Drawing Tarot

This looks like it would have been fun … back at the end of September, the Seacoast Drink ‘N’ Draw group got together at the Port Tavern in Newburyport, Massachusetts to do a Tarot edition of their monthly Drink ‘N’ Draw events.

You can watch the video below to see how it went. And if you’re in the Newburyport area and would like to take part in other Drink ‘N’ Draw events (even if they’re not about Tarot), visit the Seacoast Drink ‘N’ Draw website to learn more.

There’s only one day left in this Kickstarter campaign, but I thought I’d post it anyway because the show it’s supporting sounds fabulous!

If you’re in London (England) in early July, get down to the Crypt Gallery on Euston Road … ARCANA: An Exhibition of Tarot is going to be great.

Watch the video below, and/or visit the exhibition project page to learn more …

Art, Tarot, and Climate Change

Though Brooklyn-based artist, James Leonard, has been touring with his Tent of Casually Observed Phenologies since last year, I’ve just heard about it recently. And though I’m slow to the party, I think Leonard’s art installation using divination to open personally meaningful one-on-one discussions about Climate Change is absolutely brilliant.

Take a look at the video below to hear Leonard talk about the project himself. And to learn more about it, and to find out where he and his tent will be next, visit Leonard’s website at jamesleonard.org and/or his Facebook Page.

Andrew McGregor of The Hermit’s Lamp recently got together with Tarot designer and scholar Robert M. Place to chat about art, Tarot, and Tarot history. It was a really interesting conversation, and you can hear it here. Take a listen!

And if you like that one, you might want to listen to some of the other great Tarot podcasts from the Hermit’s Lamp. You can see a complete list here. Enjoy!

Video Tarot

June 5th, 2014 § 0 comments § permalink

Video Tarot, by Rees Steel, is an art installation involving five CRT televisions, five VCRs, and 22 unmarked VHS tapes.

Each tape contains images associated with a particular Major Arcana card, and participants are asked to choose five of them for a personal screening/reading.

All five tapes are played simultaneously, with each screen representing a different facet of a situation – past, present, influences, action, and resolution.

I don’t know where Video Tarot is showing, but I’d sure like to try it out. What a great idea!

Tarot Under Oath

February 16th, 2014 § 0 comments § permalink

It’s been up since the end of January, but I just came across this NYC Tarot art show the other day while visiting the fabulous Phantasmaphile website.

Curated by Aunia Kahn, the show is called Tarot Under Oath and features pieces by 22 artists, each inspired by one of the 22 cards in the Major Arcana.

Tarot Under Oath hangs until March 1st at Last Rites Gallery in New York City, but if you can’t get there in person, visit their website to see all the images.

A book with artwork and artist statements will be available at the show. I wish there was a deck too.

Hive Tarot V

I posted about the Hive Tarot V show back in January, but since I wasn’t in Los Angeles, I wasn’t able to actually see it for myself.

Fortunately for me, and those others who missed the show, Daisuke Okamoto posted this video of the event.

Take a look. Some of the images are simply fabulous!

The Elora Tarot Project is in Toronto

January 7th, 2014 § 0 comments § permalink

I mentioned it a while back, but now it’s actually happening … the Elora Tarot Project is coming to Toronto.

The Elora Tarot Project is the brainchild of Shelley Carter who, after a trip to Italy in 2011, came home to Elora, Ontario inspired to create a ‘made in Elora’ Tarot deck.

She gathered some of her artist friends together and they liked the idea too. Next thing you know, the deck was born.

You can see it online at the Elora Tarot Project website. But if you’re lucky enough to be in the Toronto area from January 9th through the 12th, you can see it in person.

All 78 artworks will be on display in the 2nd floor gallery of the beautiful old Gladstone Hotel. Though the show will already be hanging a few days earlier, the reception for the event will be held on Saturday, January 11th from 7 to 10pm.

Hope to see you there!!
