#3 – The Empress

Creation and the celebration of the senses are highlighted today.  Art, food, music – anything that inspires our physical and emotional selves will inspire you and be well worth the time.

Nurture yourself and others.  It’ll probably be hard not to.  Nurturance isn’t just a luxury.  You need to maintain and even increase your strength in order to create what you’ve been working on. Eat delicious, healthy foods, surround yourself with beauty, take warm, aromatic baths . . . it’s all part of the Empress’ path to creation.

If you’ve been dealing with issues surrounding motherhood, women, or femininity in general, this would be a great day to take a closer look.  There’s wonderful energy now to help you resolve issues you might have thought irresolvable.

The Empress Was Framed

October 12th, 2012 § 1 comment § permalink

Georgianna with Empress card illustrated by Ivan Minsloff

Take a look the beautiful Tarot card I just got framed!

It’s Ivan Minsloff’s original version of the Empress from the deck he and I have been working on.

The style of our deck has changed considerably since she was first drawn, but her spirit is always at its core.

Now she’s gracing my entranceway and welcoming all who come visit.

I don’t know why it took me so long to get her out of her poster roll and out on display, but I’m so glad I did. I just love her!

The High Priestess and the Empress from The Tabloid Tarot

The High Priestess - The Tabloid Tarot (deck-in-progress) by Georgianna Boehnke

One of my many Tarot-projects-in-progress is the Tabloid Tarot, a celebrity themed deck I started working on at the beginning of the year.

I haven’t managed to get much time to focus on it lately but I think it’s calling me again. I’ve got a growing pile of old magazines, and it’s about time I get to them.

The Empress from The Tabloid Tarot (deck-in-progress) by Georgianna Boehnke

In the meantime though, I thought I’d share two cards I’ve already got started.

They’re the High Priestess and the Empress, two of Tarot’s female heavyweights. Numerically, they follow one another in the deck and I often see them as different sides of the same woman.

In the Tabloid Tarot, that duality is made clear by using images of the beautiful Amber Rose in two different personas – the Ice Blue Fluffed Marshmallow Priestess and the Warm Golden Whipped Cream Empress.

A Mother's Day Tarot Spread

May 12th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

In honour of Mother’s Day tomorrow I came up with a little Mother’s Day spread.

It can be used in relation to your own mother, or to anyone who has been a significant nurturing influence in your life, even a guy.

#3 The Empress from the Smith Waite Tarot

The grand mother in the Tarot is the Empress.

She speaks of creativity, empathy, nurturance, and compassion, traits that can be found in all of us regardless of sex or gender.

But moms seem especially good at mirroring the qualities of the Empress, and my own mom is truly a star.

I can’t thank her enough and I can only wish that everyone might have such an influence in their life.

So thank you Mom!! And to all the Moms out there, thank you!! May your day be filled with flowers, sunshine and lots of love!

Mothers’ Day Spread:

1. What have I learnt from my mother?

2. How might I best incorporate that lesson into my life?

3. How might I acknowledge and or thank my mother for this gift?

4. How can I get in touch with my own maternal nature?

5. How can I share the best of my maternal nature with others?

Music From Nature

April 25th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

In Tarot, the Empress is the mother of the earth, some might even say she’s Mother Earth herself. She represents the creative bounty of our world, the things we can experience through the five physical senses.

#3 The Empress from The Thoth Tarot by Harris and Crowley

She’s abundant, and full, vibrant, and in a constant state of creativity. She’s also associated with bees, at least in the Thoth deck where you see bees buzzing around her blouse.

They represent her power and her connection to the gods.

It’s interesting then to note that Burt’s Bees sponsored the video below by Diego Stocco. It’s called Music From Nature and was made to celebrate Earth Day.

I think Stocco hit the mark – it’s amazing. I can hardly imagine a better way to illustrate in sound, the beauty of the Earth and the Empress herself.
