Andrew McGregor of The Hermit’s Lamp recently got together with Tarot designer and scholar Robert M. Place to chat about art, Tarot, and Tarot history. It was a really interesting conversation, and you can hear it here. Take a listen!

And if you like that one, you might want to listen to some of the other great Tarot podcasts from the Hermit’s Lamp. You can see a complete list here. Enjoy!

The Marziano Tarot

May 17th, 2016 § 0 comments § permalink

One of my favourite deck designers has done it again! Robert M. Place has created a brand new Tarot deck based on the oldest known Tarot deck in the world – The Marziano Tarot.

Though no cards from the original deck exist, Place re-created the images based on descriptions from its designer, Marziano da Tortona, as he wrote about the cards back in the 15th Century.

It’s a fascinating story, and if you’d like to learn more, and maybe even order a copy of the deck for yourself, visit the Marziano Tarot project page.

The Hermes Playing Card Oracle

November 13th, 2015 § 0 comments § permalink

Honouring the connection between regular playing cards and divinatory decks like Tarot and Lenormand, Tarot designer extraordinaire, Robert M Place has come up with yet another fascinating new set of cards – The Hermes Playing Card Oracle.

As described by Place in the ‘Little White Book’ that comes with the deck…

The Hermes Playing Card Oracle is … a standard game deck of 52 cards plus two jokers, but with the addition of symbolic images on each card, each providing a divinatory meaning. It can be used for card games, or laid out in the traditional pattern, known as the Grand Tableau, and used for divination.

If you’re interested in seeing the cards, learning more about them, and maybe ordering a deck for yourself, visit the Hermes Playing Card Oracle project page at Indiegogo.

The Alchemical Tarot: Renewed Four

January 21st, 2015 § 0 comments § permalink

Last week I posted about Robert Place’s new New York Lenormand Oracle Cards. In the post, I mentioned that Place is the creator of The Alchemical Tarot, one of my all time favourite decks.

As it turns out, while working on his new Lenormand cards, Place has also been re-working his Alchemical Tarot and is now ready to print a 4th edition of these fabulous cards.

To see the new deck (each of the cards has been reworked and renewed), visit The Alchemical Tarot: Renewed Four project page. There you’ll find images of all the cards, and a description of what’s changed since the last printing.

The New York Lenormand Oracle Cards

January 15th, 2015 § 0 comments § permalink

Robert Place, creator of many many fine Tarot decks, including The Alchemical Tarot and the Tarot of the Sevenfold Mysteries, has lately been putting his talents towards Lenormand decks.

Most recently, he and Rachel Pollack worked together on the absolutely stunning Burning Serpent Oracle. Now, he’s ready to print two more Lenormand decks, both based on a deck from 1884 called The Mystic Cards of Fortune.

Place has recreated the original deck in two versions, one using Lenormand images combined with regular playing card symbols, and a second combining the Lenormand images with Tarot symbols. Together he’s calling them The New York Lenormand Oracle Cards.

To learn more about them, and/or to order copies of these unique decks for yourself, visit Places’ Indiegogo project page. I’ve already ordered mine!

The Burning Serpent Oracle – Rachel Pollack Demonstrates

April 21st, 2014 § 0 comments § permalink

I posted about Robert Place and Rachel Pollack’s Burning Serpent Oracle before, but now there’s a video so I can’t help but post again.

The Burning Serpent Oracle is Place and Pollack’s take on the classic Lenormand deck, a deck not unlike Tarot, but with only 38 cards, and a very standardized (though still quite magical) method of reading.

In the video below, Rachel Pollack talks about the Lenormand deck and its history, as well as how to actually read with it, using The Burning Serpent Oracle to demonstrate.

If you’re interested in ordering a deck of your own, the Burning Serpent Indiegogo campaign is still on until Thursday. Visit the project page to learn more.

Take a look at this fantastic IndieGoGo project! Robert M. Place and Rachel Pollack’s brand new Burning Serpent Oracle!

Two of my favourite Tarot teachers and deck designers have come together to create, not a Tarot deck, but a new set of Lenormand cards.

Place is responsible for the artwork on all forty of these beautiful cards, while Pollack has written the 260 page book that accompanies the deck.

I can hardly wait to get my copy! Go to the Burning Serpent Oracle project page to learn more, and maybe to order a copy for yourself.

Beyond Worlds with Robert M. Place and Enrique Enriquez

September 9th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Tonight on Beyond Worlds we have a very special treat – two of my favourite Tarot readers, Robert M. Place and Enrique Enriquez are both going to be our guests.

And not only are these Tarot icons going to be on the show, they’re going to be interviewing each other. I can hardly wait to hear what they have to say.

Robert Place of course is the creator of many incredible Tarot decks including the Alchemical Tarot, the Buddha Tarot, the Vampire Tarot, the Tarot of the Saints, and the soon to be released Tarot of the Sevenfold Mysteries.

He’s also the author of multiple books on the histories of Tarot, magic, astrology, and alchemy.

Enrique Enriquez is an inspirational Tarot poet and author of Tarology. He’s also the star of Chris Delio’s most excellent recent Tarot documentary, Tarology: the poetics of tarot.

This is going to be a fun night – I hope you can join us. We’ll be live in the chat room. And if you’d like to call in to listen, the number is (646) 200-0765.
