities, and failings, all the disappointments in our lives, our spilt cups.

Queen of Wands from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

Queen of Wands

I pulled the Queen of Wands when I asked, ‘what is privacy?’ There she sits, with her little black cat, the keeper of secrets.

Privacy is power, your own personal power. This Queen is independent and strong, concerned more with being able to do what she wants, then to make others do anything.

In other words, she might be outgoing, but typically this Queen doesn’t try to get in your business.

And like her element fire, the desire for privacy expands and recedes. Sometimes we reach out and share, and sometimes we keep to ourselves. Privacy is the right to decide which we want to do when.

8 of Cups from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

8 of Cups

For ‘what is journalism?,’ I pulled the 8 of Cups.

This card shows a willingness to leave what seems easy or comfortable in order to find deeper meaning. Or in this context, to follow the story.

Journalism is a passion. It’s not enough to just stay where everyone else is, you have to venture out to get the scoop. Depending on how you do that, it could be good or bad.

And maybe this card is also pointing to how journalism has been changing, that it might seem like the old structures are still stable, but really, they’re no longer serving their purpose.

Like the man in the card walking away from the upright cups, whether they’re being forced out through layoffs, or making the choice themselves, journalists are leaving traditional news organizations in droves.

#16 The Tower from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

#16 The Tarot

And finally, for ‘what is the free press?” I got the Tower – the shattering of empires, prisons, towers we’ve created for ourselves.

A free press isn’t afraid to speak to power, and sometimes that’s all it takes to brings things down. Revealing the truth can change the world.

And maybe the free press itself is facing a Tower of its own. This News Corp situation could really shake things up.

It’s a lightening strike that might tumble more than one fortress.

Moon in Capricorn – High Priestess in the Devil's Clothing

The High Priestess dressed as the Devil

High Priestess as the Devil

The Moon moves into Capricorn today and will stay there until Friday.

If you were to describe this transit using the Tarot, you might say that the High Priestess is wearing the Devil’s clothing. The virginal goddess has gotten downright beastly.

The Moon in Capricorn, or High Priestess in the Devil’s clothing, is a period of potential internal conflict. The physical world might seem to draw you away from what you typically believe to be right.

You might feel driven or compelled by behaviours and attitudes that go against the grain of your morality. It could be liberating or disturbing, depending on your secrets.

Whatever’s going on though, don’t be too hard on yourself. Get obsessions out of your system, and learn what you can about yourself while you do so.

You should be ready to move on soon. There’s nothing wrong with a little focused physicality. Just don’t get stuck.

4 of Cups

Today it might seem like you’ve got it all, and yet there’s still something missing.  Emotionally, you’ve got plenty of support.  People around you love you and you love them back.  Despite it all though, there’s a nagging feeling that it’s just not enough.

Perhaps you’re fantasizing about a new love, a new friend, or at a new spark to make what you’ve already got even more special.

Examine these feelings carefully and determine what it is that leaves you slightly unsatisfied.  Are you being reasonable – or a bit of a brat.  Pay attention to what you’ve got and don’t forget to give thanks.

At the same time – if there is something missing, it’s missing and there’s no getting around it.  Meditate on what it is that leaves you wanting more and figure out whether or not it’s something you should pursue.

Remember though, what you wish for might just appear out of thin air – make sure you really want it?

April's Army Tarot Project

July 12th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Here’s another Tarot Kickstarter project that looks interesting…

It’s April’s Army Tarot Project and features 25 artists from across the world coming together to create 78 original cards.

All participants are fans of the website Regretsy.com, who’s catchphrase is, ‘Where DIY Meets WTF’. And they’ve invoked that spirit in the creation of their deck.

They’re working in a wide variety of mediums – paint, pencils, pixels, fabric and clay. And you might say they’ve taken liberties with the traditional Tarot suits.

Instead of the familiar Swords, Cups, Wands and Pentacles, they’ve opted for Tools, Genitalia, WTF, and Whimsicles (F*ckery). And yes, that’s how they spell Whimsicles.

The adult nature of this deck might not be for everyone, but it looks really fun to me. You can see some of the cards and artist discussions at their collaboration space. And watch the video below to meet some of the people involved.

April’s Army is trying to raise money for production costs and they’re accepting pledges until August 4. For as little as $20 you can help get the deck finished and get your own copy as soon as it’s back from the printer in November.

Visit their Kickstarter page to read more about the deck. And consider supporting it. When regretable crafting meets Tarot, it’s something to celebrate.

Moon in Sagittarius – High Priestess in Temperance's Clothing

The High Priestess dressed in Temperance's Clothing

High Priestess as Temperance

The Moon moves into Sagittarius today and will be there until Wednesday.

Looking at it through the eyes of the Tarot, you can describe this transit as being like the High Priestess wearing Temperance’s clothing. She’s dressed like an angel.

The Moon in Sagittarius, or High Priestess in Temperance’s clothing, indicates a time when intellect, practicality, emotions and passion can work together in relative ease.

What’s normally only an idea might find its way to becoming real. Even-tempered inspiration and emotional playfulness can create what look like miracles.

Take this time to bring your emotions in line with your passions. And play with your most serious ideas. It’s in combining the unexpected that you’ll likely find gold.

It looks like it’ll be a sweet day.  Open communication full of love and tenderness.  This is a day to make sure you tell the people you love how much they mean to you.

If you’re starting a romantic relationship, or in one, it can be especially delicious.  Be romantic and enjoy each other.  It’s a time of beauty, peace and innocence, the reason we love love so much.

If you’re not feeling romantic, take the energy and let yourself simply express how much you care about those around you.

It will be most powerful if you tell them one-to-one.  Let them know they’re special, it’ll make you feel great too.
