If you’re in NYC, or Brooklyn in particular, on Thursday, April 20th, head on over to Catland Books, Fashion & Esoterica on Flushing Avenue. My very favourite Marseille reading Tarot poet, Enrique Enriquez will be there presenting his talk –BEAUTIFUL BULLSHIT The Tarot: a cure for common sense.
As described on the Catland Books website …
Tarot images are breadcrumbs that lead our eyes astray. They sabotage the prose of life until it collapses into poetry, while affording us the ability to become imaginary. In a slippery world the tarot makes so that we can only feel steady while standing on a paradox.
If I were in Brooklyn on April 20th, I’d definitely be at Catland Books at 7:30 pm.

Tonight on Beyond Worlds we have a very special treat – two of my favourite Tarot readers, Robert M. Place and Enrique Enriquez are both going to be our guests.
And not only are these Tarot icons going to be on the show, they’re going to be interviewing each other. I can hardly wait to hear what they have to say.
Robert Place of course is the creator of many incredible Tarot decks including the Alchemical Tarot, the Buddha Tarot, the Vampire Tarot, the Tarot of the Saints, and the soon to be released Tarot of the Sevenfold Mysteries.
He’s also the author of multiple books on the histories of Tarot, magic, astrology, and alchemy.
Enrique Enriquez is an inspirational Tarot poet and author of Tarology. He’s also the star of Chris Delio’s most excellent recent Tarot documentary, Tarology: the poetics of tarot.
This is going to be a fun night – I hope you can join us. We’ll be live in the chat room. And if you’d like to call in to listen, the number is (646) 200-0765.

Before and After - Noblet and Flornoy
There’s sad news in the Tarot world with the passing of master card maker and Tarot scholar Jean–Claude Flornoy. He died last week on May 24th in Sainte-Suzanne, France.
Flornoy successfully took on the monumental task of restoring the Marseille Tarot to its original glory. Not just once, but three times.
He was responsible for the faithful restoration of the Nicolas Conver, the Jean Noblet and the Jean Dodal versions of the Tarot of Marseille.
He also worked on some of the majors from Jacques Viéville’s Tarot.
Flornoy had an incredible eye for detail, a deep understanding of the art, history and spirit of the imagery, and a devotion to his work. His contribution to Tarot was enormous.
Jean-Claude Flornoy was a gift to us all, and will be missed.

Enrique Enriquez did a fabulous interview with Flornoy in February 2010. You can read it here.

Tonight on Beyond Worlds we have the most fabulous Enrique Enriquez!
He’ll be talking about the Tarot of Marseille, poetry and what it’s like to be the subject of a feature length documentary.
Enrique’s take on the cards is like no other. He makes flat wood-prints on cardboard come alive like a song.
You won’t want to miss it.
Be there live in the chatroom, or call in (646) 200-0765.

Enrique Enriquez
Enrique Enriquez: Tarology, Exploring the Poetics of the Marseilles Tarot is a documentary in progress by Chris Deleo.
I wrote about it last month, but they’ve released another film clip (scroll down) so I’m writing about it again.
The film focuses on Enrique Enriquez, a New York based poet and tarot reader.
He reads the cards as if they were a book of poetry. In fact, it seems that he reads all of life that way.
As he puts it, ‘Working with the tarot is always about adding poetry to reality or derailing life through poetry.’
It’s hard not to get excited about tarot when Enrique’s describing it. The cards come alive when he looks at them.
This is the first documentary of its kind, and the first full-length film about tarot attempting to get a theatrical release.
In addition to the work being documented with Enrique, the film will also explore other reading styles by introducing viewers to experts throughout the tarot community.
The filmmakers are still looking for investors. Why not be part of tarot history and donate today!
For as little as $10 you’ll get a special thanks in the credits, while for just $500, you can have a personal tarot class with Enrique himself.
There’s lots of goodies available for people who want to help support this project, so go on over to their site and see.
Enrique is going to be joining us on Beyond Worlds Saturday, May 7th. We’ll definitely be talking with him about the film.

Here’s your chance to invest in some tarot history …
Enrique Enriquez: Tarology, Exploring the poetics of the Marseilles Tarot is a documentary in progress by Chris Deleo.
The film focuses on poet and tarot reader, Enrique Enriquez. International speaker, teacher and author, Enrique is passionate about the cards.
He sees their magic everywhere, but isn’t so interested in divination or even intuition. He likes them simply for the pictures they are and the stories they tell.
In addition to the work being documented with Enrique, the film will also explore other reading styles. The filmmakers will be traveling around to interview noted experts and authors throughout the tarot community.
It’s the first documentary of its kind, and the first full-length film about tarot attempting to get a theatrical release.
And it’s looking for investors. Why not be part of tarot history and donate today!
You don’t have to do it just because you’re nice and love tarot and Enrique. You can get a little something for yourself in the bargain.
•$10 donation will give you a ‘special thanks to…’ in the film credits
•$25 donation gives you a ‘special thanks…’ and a special Marseilles tarot card autographed by Enrique Enriquez and the filmmakers
•$50 donation will give you all of the above and an autographed copy of the finished DVD
•$100 donation gets you all of the above and a tarot card reading via email from Enrique Enriquez
•$250 donation will give you all of the above and a very special ‘Producer’ credit in the film
•$500 donation will make you a super star in everyone’s eyes, and you get all of the above, and if you live in New York or can travel there, Enrique Enriquez himself will instruct you in a one on one lesson using the Marseille Tarot.
Doesn’t it make you want to give!
Enrique is going to be joining us on Beyond Worlds Saturday, May 7th. We’ll be asking him all about the film.
