George Bernard Shaw, Mistakes, and the 7 of Disks

George Bernard Shaw is quoted as saying,

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.”

While thinking about this idea, I decided to ask my deck, “what card might express Shaw’s thought best?”

7 of Disks - Thoth Tarot by Lady Frieda Harris and Aleister Crowley

The card I got was the 7 of Disks, which in the Thoth deck is called ‘failure.’ How perfect.

This seven is all about persevering through our mistakes, and our fears of making more.

It’s about not giving up, but continuing on with courage, even when there’s no guarantee that we’ll succeed.

The 7 of Disks and Shaw’s quote are both great reminders that though mistakes can suck (and not all of them do), there really is no learning, or living, without them.
