My Pendulum Can’t Be Trusted

My Crystal Ball might not be particularly clear when I ask it a question … my pendulum, on the other hand is very clear, and yes or no inquiries are its bread and butter.
Straight forward as it may be though, I’m not sure I can always trust what it has to say … in fact, when I asked it if I could trust it, it gave me a resounding no. But I’ve come to believe that it’s a good gauge of how I feel about something one way or another, and for that it can be quite useful.
And I just love seeing it swing.
My Crystal Ball

I’ve had my crystal ball now for about twenty-five years or so and have never been able to read with it. Very occasionally ideas spark while I gaze inside (I guess that’s part of what ‘reading’ means when scrying), but I’ve never seen a story play out in the mist like you see in cartoons.
But that doesn’t really matter. I like my crystal ball anyway. It’s round, shiny, and reflective, and feels like something a Tarot reader should have. Of course it has nothing to do with Tarot at all, just a lovely part of the expected decor.
The Tarot Room on Bluesky

The Tarot Room has joined Bluesky!
I just joined recently and don’t really know what I’m doing, but I’ll be playing around and seeing what’s up.
And of course, my posts are likely to be focused mostly on Tarot … kind of to be expected.
Anyway, if you’re on Bluesky too … come by and say hello! @thetarotroom.bsky.social

Beyond Divination

Whether you do it for yourself, or get a reading from someone else, having your Tarot cards read is fun, and interesting, sometimes therapeutic, and often validating and motivational. But reading cards isn’t the only thing you can do with them.
Here’s a short list of five non-divining activities you can do with your Tarot cards …
•Creative Prompts – you can draw a card to inspire a storyline, character, picture, landscape … anything for which you might be looking for an extra boost of inspiration
•Meditation/Affirmation – choose a card, either randomly or with intention, to use as a focus for meditation, visualizations, and/or affirmation building. And if you have a vision board … choose one or more cards that align with the goals you’re working towards and add them to the board.
•Spell Casting – choose a card for its symbolic energies to incorporate into your spell work and/or rituals
•Exploration – choose a card (or a few) and head out for a walk – see if you can find elements from the cards you’ve chosen out there in the real world (or like my Tarot Sightings Toronto – don’t even choose a card, just keep your eyes peeled for Tarot archetypes that might be hiding out there in plain sight)
•Art Appreciation – choose a deck and just look through it, carefully and with curiosity, as if you know nothing about Tarot and have never seen the pictures before. Enjoy the artwork, and pay especial attention to the symbology and colours – look them up if you don’t know what they mean. Look them up if you think you do know what they mean … there might be some surprises.
Sigil Generators

You magically inclined readers might already know about this, but I just discovered it … free magic sigil generators!
That’s right, there are magic sigil generators on-line to help you create whatever sigil you want in a matter of seconds – for free.
Now, of course, different people have different methods of creating sigils, and maybe the methods used by the sites I’m linking below are not what you’d be looking for … and/or maybe it’s important in your magic work to create your sigils manually as part of the process.
But if you’re like me, and just want a quick and ‘as-good-as-I-could-ever-make-it’ working symbol for a talisman, or a meditation, or something like that, give one of these sites a try.
You can also ask ChatGPT to whip you something up … but it was ChatGPT that brought sigil generators to my attention in the first place. And the ones made through the generators were much more elegant.
Anyway … if you’re interested, give these sites a try. And please, use your magic with kindness and good will …
Matlock and the Thoth Tarot

I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, but I was watching Matlock the other night. Not the new one even, but the old one. The one with Andy Griffith from the ’80’s.
I’m making this admission here in The Tarot Room because the episode was called The Psychic (season 3, episode 13 with Camilla More).
The story line was fun … a psychic gets a vision that someone would be killed and that she was going to be accused of murder, so she goes to Matlock for defence before the killing even happens.
But it wasn’t the plot that grabbed me. It was that about half-way through, in a scene in an office of a psychic fair, there on the bulletin board were a bunch of cards from the Thoth Tarot.
I got a screenshot …
I haven’t really got anything to say about this sighting, except that I was thrilled to see my favourite deck there on the screen. I don’t see this deck in the wild too often. No comments were made about it, and I don’t think Tarot was even mentioned in the episode, but the cards were there. I liked that.
