Britain's Wicca Man – a documentary

April 18th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

For those of you interested in magic, pagans, and/or Wicca, a new documentary about Gerald Gardner is soon to be released.

Britain’s Wicca Man, produced by Matchlight, features narration by pagan expert Professor Ronald Hutton and delves into the history of modern pagan witchcraft, Wicca, and Wicca founder Gerald Gardner himself.

From a small forest coven born in a 1940s British nudist colony, Gardner began what’s become one of the fastest growing religions in the world.

He may have looked a little nutty, but apparently a lot of people over the last seventy years have liked his message.

Take a look at the trailer below. I can’t wait to see the whole film!

Moon in Aries – High Priestess in the Emperor's Clothing

High Priestess dressed as the Emperor

High Priestess dressed as Emperor

The Moon moves into Aries today and will stay there until Saturday.

Translating this transit into Tarot Cards, it would be like the High Priestess is wearing the Emperor’s clothing. She’s in scarlet and armor and is ready for battle.

The Moon in Aries, or High Priestess in the clothing of the Emperor, is a time of intensified emotions. You might feel an increased desire to shape your own world.

Rather than sitting back in stillness, this transit encourages the loosening of emotional restrictions and the conscious expression of enthusiasm and/or passion.

It might be uncomfortable at first, but allow yourself to speak out loud. Take steps forward to let people know what you know and what you love.

Try to remain objective and open-minded while acting with determination and direction. It might sound impossible, but you can do both if you try.

2 of Wands

This is a day for looking forward.  You’ve got some time and you’re in a good position to look around and see what you want to do next.  The world is literally in your hands and it’s up to you to decide the next move.

What is it that makes you feel most in control of your domain?  What is it that makes you feel you’re really doing what you’re supposed to be doing?

Don’t rush this – it takes some serious consideration.  Use this time to start getting a grip on your destiny.  You’re in charge of this one.  Don’t be afraid to take control.  Your option is to let someone else.

Quilting, Tarot, and the 2 of Wooden Spoons

April 17th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Quilts, like Tarot decks, are made up of many little pieces. Each piece has meaning of its own, but together they have a chance to tell a much bigger story.

I wrote about the Kitchen Tarot by Susan Shie before, but I came across it again in a news piece about a tribute to Ardis James, a long-time patron of quilt making.

The Kitchen Tarot by Susan Shie, guidebook by Dennis Fairchild

In the Kitchen Tarot’s 2 of Wooden Spoons, Shie depicted Ardis and her friend Betty whipping up some salsa. And what’s especially wonderful about the image is that it’s actually a quilt.

All the original images from the Kitchen Tarot are quilts. Can you imagine how beautiful they must be!

For those lucky enough to be in the Lincoln, Nebraska area, there’s now a chance for you to see at least one of them in person.

Shie donated the 2 of Wooden Spoons to the International Quilt Study Center and Museum, and it’s presently on display as part of the Tribute to Ardis James. Get down to see it if you can.

And in the spirit of quilt making, take a look at the video below.

It features Diane Rose, a quilter from Waco, Texas. Not only are her quilts beautiful, but she makes them all by hand despite being completely blind.

The piece has nothing to do with Tarot, but Rose is truly inspirational, and well worth taking a listen to.

#5 – The Hierophant

Spiritual questions and tradition are highlighted during this period.  It’s probably important to you now to look carefully at the spiritual structures in your life.  Why do you believe what you do?  Who are your spiritual authorities and what gives them their legitimacy?  Who decides issues of morality for you, your family and/or your community?

Many of these questions are answered with cultural traditions. Today, you’ll probably be examining whether or not the answers you’re accustomed to are still satisfactory.  They might be or they might not be.  Don’t be afraid to seek out your truth simply because it rubs against your comfort zone.  Sometimes growth hurts a bit.

You might be asked to judge someone else’s dispute, or find the need to go to an authority for answers yourself.  Keep your mind open, but your skepticism on.  Ultimately, you’re the only one who can decide whether something makes sense for your life or not.

Tarot Views on the News at CelebEdge.ca

stars against a cinema curtain

There’s been some exciting news on the home front … last week CelebEdge.ca started posting a celebrity Tarot reading series called Tarot Views on the News.

If that sounds an awful lot like my very own Tarot Views the News, it’s because it’s me doing the readings! Yay!!

In the bite-size video clips, Amy and Sabrina from Sympatico.ca ask me and my cards questions taken from the covers of the latest tabloid magazines.

Important issues like ‘will Kate Middleton get pregnant soon’, or ‘how is Miley Cyrus dealing with the sudden stardom of her beau?’ How about Michelle Williams and Jason Segel … ‘is their romance going to spark’?

The questions might be silly, but the whole thing is a lot of fun. If you like celebrity gossip and Tarot, take a look!

Mercury in Aries – Magician in the Emperor's Clothing

Mercury in Aries, Magician dressed in the Emperor's clothing

Magician As Emperor

Mercury moves into Aries today and will be there until May 9th.

Looking at this transit from a Tarot perspective, it would be like the Magician is wearing the Emperor’s clothes. He’s sitting down and armoured up.

Mercury in Aries, or the Magician in the Emperor’s clothing is a time when speaking your mind might be easier than usual, as long as you don’t force your will onto others while you’re doing it.

It a great opportunity to start solidifying ideas and taking plans to the next step. There’s an energy here that encourages action. And your persuasive powers will be on fire.

With a sharp mind, focused will, and the conviction of your ideals, it might be hard to keep you down.

But don’t go getting bossy, or twisting the facts to suit your purpose. Straight-shooting focus on your own projects and behaviours is the quickest way to build a solid domain.

Moon in Pisces – High Priestess in the Moon's Clothing

April 16th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

High Priestess dressed in the moon's clothing

The Moon moves into Pisces today, and stays there until Wednesday.

Described in Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Moon.

She’s lost her material body and has disappeared into the celestial body that usually rests at her feet.

The Moon in Pisces, or High Priestess dressed as the Moon, is a time of increased perception, ill-defined understanding and what might be described as night vision.

During this time you could find your dreams feel more real than your daylight hours and what’s not said is louder than what is.

Fears might grow like a boogieman under the bed, but if you just take a peek, they’re as likely to be dust bunnies as demons or ghosts.

Be still, aware and fearless. It might be dark outside, but if there was ever a time you can navigate the unknown, this is it. Listen, breathe, flow.

Ace of Disks

Start that new project now!  I know it’s just the beginning and you can hardly see how it’s going to manifest, but manifest it will.  The Ace of Disks is the seed that begins all new physical realities.

Is it a new job?  A novel approach to an old one?  Trying to get a project off the ground?  Starting a new workout or eating regime?

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have all the details yet. What’s important right now is to start working.  Do it with the confidence that it’s going to succeed – in the real world.

All great trips require a first step. This is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.  Take the step and start the journey.
