#5 – The Hierophant

Spiritual questions and tradition are highlighted during this period.  It’s probably important to you now to look carefully at the spiritual structures in your life.  Why do you believe what you do?  Who are your spiritual authorities and what gives them their legitimacy?  Who decides issues of morality for you, your family and/or your community?

Many of these questions are answered with cultural traditions. Today, you’ll probably be examining whether or not the answers you’re accustomed to are still satisfactory.  They might be or they might not be.  Don’t be afraid to seek out your truth simply because it rubs against your comfort zone.  Sometimes growth hurts a bit.

You might be asked to judge someone else’s dispute, or find the need to go to an authority for answers yourself.  Keep your mind open, but your skepticism on.  Ultimately, you’re the only one who can decide whether something makes sense for your life or not.

Prince of Cups

You’ll probably be feeling quite loving today.  Emotions are open and flowing and you’re getting along with everyone.

People will likely find you even more attractive than usual, and you them.  But don’t confuse that with getting serious.

Emotions may have been high lately, or at least all over the place. You might find yourself thinking a lot about what in life (and love) truly makes you happy.

It’s a good time to think about it. But don’t worry, there’s no need to make any firm commitments right now.  Just look around you and experience what life has to offer.

3 of Wands

Waiting and watching will probably be a bit of a preoccupation today.   You’ve begun the process and have done all you can for the moment.

This might be a good time to review the steps you’ve taken so far.  Make sure that you’ve got yourself balanced before the real journey begins.

Virtue is likely to be a key concept.  Virtue here means being true to yourself within and between all your layers – mind, body and spirit.

Are your emotions in line with your thinking?  Are you acting in a way that accurately reflects you’re beliefs and feelings?  Explore these questions and relax.  Your ship will arrive soon.

Today we have a Tarot book review! It’s for a book called Magician and Fool by Susan Wands, published by Spark Press, and distributed through Simon & Schuster.

5 Points About This Book

1. Series: Magician and Fool is the first book in, what for now at least, is a three part series. Following Magician and Fool are High Priestess and Empress, and Emperor and Hierophant. I’m sensing a pattern here … may it continue.
2. Historical Fiction: Though the book is chalk full of real-life characters, the story itself is fiction … but it’s easy to believe in it! I ended up loving the magical Pamela Colman Smith … though the co-creator of my most cherished Thoth Tarot, Aleister Crowley, comes across as far less endearing.
3. Storyline: The overarching theme of Magician and Fool is magic and Tarot. It traces the story of Pamela Colman Smith from childhood through the creation of the Fool and Magician cards from her iconic Tarot deck. But it’s not a biography, more a raucous magical window into what it might have been like creating what was to become the most popular Tarot deck in the world. Not to mention a chance to get to know some of the amazing characters in the fledgling Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and those they hung around.
4. Famous Names Making An Appearance: – Pamela Colman Smith, Arthur Edward Waite, Aleister Crowley, William Butler Yeats, Maud Gonne, Florence Farr, Bram Stoker, William Terriss, Ellen Terry, Henry Irving … and the list could go on.
5. Readability: It’s a page turning magical Tarot adventure story. This book is so fun! Very readable – I love it.

I highly recommend Magician and Fool to Tarot readers and magic enthusiasts of all kinds. And even if you don’t read cards, or care about the Golden Dawn, it’s still a delightful mystical romp. I’m really looking forward to High Priestess and Empress … stay tuned!

#6 – The Lovers

Are there choices to be made?  Decisions you’ve put off for another time?  Well this is the time.  The Lovers card asks us to finally make up our minds – either commit or get out now.

On a personal level, the Lovers reminds us to balance the opposites within ourselves.  Are your ying and yang in sync?  Does your conscious experience compliment your unconscious dream state or do they seem at war?  Are you living a life that satisfies your soul?

Heavy questions, but this is a great day to think about them.  In fact, you might find it difficult not to.

This is a serious commitment you’re thinking about.  To help you make up your mind, ask yourself which direction brings you closer to your soul’s call. You probably already know the answer.
