#0 – The Fool

This is a great day to take the leap and do something different.  It might seem crazy and you have no idea how it’s going to turn out, or maybe even how you got on this path in the first place, but here you are.  It’s time to make your move and do so without fear.

The Fool card isn’t telling you to be an idiot, but rather to stop double thinking yourself all the time and worrying that every single thing is in order before you can make a move.

Life isn’t really that logical.  There’s no way to prepare for all eventualities, no matter how smart you are.  Do what you can and let the universe take care of the bigger story.

Fool Around the World

June 27th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

#0 The Fool from the Smith Waite Tarot

In Tarot, the Fool is commonly numbered zero and is most often regarded as the first card in the Major Arcana.

He can represent new beginnings, setting out on a journey, and/or just enjoying oneself without inhibition.

#21 The World from the Smith Waite Tarot

The World card on the other hand, is typically numbered 21, and is found at the end of the Major Arcana.

As such, it reflects completion, accomplishment, and the unity of the whole.

By the time we get to the World in Tarot, we’ve done a full cycle and are ready to start again.

The video below represents the second time round the world for Matt Harding who was a sensation back in 2008 for dancing around the globe.

He’s back with a new installment and it looks like this Fool has got the whole World dancing again …

Lego Man in Space and the Fool's Journey

April 13th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Here’s a kind of crazy video that got me thinking about the Tarot.

You may have seen it on the news a few months back, and if you were in Canada, it would have been hard to miss.

Some guys decided to send a Lego man carrying a Canadian flag up into the cosmos. They built both the little man and the rocket that shot him 80 miles into the sky.

The Lego man was attached to a camera so his voyage was recorded and is quite nice to watch.

It was the images of the Earth from space that reminded me of the Tarot, and the World card in particular.

The World card represents movement beyond the boundaries of everyday existence into a further dimension.

It also represents the end of a long journey, one that ultimately leads right back to earth, and in Tarot, back to the Fool who starts the trip all over again.

The little Lego man is a perfect metaphor for this journey.

Not only is he made up of little components that can be rearranged just like a deck of cards. He’s a tiny Fool who leaps into the sky till he reaches beyond the earth, only to fall back again to start all over.

I like it.

A Fool on a Motorbike

#0 The Fool from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

I’ve posted before about some guys riding bicycles down a mountain and how they reminded me of the Fool card in the Tarot.

Well today I have another example, almost just like it, but not quite. In this one the lone rider is on a motorbike and the mountain is covered in snow.

He literally rides along the icy precipice as if it’s the most natural thing in the world.

Like the Fool from the card, he’s sure he’s going to be okay, even as he heads towards the edge of a cliff. His only concern is finding something new and being free.

Fortunately, the rider in the video is safe, and never takes the Fool’s leap.

And though I think he’s crazy, I have to admit, the view from the ledge is incredible.

Fools on Bikes

There might be three of them, and there’s no little dog, but these guys certainly got me thinking of the Fool from Tarot’s Major Arcana.

The clip below shows Loschi, Pauli, and Jello enjoying an extraordinarily risky bike ride down a mountain.

And they make it look almost relaxing.

Like the Fool who doesn’t seem concerned at all that he’s headed for the ledge, these three men seem sure the Universe is going to look after them.

And apparently it did.
