Venus in Virgo – Empress in the Hermit’s Clothing

Empress as the Hermit - Venus in Virgo

From a Tarot perspective, this transit is like the Empress is wearing the Hermit’s clothing. She’s out in the snow, wearing the robes of a monk.

The Empress is the fertile mother of the deck. She lives in bounty, with rivers flowing, wheat growing, sun shining, and trees towering.

She revels in the beauty of the world, celebrating with joy and enthusiasm. But she’s very aware of how painful it can be as well.

She’s realistic, but unwilling to give in to sorrow for too long. The physical world is the Empress’ gift and she wants it lived in as fully and passionately as it can be.

The Hermit is also realistic, but not nearly as exuberant. He spends most of his time alone, and much of it in the dark.

He’s comfortable there because he’s more concerned with what’s inside than what’s outside.

Sensual pleasure is hardly his first concern, being more interested in the light of the soul than the worldly beauty exposed by the sun.

The Empress is game for all human adventure, but living as the Hermit is less interactive than she normally likes.

And she’d rather be in the daylight without snow at her feet. But as long as she’s there, she’s determined to make the most of it.

Venus in Virgo, or the Empress in the Hermit’s clothing is a good time to examine the parts of yourself you normally keep under wraps.

Take the opportunity to look carefully at the experiences you’ve been accumulating. Shift through your own inner shadows, and be unafraid to face whatever you find.

Compassion towards yourself and others will help heal both fears and sorrows, while introspection can provide creative insight you may not have thought possible.

And with all this seriousness, don’t forget to enjoy yourself. There’s as much to celebrate in the dark as there is in the light.
