There are a lot of different perspectives on the Tarot, probably as many as there are people when you start getting specific.
Three of them are represented in the video below. It’s called Tarot: The Everlasting Debate, and was put together by Lisa Montanaro and Joe Martindale.
The clip features three different people all talking about Tarot. There’s Father LaMorte, a Catholic priest who comes to the topic from a religious viewpoint.
There’s Bernadette Ramirez, a psychic reader who owns a magic shop. She sees the cards as an intuitive tool, good for opening psychic communication.
And then there’s Tarot scholar, designer, and author Rachel Pollack, who approaches the cards as something to be studied in their own right.
They all have interesting things to say, I wish the interviews were longer.
The Moon moves into Taurus today and stays there until Friday.
If you look at this transit through the eyes of the Tarot, it would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Hierophant. She’s sitting before two acolytes and sharing the secrets she usually guards.
The Moon in Taurus, or High Priestess in the Hierophant’s clothes, is a time of spiritual and emotional certitude.
There’s a sense that the truth can be explained, understood and incorporated into daily life. Rules can and should be followed.
Instead of trying to force others to recognize what you know to be certain, try using this time to simply share your emotional, intellectual and spiritual perceptions.
Celebrate the diversity of spirit in our world, while figuring out for yourself what rules, spiritual or otherwise, work best for you.
Most likely, this is an important time. You’re probably coming to the end of a long phase and are in the process of review. Judgment might be a heavy word to use, but that’s likely the situation – you’re judging yourself and your progress to date. How do you rate yourself? How are you rating others? Where do you want to go next?
There’s a strong element of resurrection in this energy. As the phase you’re in comes to a close, you ready yourself for rebirth. Listen carefully to what your soul is trying to tell you. What have you learned through these last years? What might you want to try again? What might you want to let go of? The big question is how might you be even more alive going forward?
Enjoy this time for what it is, though it might feel confusing and even a little anxiety-ridden. Soon there will be movement. Take a good look at your past, a good look at your present and envision what you want to do next. What do you want your life to be like tomorrow? It’s up to you to make it happen.
Each year, thousands of Tarot lovers from across the globe are asked to vote for one person who has shown outstanding contribution to Tarot throughout the year.
Contributions might include anything from academic Tarot scholarship to innovative deck design.
Anything really that raises the accessibility, understanding, and development of Tarot within the community and beyond.
Even podcasts can win. Beyond Worlds was honoured as last year’s recipient of the award, something that still thrills me today.
But we’re happy to pass the baton, and there are so many people that deserve to be recognized for the amazing work they’ve been doing.
Voting closes December 24, 2011 – so vote now! I did.
You can expect a day of fiery energy and powerful determination. In whatever you do today, you’re encouraged to do it with strength and creativity – in fact it would be hard not to. Within your domain you’re the one in charge, so manifest your will.
What have you been wanting to create in your world? Start making it really happen!
While you’re encouraged to take your power and run with it, there is a challenge associated with the Emperor. Remember – not everyone might want to do things your way. Everyone thinks they’re right.
Sometimes you have to give a little. If you don’t, don’t be surprised if other people start rearing their own Emperor energy and you’re smack dab in the middle of a fight.
Masculine energy is strongly indicated with the Emperor card and issues surrounding males, especially those in authority are likely during this time. Stay strong and true and you won’t go wrong.
Tonight we’re welcoming Tarot Conversationalist and Ritualist, HiC Luttmers to Beyond Worlds.
HiC will be talking to us about how he combines Tarot with ritual, magic oils, and meditation to empower, heal, and create positive change in the lives of his clients and himself.
He sees Tarot as a catalyst for the intuitive process, and uses it alongside other techniques and materials from a variety of magical and spiritual disciplines.
Join us for what’s sure to be an enlightening discussion. We’ll be live in the chat room, or you can call in at (646) 200-0765.
And if you miss the show tonight, you can always listen later.
All Beyond Worlds episodes are available in archive. See the full list of shows at Donnaleigh’s website.
The Moon moves into Aries today and will stay there until Tuesday.
Translating this transit into Tarot Cards, it would be like the High Priestess is wearing the Emperor’s clothing. She’s in scarlet and armor and is ready for battle.
The Moon in Aries, or High Priestess in the clothing of the Emperor, is a time of intensified emotions. You might feel an increased desire to shape your own world.
Rather than sitting back in stillness, this transit encourages the loosening of emotional restrictions and the conscious expression of enthusiasm and/or passion.
It might be uncomfortable at first, but allow yourself to speak out loud. Take steps forward to let people know what you know and what you love.
Try to remain objective and open-minded while acting with determination and direction. It might sound impossible, but you can do both if you try.
It was just over a week ago that we got this card. The Magician wants us to notice something.
Were you thinking of starting something new? This is the time to do it. The energy of The Magician encourages you to start fresh.
Look around – I bet you have all the tools you need for this new enterprise. It’s only up to you to start making things happen.
Name your goal and start listing the steps you need to get there. Especially important is that first step. It can be big or small – just take it! You’re at the very beginning right now, don’t let the long journey ahead dissuade you from going forward.
You can’t go back, so what the heck? Focus on what it is you want to achieve and you can make anything happen.
Beware though, don’t try fooling yourself or others, there’s no need for deception. It will only lead you down the wrong road right from the start. Stay true to your plan and keep yourself focused.
You can do what you need to without resorting to trickery or lies. It’ll work out much better in the long run if you stick to the truth.
Oops … Mercury Retrograde has messed with me (or at least that’s my story, and I might as well stick with it).
The Beyond Worlds Tarot Intensive on the feminine Aces is not until next month, Sunday, January 15th at 7:00 pm ET (4:00 pm PT), not tonight.
I’m sorry for the confusion … but let’s just blame Mercury.

Last time we tried, but we only got through two of the four Aces. So tonight on Beyond Worlds, we’re back to finish the job.
It’s Tarot Intensive #14, and it’s going to be all about the ‘female’ Aces – the Ace of Cups and the Ace of Pentacles. They’re the seeds of emotion and physicality.
