Moon in Virgo – High Priestess in the Hermit's Clothing

The High Priestess wearing the Hermit's clothing

High Priestess as Hermit

The Moon moves into Virgo today and will be there until Monday.

From a Tarot perspective, you might think of this transit as the High Priestess wearing the Hermit’s clothes. She’s putting on her cowl.

The Moon in Virgo, or High Priestess in the Hermit’s clothing, is a time for practical, quiet reflection. Seeking the advice of an expert, and listening carefully to what they have to say could be worthwhile.

Or maybe someone will be asking you for your advice.

Your home is more important now than the outside world. Start thinking how to make it more practical. You might not be ready to do the work just yet, but this is a great time to plan.

Emotionally, it’s a time of calm. Perfect for listening and reflecting rather than acting out in passion. Take your time. There’s no rush.

Study, organization, contemplation, solitude, emotional self-reflection. Don’t be afraid to be alone right now. There’s lot’s to do on your own.

Prince of Swords

It’s a day of dynamic action.  You know what you want to do, you know what you need to do and you probably know how to do it.  Just go ahead and make it happen.  Your mind’s working overtime and at lightning speed.  Flow with this powerful energy and charge towards you goals.

You might find it difficult to focus on just one issue. Two or three different ideas or projects are dragging you every which way.  Don’t worry.   Do what you can and focus on what’s in front of you when it’s in front of you.  Reign your mind in. One thing at a time and it will all get done.

And as always – remember to play nice.

A Megalithic Dowsing Challenge

18th century dowser from Pierre le Brun, Histoire critique des pratiques superstitieuses, (Jean-Frederic Bernard, 1733–1736)

18th century dowser

If you don’t know already, dowsing is a method of divination used to find things. Most often the tools used are a dowsing rod or a pendulum.

Locating water has been a main focus of dowsers throughout the ages, but the process is also used to find precious metals, oil, gravesites, and buried treasure.

Really anything that’s buried or hidden can conceivably be found through dowsing. At least if you believe in it.

According to The Megalithic Portal website, the question of dowsing is one of the most hotly debated topics in their forum.

Those that believe are sure it can be used to find anything. Others are very skeptical, saying they need more evidence before they’re convinced.

The Megalithic Portal is a website devoted to the identification, documentation, and protection of Ancient Sites throughout the world. If dowsing works, they could certainly put it to good use.

So in a semi-serious, though completely unscientific contest, the Portal is looking into the question of whether or not dowsing is real. Specifically, dowsing with a map.

They’ve posted two maps, each of which contain a hidden archeological discovery that has not yet been publicized. The challenge is to discover the exact location of these items using whatever dowsing method you choose.

You don’t need any prior experience to take part. In fact, you can just guess if you want. But it would probably be more fun to actually give your pendulum or dowsing rod a try.

Take a look at their site to see the maps and pictures of the objects to be located. You could win a prize!

Submissions will be accepted until midnight this Sunday, November 20th.

#4 The Emperor from Georgie's Tarot

#4 The Emperor

#4 – The Emperor

You can expect a day of fiery energy and powerful determination.  In whatever you do today, you’re encouraged to do it with strength and creativity – in fact it would be hard not to.  Within your domain you’re the one in charge, so manifest your will.

What have you been wanting to create in your world?  Start making it really happen!

While you’re encouraged to take your power and run with it, there is a challenge associated with the Emperor.  Remember – not everyone might want to do things your way.  Everyone thinks they’re right.

Sometimes you have to give a little.  If you don’t, don’t be surprised if other people start rearing their own Emperor energy and you’re smack dab in the middle of a fight.

Masculine energy is strongly indicated with the Emperor card and issues surrounding males, especially those in authority are likely during this time.  Stay strong and true and you won’t go wrong.

Furla Makes Tarot Chic

Ace of Cups from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

Tarot and fashion meet again – this time in handbags. The Italian fashion company Furla has just introduced a new line of handbags inspired by imagery from the Tarot.

From what I can see, the Ace of Cups is the featured pattern, but there are also designs that involve the Moon, and a Knight.

The designs aren’t from any deck I recognize, but they’re sweet.

The Ace is made up of three houses that look like little bird-houses, and there’s lots of roses all around them.

The knight doesn’t seem to have a particular suit but he’s standing atop an orange tiger-like creature so I’ll call him the Knight of Wands.

Only the Moon appears traditional, and I only saw it in one design that also included what looked to be astrological imagery.

The bags don’t come cheap, ranging from €40 to €245. But with all those Aces of Cups, I can hardly resist.

What could be better than carrying around a stylish bag of new love?

Moon in Leo – High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

The High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

High Priestess as Strength

The Moon moves into Leo today and stays there until Friday.

Translated into Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is wearing Strength’s clothing. She’s thrown off her heavy cape and is spending some time outside with her lion.

The Moon in Leo, or High Priestess in Strength’s clothing is potentially a time of emotional power. Something beautiful that’s usually under wraps can finally be revealed.

The silence is broken. Quiet wisdom and passion can be united. During this time, it might be difficult to keep your ideas to yourself. But why should you?

Try finding an outlet for plans you’ve been sitting on? This is an opportunity to shine if you’re not over-burdened by self-consciousness.

It might feel a little uncomfortable at first, but letting your wilder side out right now could be positive. The sun isn’t always shining. Take advantage of it when it does.

Ten of Cups from Georgie's Tarot

10 of Cups

10 of Cups

You feel full up with all the love around you.  In fact, you might even be a little overwhelmed with how much you care and how loved you feel.

This is a happy time to be with your family or friends or whoever it is that makes up your social community.

You’re probably nearing the end of an important emotional phase.  Taking the time now to recognize and be grateful for all you have will help prepare you for the beginning of the next stage of your journey.

Celebrate with your loved ones, remembering with joy and humour all the good and not so good days that brought you to where you are now.

Modern Art and the Occult

November 15th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

As Mary K. Greer has shown in her research on Cartomancers in Western Art, artists have long been inspired by the process of divination. And not just divination, general themes of the occult have infused artistic expression throughout the ages.

Pam Grossman, curator and creator of the wonderful mystic art blog Phantasmaphile, will look at the subject of artists and the occult in an illustrated lecture this coming Friday, November 18th. Her talk is called The Occult in Modern Art 101.

If you happen to be in Brooklyn, New York that night, you might want to check it out. She’ll be specifically looking at the influence of alchemy, Spiritualism, Theosophy, and shamanism in modern western art.

Different periods will be covered, including works from the Symbolists, Cubism, Dada, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and today’s visionary art.

As she explains it, the lecture is meant to be a ‘visual primer on the existence of magic in our museums and galleries.’

It’s sounds fascinating.

The Occult in Modern Art 101 is part of an ongoing series of lectures and events at Observatory, an art and event space in the Gowanus neighbourhood of Brooklyn.

Take a look at their schedule. They’ve got everything from Tarot classes to instruction on the art and ritual of animal mummification.

Page of Cups

Sweetness abounds when the page of cups is around.  This is a great day to communicate emotions – enthusiastically and without censor, especially to those you love.

There’s a lightness in the air and the sense that something new could be starting.  And it just might be.

It’s good to remember though, that there’s no need for you to commit to anything serious right now.  It’s still the time of freshness and beginnings.  Becoming heavy now would only dampen what’s still just growing.

Express yourself and let your imagination wander.

The Spirit Board Group Show

November 14th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

black cat and the talking board

If you like art, the Ouija, and are in San Francisco sometime in the next couple of weeks, take a trip to Loved to Death’s Articulated Gallery.

Their show for November is called The Spirit Board Group Show and is dedicated to the magic of the talking board.

Though the Ouija Board as we know it today has only been around since the late 1800’s, people have used similar tools to contact spirits for centuries.

Playing with the board can be a lot of fun, but it’s also a little creepy.

Sure it could be just some unconscious muscle actions of the particpants that pushes the planchette around.

But maybe it’s not. Some of the messages the board relates certainly can leave you wondering.

The Spirit Board Group Show captures the fun and creepiness of the Ouija, and all spirit boards. The pieces are haunted and beautiful.

And given that Loved to Death is a taxidermy jewelry store, it couldn’t be a better venue.
