Tarot Turn (Reversals) Vol 1 by Marcus Katz and Tali Goodwin

I just posted an interview the other day with Marcus Katz, the co-director of Tarot Professionals.

This afternoon, we have the good fortune of interviewing him ourselves on Beyond Worlds.

He’ll be talking with us about some of the Tarot reading methods found in his new book Tarot Face to Face, including using reversals, reading for cynics, creating oracular sentences, exquisite corpses, the Dwayne’s Boomerang Spread, and the Literal Lenormand Method.

Katz will also tell us about his other new book, Tarot Turn (Reversals) Vol. 1.

Also co-edited with Tali Goodwin, Tarot Turn is part of a three volume collaborative effort of 140 different Tarot readers from around the world.

Each reader was given a single card and was asked to write a description of how that card interacts with each of the other 77 cards in the deck.

As can be imagined, it was an enormous project and has manifested in some pretty gigantic books. This first volume alone is 569 pages. It features 3,388 pairings of the Major Arcana – all 22 cards, upright and reversed.

It also includes disaffirmations for all 78 cards, spreads, reading techniques, as well as some mini-essays about reversals from people like Barbara Moore and Robert M. Place.

Join Donnaleigh de LaRose and myself to hear more about this incredible Tarot reference work and how to read Tarot Face to Face.

We’ll be live in the chat room, or you can call in at (646) 200-0765 to listen.

Tarosophy TarotCon 2012

Tarot Professionals has entered the Tarot Conference scene in North America with their first ever Tarosophy TarotCon 2012.

It’s going to be held in Dallas, Texas October 19th-21st.

The line up is pretty incredible – Barbara Moore, Robert M. Place, Ellen Lorenzi-Prince, Bob O’Neil, Carrie Paris, and of course Marcus Katz, founder of Tarot Professionals and Tarot-Town.

In addition to the headline speakers, there’ll also be evening workshops available with luminaries the likes of Mary K. Greer, Enrique Enriquez, Katrina Wynn, and many more.

Dan Donche of the Inappropriate Tarot will be the guest M.C., and Toronto’s own James Wells will be an after-dinner speaker.

It’s sounds just fabulous! Book soon to take advantage of the early-bird specials.

Abiding in the Sanctuary – special first edition

Arthur E Waite

Marcus Katz and Tali Goodwin’s new book about Arthur E Waite’s ‘other’ Tarot deck is finally out, or at least the limited first edition is ready to print.

It’s called Abiding in the Sanctuary: The Waite-Trinick Tarot A Christian Mystical Tarot (1917-1923) and promises to shed light on an important piece of Tarot history.

I posted about the book a while back while it was still in production. It explores the story behind the 23 Tarot images Waite commissioned stained-glass artist J.B. Trinick to create.

There are over 80 colour and black and white plates in the book, commentary on the images, biographies of the main players, and a peek into Waite’s mystical system for spiritual development.

Only 250 copies of this first edition will be made, so it’s kind of special. I decided to treat myself to an early Christmas present and ordered one. I can barely wait to see it.

Hopefully it’ll be published in a mass-market form soon as well. And what I’m really hoping for is a printing of the deck itself.

Waite-Trinick Tarot Book

Arthur Edward Waite from the Coburn Collection

A.E. Waite 1921

Arthur Waite is probably best known for being the ‘Waite’ in the Rider Waite Smith Tarot, one of the most popular decks in the world. But did you know he designed another deck as well?

Between 1917 and 1923, ten years after working with Pamela Colman Smith, Waite commissioned a second set of Tarot illustrations with artist J.B. Trinick as part of The Great Symbols of the Paths.

And though they’re not going to be a deck just yet, these beautiful and rarely seen images are soon to be part of a new book by Marcus Katz and Tali Goodwin.

The book will include high quality images of the 22 Major Arcana, an additional ‘path’ image, some extra variant designs, sketches and previously unpublished commentary by Waite himself.

It will also feature research into the lives of Trinick and others involved in the creation of this deck, as well as an explanation of how the images fit onto the Tree of Life in Waite’s ‘hidden’ set of correspondences.

Goodwin and Katz hope to get it published by the end of this year, and you can help them make that happen.

To help cover the costs of licensing, photography, and printing, they’ve set up an IndieGoGo page and are offering rewards to people who donate. Check them out.

And you can read the amazing story of how this project got started, and how it’s developing on Goodwin’s Tarot Speak Easy blog.

It’s going to be an exceptional book. I’m really looking forward to it, and to the deck that hopefully will follow.

Tarosophist of the Year Award 2010

Beyond Worlds - Tarosophist of the Year 2010

What an incredible honour!! Beyond Worlds has been voted Tarosophist of the Year by the highly esteemed international Tarot association, Tarot Professionals.

Marcus Katz, founder of both Tarot Professionals and the fabulous Tarot Town wrote in the award release:

“Donnaleigh, Storm, Theresa and Georgianna have consistently produced an educational, wide-ranging, contemporary, relevant, fun, accessible, professional and well-produced online radio show for Tarot. Their guests have included Lon Milo Duquette, Rachel Pollack, Mary K. Greer, and I personally discovered how friendly and professional they were as hosts when I appeared on the show during the year.

Donnaleigh’s infectious enthusiasm and courteous questioning gets the best out of every guest, supported by Storm’s sharp wit, Theresa’s no-nonsense approach and Georgianna’s down-to-earth authenticity. As a group, they are the ideal ‘four suits’ of a full deck and demonstrate the diverse heart of the Tarot.”

I’m blown away. And so very grateful to Marcus and Tarot Professionals. And of course, to all of our listeners. It truly would be pointless without you.

My co-hosts Donnaleigh de LaRose, Storm Cestavani and Theresa Reed are three of the best Tarot readers I’ve ever met, not to mention very excellent people.  I feel blessed to be on this Tarot adventure with them.

Thank you all! And thank you to the cards.
