Prince of Cups

You’ll probably be feeling quite loving today.  Emotions are open and flowing and you’re getting along with everyone.

People will likely find you even more attractive than usual, and you them.  But don’t confuse that with getting serious.

Emotions may have been high lately, or at least all over the place. You might find yourself thinking a lot about what in life (and love) truly makes you happy.

It’s a good time to think about it. But don’t worry, there’s no need to make any firm commitments right now.  Just look around you and experience what life has to offer.

You’re in the process of building a new emotional maturity. Enjoy and play friendly.

An Astronaut and the Knight of Cups

Chris_Hadfield_2011

Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield recently published a new book called An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth. I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve been interested in taking a look.

Having seen Hadfield in his broadcasts from space and in television interviews here on earth, I’ve had the impression that he’s not only very intelligent, but also a really good guy who cares a lot about people and making the world a better place.

Knight of Cups from the Smith Waite Tarot

It wasn’t any surprise then when I asked my cards, ‘what is the nature of Chris Hadfield?’ and pulled the Knight of Cups in response.

This Knight is a man on the go. Compassionate and forward moving, he extends love and good will to all he meets. He encourages us to be creative, friendly, and to follow our hearts.

The Knight of Cups is practical though, wearing a suit of armour under his attractive tunic, and if the wings of mercury on his helmet and heels are any indication, he’s quick thinking and actively focused as well.

Like all the Knights in Tarot, the Knight of Cups is actively participating in creating his own life. As part of the Cup family, his particular motivation comes from the heart.

After pulling this card, I did a search for Hadfield’s book. One of the first things I came across was the following quote. It was Hadfield’s answer to a young person asking advice on how to get into a career in space …

“Decide in your heart of hearts what really excites and challenges you, and start moving your life in that direction. Every decision you make, from what you eat to what you do with your time tonight, turns you into who you are tomorrow, and the day after that. Look at who you want to be, and start sculpting yourself into that person. You may not get exactly where you thought you’d be, but you will be doing things that suit you in a profession you believe in. Don’t let life randomly kick you into the adult you don’t want to become.”

The Knight of Cups couldn’t have said it better himself. And it’s good advice for all ages.

A Knight's Quest

Knight of Swords from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

I just love the short film below called 850 Meters produced by Thuristar and written and directed by Joeri Christiaen.

It’s about a young knight seeking fame, fortune, and the love of a princess.

To do so though, this Knight of Cups type needs to become a Knight of Swords. He’s up for the quest, but it’s not exactly what he thought it would be.

The Knight, the Hermit, and the World

Here’s an adorable little film called The Heart of The Matter by Reuben Loane.

It’s about a man who makes a wish that his girlfriend will marry him, and in the process discovers what really makes the world go round.

Though it’s not a Tarot tale, I couldn’t help but see it as the Knight of Cups meeting the Hermit, and learning one of the World’s secrets – to share something precious will bring you infinite return.

(Oh, and also, that apparently, the earth spins with the help of a coin-operated machine run by an old man in the bottom of a well – who knew?)

Surfing and the Knight of Cups

Knight of Cups from the Smith Waite Tarot

Though he doesn’t actually have a cup with him, the video below of surfer Thomas ‘Doc’ Bexon at Van’s Duct Tape Invitational in Noosa, Australia got me thinking of Tarot’s Knight of Cups.

Water is his element and he’s always flowing forward.

Instead of a horse, Doc rides a board, but he’s a Knight all the same – intuitive, strong, and willing to face the wave head on.

Coffee Art and the Knight of Cups

Knight of Cups from the Smith Waite Tarot

In Tarot, the Knight of Cups is often described as sensitive, reflective, and artistic.

He’s typically a sweet, kind, and nurturing soul who likes people and enjoys entertaining.

When I saw the video below of Mike Breach, barista extraordinaire, I couldn’t’ help but think that here we have a perfect example of a Knight of Cups.

Not only is he a soft-spoken artist, who likes drawing people, his medium is the coffee he serves in … what else? Cups!

And there’s a further connection … another characteristic of the Knight of Cups is that he likes to keep moving.

He shares his love then floats on, just like the images in Breach’s foam.

Two Years of Blogging with The Tarot Room

Today marks the 2nd anniversary of The Tarot Room blog! Hip Hip Hooray!!

Knight of Cups from the Smith Waite Tarot

I asked the cards what they thought I should do to celebrate the event, and they offered me up the Knight of Cups.

He’s a sweet Knight on a white horse, intuitive, kind, and active in extending his appreciation and good will to all.

It made me think that I should be actively extending my appreciation, love and good will to all my blog readers – so that’s what I’ll do.

In appreciation of all The Tarot Room readers, from now until November 19th, anyone who books an hour-long reading and mentions this post will get 20% off.

Thank You! And Cheers!! You know it’s champagne in the Knight of Cups cup, and he and I are raising our glasses to you!

*this offer is good for gift certificates too

The Knight of Cups is Crossing Canada

July 15th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Knight of Cups from the Smith Waite Tarot

It’s like the Knight of Cups has come to life!

Vincent Gabriel Kirouac is on a quest to promote valour, chivalry, and all-around good mannered respect among people.

Starting from his hometown of Quebec City, Kirouac is riding his horse, Lionheart, across Canada – and in full Knight’s regalia no less!!

He’s crossing Saskatchewan right now, and from all accounts his message is being well received. At least people seem happy to feed and lodge both him and his horse.

And like Tarot’s Knight of Cups, Kirouac’s message is one of love. He wants to be a model of kindness, integrity, tolerance, and devotion.

He wants to remind everyone to be good to each other, and to show the world that there are plenty of wonderful people everywhere you go.

When he gets to Calgary, Kirouac will have to load Lionheart into a trailer and they’ll cross the Rockies by truck.

But from Richmond, BC, they’ll hit the ground again for the last 30-kilometer stretch to Vancouver’s Stanley Park.

Kirouac is hoping to pick up some fellow Knights for the last leg of the journey. Wouldn’t it be great if he gets a whole legion? I hope he does.
