#9 – The Hermit

You might find yourself wanting to spend some time alone today. It’s probably a good idea. Take time to look within and see what’s up inside your soul.

Have things been moving pretty fast lately? Don’t worry, it’s finally going to slow down a bit, giving you a moment to clean house and tie up loose ends.

Trust your own experience through this period. It’s through an examination of your own personal journey that you’ll discover your inner wisdom. You probably know a lot more then you give yourself credit for. But you might need some silence to notice.

Give yourself permission to be quiet. You won’t be missing anything by taking a break. It’ll only make things more fun when you finally re-emerge from your cave.

Moon in Cancer – High Priestess Dressed as the Charioteer

The High Priestess dressed as the Chariot

The Moon moves into Cancer today, and stays there until Friday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, you might describe it as the High Priestess dressed in the clothing of the Charioteer. She’s left the safety of her pillars and veil, and has hit the road.

The Moon in Cancer, or the High Priestess dressed as the Charioteer, can be a powerful time of comfortable change and emotional resilience.

Knowledge gathered in silence has coalesced and it’s time to share without fear of being hurt.

Emotional loyalty, intuitive direction and strength of character can give you the resolve to go forward. Even into the unknown.

Try not to coddle yourself. You can only win if you have the courage to play to the end.

#17 – The Star

And she’s back! …

Optimism and rejuvenation are the themes for the day.  Active generosity and compassion come easy so don’t hold back.  Give and you will receive.

Embrace the Universe’s capacity to provide you with what you need when you need it most.  That’s what miracles are and the Star is the goddess of miracles.

If things have been tough lately, now’s a time when you can finally lean back and take a bit of a break.  Surround yourself with as much beauty as you can.  It will help to replenish your soul.

Art, music, and the glory of the night sky are all worthy subjects of meditation.  Let them fill you with the inspiration you need for the next leg of your journey.

King of Dollars

King of Pentacles from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

In Tarot, the Suit of Pentacles focuses on themes of the physical world, and often point to questions surrounding work and money.

The King of the suit is typically pictured as a man of wealth and prosperity.

He’s someone who is able to build the world he wants to live in through determined effort and practical thinking.

Though he’s rich, this King truly understands the value of a dollar. His wealth is something to build from, not to foolishly squander.

I thought of the King of Pentacles when I saw this Avant/Garde Diaries video about artist Mark Wagner.

If there’s anyone who understands the value of a dollar …

9 of Cups

What a wonderful day.  You feel open and loving and willing to let the world know – at least if they ask.  You might not feel like running out and embracing everyone you see, but there’s a sense of contentment and well-being that’s impossible to ignore.

This is an excellent time to enjoy and share.  Be generous with your feelings. There’s really nothing to fear in letting people know you care.

Give as you can and laugh out loud as much as possible, even when you’re alone. It may have been some time since you’ve felt this good.  Enjoy. You deserve it.

Moon in Gemini – High Priestess Dressed as the Lovers' Angel

High Priestess as the Lovers’ Angel

The Moon moves into Gemini today and will stay there until Wednesday.

From a Tarot perspective, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Lovers’ Angel. She floats above the naked couple, blessing their sacred union.

The Moon in Gemini, or High Priestess dressed as the Lovers’ angel, can be an emotionally confusing time, one where internal conflicts arise in order to be reconciled.

But it can also be a time of clarity, honest communication and almost intuitive understanding about yourself and those around you.

Quiet faith teams up with commitment and the Angels approve of the whole thing.

Try to keep your emotions in line with your reason. Going too far either way could disturb a really nice balance.

Wheel of Fortune

Do it now!  It’s a fantastic day to get going on whatever project (especially a new one) you’ve been thinking about.  Opportunities abound for you to finally move forward with your plan.

Don’t be afraid if you think you can’t do it?  You’ve been spending plenty of time thinking about it.  Look close, you’ll see you have all you need to make it work.

The only thing that will slow you down is doing things the same old way.  Start fresh now.  You’re ready to go.

A Little Circus Magic

November 17th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

Take a look at this retro-themed Circus deck by Doug Thornsjo called Tarot of the Zirkus Mägi.

Though Thornsjo had long intended to create a deck of his own, this one came about almost by accident.

He was writing a fantasy novel called See Them Dance, in which one of the characters is a telepath and fortune teller. It occurred to him that she needed her own deck, and next thing you know, the Tarot of the Zirkus Mägi was born.

At the moment it’s a limited edition (only 300 will be printed) Majors only deck, but Thornsjo is planning on making it a full 78-card deck soon. I want one!

Watch the video below to see some of the cards, and visit the Tarot of Zirkus Mägi project page to learn more.

Queen of Cups from Georgie's Tarot

Queen of Cups

Queen of Cups

The energy today is full of nurturance and love.  Let yourself give and receive.  Share your feelings, your dreams and what it is that makes you human.  Let your imagination run away with you (while holding on to reality if you can).

The Queen of Cups loves romance and laughter and beauty in all its forms.  Take a leap into your emotional depths.  Don’t be afraid, you won’t stay under too long.  This Queen understands emotional limits – how to push them and how to pull them back gently without hurting anyone’s feelings.

Today would be a great day to enjoy the company of loved ones. Or call or write them – one way or another, be sure they know you care.

Tarot … What Is It Good For?

November 16th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

I asked my cards two questions the other day. ‘What is Tarot good for?’ and ‘What is Tarot not good for?’

For the first question, what Tarot is good for, I got the 3 of Disks.

3 of Disks - Thoth Tarot by Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris

Hmmm … I would have thought it would be something more dramatic – like the Fool, the World, or maybe the Magician, or High Priestess. I didn’t really expect this rather humble card about developing mastery.

But really, isn’t that what Tarot is best for, working on ourselves, trying to actively make our world a little bit better?

3 of Pentacles from the Smith Waite Tarot

The 3 of Disks asks us to care about what we’re doing, on both a physical and spiritual level. It’s a card about step-by-step development, creativity, and the willingness to work hard to achieve something worthwhile.

What a beautiful way to see the cards, as a helper in our work.

4 of Wands from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

Now for the second question, ‘what is Tarot not good for?’; the card I got was the 4 of Wands.

In the Rider Waite Smith deck, this is a card of celebration, which makes me think right away – Tarot’s not really a very good ‘party trick.’

But for this question, the idea in the Thoth version of the 4 of Wands speaks even louder to me.

4 of Wands from the Thoth Tarot by Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris

The key word on the card is ‘completion’, and that’s exactly what the Tarot is not good for – completing things.

It’s not trying to settle all our questions, or give us the final answers to anything. It’s just there to help us figure things out as we go.

Tarot is more like a friend to ask advice of, than a Guru with all the answers.
