The Moon moves into Cancer today, and stays there until Wednesday.
Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, you might describe it as the High Priestess dressed in the clothing of the Charioteer. She’s left the safety of her pillars and veil, and has hit the road.
The Moon in Cancer, or the High Priestess dressed as the Charioteer, can be a powerful time of comfortable change and emotional resilience.
Knowledge gathered in silence has coalesced and it’s time to share without fear of being hurt.
Emotional loyalty, intuitive direction and strength of character can give you the resolve to go forward. Even into the unknown.
Try not to coddle yourself. You can only win if you have the courage to play to the end.
Start that new project now! I know it’s just the beginning and you can hardly see how it’s going to manifest, but manifest it will. The Ace of Disks is the seed that begins all new physical realities.
Is it a new job? A novel approach to an old one? Trying to get a project off the ground? Starting a new workout or eating regime?
It doesn’t matter if you don’t have all the details yet. What’s important right now is to start working. Do it with the confidence that it’s going to succeed – in the real world.
All great trips require a first step. This is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Take the step and start the journey.
I’ve always said you can read anything, and apparently buildings are no exception.
When you think about it, it’s not so strange. After all, blueprints are read and buildings are just 3D blueprints.
And of course, buildings often have plenty of symbols on them. Just ask a Mason about the hidden messages in architecture. I’m sure they’d have lots to say.
But I’d never really thought about fortune-telling with buildings before.
According to Turkish artist Aslı Çavuşoğlu, building façade reading is an ancient Greek and Assyrian practice, one she wants to keep alive.
It was part walking tour and part performance piece, as well as a hands-on class on how to read buildings through architectural symbols and prophetic rituals.
While discussing everything from how to create a divinatory system, to who a reading from a building would be for, they focused on three New York City landmarks – the Hearst Tower, the 21 Club, and the ‘Ghostbusters Building’ at 55 Central Park West.
It sounds like a really interesting talk and walk. I wish they’d do it in Toronto some time.
Compassion, emotional strength and mature love are key energies today. The King of Cups understands well the joys and sacrifices involved in relationships of all kinds.
Concern yourself with how others are feeling, what they need for support and how you might help. Through concern for the needs of others you might unexpectedly fulfill your own.
And if you know you’re needing some assistance yourself but have been afraid to ask – get over it. Emotional generosity and support are there if you’re willing to let someone help. But they have to know you need the help before they can offer it.
Just the other day I wrote about the Page of Swords and posted a video of a girl doing a sword dance to demonstrate that card’s energy.
Today I came across a video that brought to mind the Prince of Swords. He’s not unlike his sister, just further along in the suit, and significantly more assertive.
The Prince is on the go. He’s sharp, quick, and not likely to back down from a challenge.
He’s especially good at strategy and can spin an argument like no one’s business. But he’s not always consistent, and sometimes just fights for the sake of fighting.
He’s smart, inspiring, and ultimately just wants things to make sense. And if he can come out on top in a situation, all the better.
The video below is by Dan Bull and is about the video game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, released yesterday. The character Dragonborn is a great Prince of Swords warrior.
Get down to work. Nothing exciting going on, except maybe the chance to get more done than you thought you would.
Follow the template and don’t worry about being particularly innovative today. It’s probably more important to just get it done.
To motivate yourself try remembering that what you’re working on now is setting you up for your future. Put in the effort and it’ll ultimately pay off.
Mars moves into Virgo today and will stay there until July 30, 2012. It will be retrograde from January 23 to April 13th.
From a Tarot perspective, this transit is like the Tower’s crashing around the Hermit and the night skies are on fire.
The Tower is raw power exploding from out of nowhere and shaking down everything in its wake.
It’s great for breaking through blocks and stale ways of thinking, but it can sure make things uncomfortable.
The Tower might be shocking, but at least if provides a chance to start fresh. Things that once seemed solid crumble like sand and it becomes apparent that they weren’t so solid after all.
The Hermit isn’t particularly keen on surprises. He’s slow moving and likes his fire contained.
He’s concerned with the inner realms, and spends a lot of time by himself just thinking. Wisdom is within, and it takes time alone to discover it.
The Hermit isn’t lonely or morose, just contemplative. He likes it where he is. And though he might not throw a lot of parties, he’ll welcome you if you drop by.
When the Tower shows up in the Hermit’s realm, it certainly messes with his routine, but he’s been through more than one shake up in his long life, and faces the commotion unruffled.
Mars in Virgo, or the Tower striking the Hermit, is a time to throw away your old routine and start building a new one.
A new perspective is almost certain to arise, and it’s likely to come from somewhere unexpected.
Don’t be afraid to look beyond your comfort zone, and don’t give up the details just because things around you seem chaotic.
It’s time to energetically reorganize and create a new plan of action that will be even better than before.
Stick with what you need to do and keep going. Things will calm down soon enough, and you’ll know so much more by the time it’s done.
The Moon moves into Gemini today and will stay there until Monday.
From a Tarot perspective, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Lovers’ Angel. She floats above the naked couple, blessing their sacred union.
The Moon in Gemini, or High Priestess dressed as the Lovers’ angel, can be an emotionally confusing time, one where internal conflicts arise in order to be reconciled.
But it can also be a time of clarity, honest communication and almost intuitive understanding about yourself and those around you.
Quiet faith teams up with commitment and the Angels approve of the whole thing.
Try to keep your emotions in line with your reason. Going too far either way could disturb a really nice balance.
Today it might seem like you’ve got it all, and yet there’s still something missing. Emotionally, you’ve got plenty of support. People around you love you and you love them back. Despite it all though, there’s a nagging feeling that it’s just not enough.
Perhaps you’re fantasizing about a new love, a new friend, or at a new spark to make what you’ve already got even more special.
Examine these feelings carefully and determine what it is that leaves you slightly unsatisfied. Are you being reasonable – or a bit of a brat. Pay attention to what you’ve got and don’t forget to give thanks.
At the same time – if there is something missing, it’s missing and there’s no getting around it. Meditate on what it is that leaves you wanting more and figure out whether or not it’s something you should pursue.
Remember though, what you wish for might just appear out of thin air – make sure you really want it?
But Arthur Waite’s decision to use descriptive pictures throughout the minor arcana made it easy for even first time users to do a reading. And to begin to understand the philosophy buried within the cards.
The RWS deck, accompanied by Waite’s Pictorial Key to the Tarot, opened Tarot up to everyone, not just those who were members of secret magical societies.
I think Waite was interested in much more than just ‘peering into the future’ as this piece seems to suggest, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
Through their deck, Arthur Waite and artist Pamela Colman Smith made an enormous contribution to Tarot. They really changed everything.
