Wheel of Fortune

Do it now!  It’s a fantastic day to get going on whatever project (especially a new one) you’ve been thinking about.  Opportunities abound for you to finally move forward with your plan.

Don’t be afraid if you think you can’t do it?  You’ve been spending plenty of time thinking about it.  Look close, you’ll see you have all you need to make it work.

The only thing that will slow you down is doing things the same old way.  Start fresh now.  You’re ready to go.

Mercury in Aries – Magician in the Emperor's Clothing

Mercury in Aries, Magician dressed in the Emperor's clothing

Magician As Emperor

Mercury moves into Aries today and will be there until March 23rd when it retrogrades back into Pisces.

Looking at this transit from a Tarot perspective, it would be like the Magician is wearing the Emperor’s clothes. He’s sitting down and armoured up.

The Magician is a man to get things started. With clear focus he can manifest the world out of nothing.

He’s quick thinking, fast moving, and a lightening rod for inspiration.

Communication is one of the Magician’s specialties. He’s silver tongued and unconventional. He can convince you of anything, and usually it’s true.

The Emperor, on the other hand, isn’t so concerned with verbal persuasion. He’s more apt to use brute force to convince you, though he’d rather you just agree.

He’s a natural leader, strong, straightforward, and sure. He knows what he wants, and accepts nothing less.

The Emperor’s a man of action, determination, and passion. He doesn’t just get things started, he makes them happen.

The Magician feels a little constrained in this position, but he enjoys the Emperor’s authority and is happy to take the throne for a while.

Mercury in Aries, or the Magician in the Emperor’s clothing is a time when speaking your mind might be easier than usual, as long as you don’t force your will onto others while you’re doing it.

It a great opportunity to start solidifying ideas and taking plans to the next step. There’s an energy here that encourages action. And your persuasive powers will be on fire.

With a sharp mind, focused will, and the conviction of your ideals, it might be hard to keep you down.

But don’t go getting bossy, or twisting the facts to suit your purpose. Straight-shooting focus on your own projects and behaviours is the quickest way to build a solid domain.

Moon in Cancer – High Priestess Dressed as the Charioteer

The High Priestess dressed as the Chariot

High Priestess in Chariot's Clothing

The Moon moves into Cancer today, and stays there until Sunday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, you might describe it as the High Priestess dressed in the clothing of the Charioteer. She’s left the safety of her pillars and veil, and has hit the road.

The Moon in Cancer, or the High Priestess dressed as the Charioteer, can be a powerful time of comfortable change and emotional resilience.

Knowledge gathered in silence has coalesced and it’s time to share without fear of being hurt.

Emotional loyalty, intuitive direction and strength of character can give you the resolve to go forward. Even into the unknown.

Try not to coddle yourself. You can only win if you have the courage to play to the end.

#5 – The Hierophant

Spiritual questions and tradition are highlighted during this period.  It’s probably important to you now to look carefully at the spiritual structures in your life.  Why do you believe what you do?  Who are your spiritual authorities and what gives them their legitimacy?  Who decides issues of morality for you, your family and/or your community?

Many of these questions are answered with cultural traditions. Today, you’ll probably be examining whether or not the answers you’re accustomed to are still satisfactory.  They might be or they might not be.  Don’t be afraid to seek out your truth simply because it rubs against your comfort zone.  Sometimes growth hurts a bit.

You might be asked to judge someone else’s dispute, or find the need to go to an authority for answers yourself.  Keep your mind open, but your skepticism on.  Ultimately, you’re the only one who can decide whether something makes sense for your life or not.

Edible Arcana

tin can without label

Unfortunately, I missed it, but the Psychic Cooking Show by David Frankovich, part of the One on One series at Toronto’s Rhubarb Festival last month, sounds like it was fantastic!

I’ve written before about divination with food. There was the tortilla reading with Jorge Rojas, and more recently Jemima Packington reading asparagus.

But Frankovich has his own technique, and it’s directly connected to the Tarot. He creates his deck out of canned goods, selecting each item for its correspondence to a Major Arcana card.

For instance, in one performance, he chose baked beans to represent Death, a nod I’m guessing to the putrification process inherent in transformation.

After making all his selections, he removes the labels from the 22 cans so that no one knows what’s inside.

Then as in any Tarot reading, he asks his querant to choose their cans. He opens them up, reads them as you might cards, then cooks up a meal using those particular ingredients.

It’s a brilliant idea, combining the rituals of reading with eating.

By ingesting your reading, you’re literally taking it in, making it physically part of you, not just something you see or hear.

All the senses are involved. You see it, hear it be described and can listen to it cook. You smell it, touch it with you mouth, and taste it. It’s like the Empress herself is reading for you.

I know Frankovich meant this as a performance piece, but I wish he’d offer his readings to the general public. I’d love to get one. And it’s always a pleasure to have someone cook for me.

Page of Cups

Sweetness abounds when the page of cups is around.  This is a great day to communicate emotions – enthusiastically and without censor, especially to those you love.

There’s a lightness in the air and the sense that something new could be starting.  And it just might be.

It’s good to remember though, that there’s no need for you to commit to anything serious right now.  It’s still the time of freshness and beginnings.  Becoming heavy now would only dampen what’s still just growing.

Express yourself and let your imagination wander.
