Today’s Tarot Card Compare looks at 3 versions of the Fool.
The first card is from The Mythic Tarot by Juliet Sharman-Burke and Liz Greene. The second is from the The Housewives Tarot by Jude Buffum and Paul Kepple. And the third card is from the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot by Arthur Waite and Pamela Colman Smith.
How are themes of freedom, new beginnings, and courage (or foolhardiness) expressed in each image? How are they similar? How is each unique?
Each character looks about to take a leap, but what they’re potentially leaping into feels quite different.

#8 – Justice
Today’s themes are balance and justice. It might be time to stand up or into your own authority by being strong, sure and most importantly, just. This isn’t the time to play around and think you’ll get away with not doing your share. On the other hand, if you do the work required, the Justice energy is happy to reward you.
Have you been playing fair? It’s not so much about the mundane rules as it is about the bigger universal justice. And it’s not necessarily about ‘work’ per se, but rather the energies that you’ve been putting out there. Are you speaking up for what you believe in? Are you taking responsibility for your own life? Do you help others as you might expect them to help you?
What you send out is what you’re likely to get back. This is karma in action and it’s generally quite profound. On days when the Justice card appears, the karmic force is typically more obvious than usual. Look around and see if you can find it.
Take time to rebalance yourself, and if possible, find some time to get out into nature. It usually puts things into perspective pretty fast. Think carefully about your next move. It’s what you’ve already done that has brought you to where you are now. What you do next will determine what you’ll be reaping in your future. Try to make it something good for everyone.
May 20th, 2025 § Comments Off on Moon in Pisces – High Priestess Dressed as the Moon § permalink
The Moon moves into Pisces today and stays there until Saturday.
Described in Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Moon. She’s lost her material body and has disappeared into the celestial body that usually rests at her feet.
The Moon in Pisces, or High Priestess dressed as the Moon, is a time of increased perception, ill-defined understanding and what might be described as night vision.
During this time you could find your dreams feel more real than your daylight hours and what’s not said is louder than what is.
Fears might grow like a boogieman under the bed, but if you just take a peek, they’re as likely to be dust bunnies as demons or ghosts.
Be still, aware and fearless. It might be dark outside, but if there was ever a time you can navigate the unknown, this is it. Listen, breathe, flow.

May 20th, 2025 § Comments Off on Sun in Gemini – Sun in the Clothes of the Lovers’ Angel § permalink
The Sun moves into Gemini tomorrow and will stay there until June 21st.
Through the eyes of the Tarot, this transit is like the Sun is wearing the clothes of the Lovers’ Angel. He’s thrown on a robe and donned some wings.
The Sun in Gemini, or the Sun wearing the clothes of the Lovers’ Angel, is an excellent time to see all sides of a situation. And a good time to keep your mind open wide to inspiration.
When you do make a decision, it’s one that should stick. Or at least, it should be taken seriously.
If there are any issues that need working through, let them out for review. Clarity is at a high and the big picture is easy to see.
Is there something in your life that needs to be united? How about severed? It could go either way, or some way you didn’t expect at all.
Stay flexible, but serious, joyful and sincere. Love and sensitivity flourish as the Sun commits to a brand new season.

#17 – The Star
Optimism and rejuvenation are the themes for the day. Active generosity and compassion come easy so don’t hold back. Give and you will receive.
Embrace the Universe’s capacity to provide you with what you need when you need it most. That’s what miracles are and the Star is the goddess of miracles.
If things have been tough lately, now’s a time when you can finally lean back and take a bit of a break. Surround yourself with as much beauty as you can. It will help to replenish your soul.
Art, music, and the glory of the night sky are all worthy subjects of meditation. Let them fill you with the inspiration you need for the next leg of your journey.

Today’s post is part of a series where I share some observations and/or questions about images in specific cards.
It’s not so much about defining the cards, but rather a series of points you might look at to widen your own interpretation of the images.
Seven Observations/Questions about the Rider-Waite-Smith Moon card …
- The Moon is part of the Major Arcana, and as such, more like a weather pattern moving in than a particular circumstance.
- As #18 in the Major Arcana, its place is towards the end of a long pattern or cycle.
- There are two dogs, one looks a little jackal, or wolf-like, the other has a more domesticated feel.
- Is the crayfish planning to crawl out of the water, or just sit at the edge? And speaking of, why is there a crayfish?
- The path leads right out of the picture. I wonder where it’s going.
- What are the towers guarding? Or are they just a gateway … if so, to where?
- Is the moon in eclipse? What’s flying off it?
And of course, there’s so much more to the images in this card. I encourage you to keep delving.

The reckoning’s done and it’s finally time to dole out the rewards. Have you done your fair share? Are you ready to accept what’s due?
Success is coming to those who have done what they can to manifest their goals. It may seem like manna from heaven but look again – it’s more likely compensation for a job well done.
And don’t forget to thank those who have been helping you. We’re never alone in either our successes or our failures.
May 18th, 2025 § Comments Off on Moon in Aquarius – High Priestess in the Star’s Clothing § permalink
The Moon moves into Aquarius today and stays there until Tuesday.
Described in Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Star. In other words, her robes are gone and she’s naked as the bird in the tree behind her.
The Moon in Aquarius, or High Priestess in the Star’s clothing, can sometimes be emotionally stressful. Hope may be in the air, but it’s a cautious hope.
Emotionally you feel like sharing, bubbling over with dreams for the future. But your mind keeps getting in the way, reminding you that dreams can sometimes be nightmares.
Try not to spend what could be a nice time double guessing yourself or listing off all the reasons things could go wrong. They might. But they probably won’t.
Be real, but not a wet blanket. Rather than smothering your dreams, direct them with intelligence.

Get down to work. Nothing exciting going on, except maybe the chance to get more done than you thought you would.
Follow the template and don’t worry about being particularly innovative today. It’s probably more important to just get it done.
To motivate yourself try remembering that what you’re working on now is setting you up for your future. Put in the effort and it’ll ultimately pay off.
May 17th, 2025 § Comments Off on Niki de Saint Phalle’s Tarot – a deck review § permalink
Today’s pull from Georgie’s Magic Card Collection is brand new to me. It was a gift from a friend who just got back from Italy and a visit to Niki de Saint Phalle’s Tarot Garden. As you may have guessed, it’s the Niki de Saint Phalle Tarot.
Seven Points About This Deck
- Majors Only Deck – The Niki de Saint Phalle Tarot has only 22 cards, the Major Arcana from 0 to 21. But that’s for good reason … see the next point
- Tarot Garden – Each card is based on the Major Arcana figures created by artist Niki de Saint Phalle for her magical Tarot Garden, otherwise known as Il Giardino Dei Tarocchi. It’s a real place with giant sculptures of all the Major Arcana. The garden is located about an hour outside of Rome.
- Card Stock – The actual cards are beautiful to touch and to shuffle. They’re shiny, bright, and not too big, but big enough to show off the gorgeous artwork.
- Artwork – Speaking of artwork – the images are bright, bold, and colourful renditions of the sculptures from the Tarot Garden on a white background … and did I mention they were embossed? Or at least parts of the images are, and all of the titles. It appropriately adds a little sculptural texture to the deck.
- Titles – Some of the titles break from RWS tradition … #6 is called The Choice instead of the more common Lovers. And The Tower is called The Tower of Babel, thus putting more focus on communication then some other Towers might .
- Emperor – The Emperor is a castle, a foundation rather than a man.
- Instruction Booklet – And last but not least, the Little White Book includes notes from Niki herself.
Overall, I love this deck. Its clear, fun, and wise. I know it’s no substitute for actually visiting The Tarot Garden itself, but it’s as close as I can get while sitting in The Tarot Room in Toronto.
…And don’t be surprised if I post some pictures of The Tarot Garden soon, courtesy of my travelling Tarot friend.
