Mercury in Taurus – Magician in the Hierophant's Clothing

Magician in the Hierophant's Clothing

Magician as Hierophant

Mercury moves into Taurus today, and stays there until June 2nd.

Translated into Tarot, this transit would be like the Magician is wearing the Hierophant’s clothing. He’s replaced his light robes for heavy holy vestments.

The Magician communicates, directs, and initiates. He’s quick, inventive and inspirational.

His speed of thought and unique perspective makes up for lack of consistency. Overly structured paradigms only dampen his creative brilliance.

The Magician relishes freedom, sunlight and the opportunity to start something fresh. He works outside and likes to have as many tools at his disposal as possible.

The Hierophant also communicates, directs and initiates. But he does it from a place of structured morality, a throne and a church.

He likes to be in charge, and sees his role as conductor of the faith. Consistency and tradition are essentials.

Unless it comes from the Hierophant himself, anything new should be questioned. Anything outside the box should be brought in.

Mercury in Taurus, or the Magician wearing the Hierophant’s clothing is a time when communication might take a turn towards the spiritual, and the rules of morality.

Tradition, faith, and religious world views are all open for discussion and some conflict might be expected between new ideas and old.

This is a period when it’s not good enough to just say one thing, then jump on over to the next. You might be asked to stop and focus.

Say for real what you believe. And don’t fall for, or become, a trickster guru.

Take this opportunity to review what you have faith in. Look at it from all sides and be willing to play with the ideas.

New life can be pumped into stale old structures, and solid traditions can offer grounding to inspiration.

Moon in Scorpio – High Priestess in Death's Clothing

May 15th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

The High Priestess in Death's ClothesThe moon moves into Scorpio today and stays there until Tuesday.

If you translate this transit into the Tarot, you could say that the High Priestess is dressed as Death. She’s in the midst of a great transformation.

The Moon in Scorpio, or High Priestess in Death’s clothing, suggests a time when feelings run deep. The ability to end relationships that don’t work, or release stagnant emotions is accentuated.

If there’s a situation in your life that’s nearing its completion, especially if it’s emotional or relationship-oriented, this might be a good time to let it go. At least explore it with emotional clarity.

This isn’t a time to be afraid, but rather a time to face your fears with equanimity and intelligence.

You’ve got what it takes. Don’t back down from the scary stuff.

#11 – Strength

Learn to direct your inner wildness during this period of fiery intensity and your personal power is likely to grow.  Innocence and purity work together to balance your passion with wisdom.

Explore ways to act assertively but without aggression.  The gentle touch might go a lot further than a loud voice or an impetuous rage.

It’s a very creative time and you’re encouraged to allow yourself room to flourish.  Don’t be shy.  This is the moment to take action and move forward with plans you may have held off on until now.

It's In the Cards – cabaret show in Seattle

It's In the Cards Press release image

This looks fun …

It’s In the Cards is a cabaret show in Seattle that wants to take audiences on a Fool’s Journey.

Jayne Muirhead and John Engerman have blended the oracular with the musical.

Using Tarot, palmistry, and astrology as their themes, they’ve turned divination into a cabaret.

Before each performance, the audience will be given an opportunity to submit questions. And some of them will get answers.

Not to mention, Muirhead and Engerman will be making some inquiries of their own.

Why are we here? Why art? Why do fools fall in love? Why suffer?

Big questions. But not too big for the cards or the cabaret.

Shows run June 3-4, and 10-11 at ACT.

If I were in Seattle, I’d go.

4 of Wands

Gather and celebrate!  It’s a day to enjoy what you’ve been working on.  The project might not yet be finished, but at least you’re on your way. Well done!  You have reason to smile.

Follow your passion and create from the heart. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how it will all turn out, just keep at it. The hard work’s been paying off, and you can take a moment to enjoy before heading on to the next step.

But don’t forget, you probably aren’t doing all the work yourself.  Share the glory or you’ll be hearing about it later.

Alejandro Jodorowsky's El Topo and The Holy Mountain

The Films of Alejandro Jodorowsky

If you’re a Tarot reader, you probably know that Alejandro Jodorowsky is a Tarot master.

He’s the author of The Way of Tarot and Psychomagic, helped restore the Tarot of Marseille and regularly speaks about the Tarot and its symbolism.

But he’s better known throughout the world for his films.

The 1970’s classics, El Topo and The Holy Mountain, are two especial fan favourites. Both are surreal classics dripping in occult symbolism.

Until 2007, neither were available in North America or the UK.

Last month, the Blu-ray version of The Films of Alejandro Jodorowski was released. It includes both films and special goodies like:

Holy Mountain original theatrical trailer
Holy Mountain deleted scenes with commentary by Alejandro Jodorowsky
The Tarot with commentary by Alejandro Jodorowsky
Holy Mountain restoration process
•Feature commentary by Alejandro Jodorowsky
•English, French, Spanish, Brazilian, and Portuguese Subtitles

It’s already available as a DVD box set, but this new release gave me an excuse to post the fabulous trailer for El Topo

Moon in Libra – High Priestess in Justice's Clothing

The High Priestess in Justice's Clothing

High Priestess as Justice

The Moon moved into Libra today, and will stay there until Sunday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, it would be like the High Priestess is wearing Justice’s clothing. She takes on the mantle of the Karmic Decider.

With the High Priestess as Justice, or the Moon in Libra, we might be required to face up to something and decide.

Our emotions will demand respect. If we’ve leaned too far back or forward, we’ll probably find ourselves moving just as dramatically the other way.

It can be a slightly challenging period, perhaps a little manic. But by the time it’s done, something is likely to have been decided upon.

Don’t be alarmed by conflicting emotions. They’re there because you can see both sides. It’s not good enough though to just acknowledge them and walk away.

During this transit you’re being asked to take a stand one way or another. And you’ve got the wisdom and power to do so.

#18 – The Moon

Things might seem a little dark today but don’t despair.  It’s always night before it’s day.  The moon card represents this darkness before dawn.

You might be challenged to face your fears, or at least name them so you can see whether they’re really as powerful as all that.  Things often seem a lot scarier in the dark than they do the next day.

Try taking some time today to really explore those things that you usually shy away from.  Psychic energy is especially strong and it will be well worth your while to find some silence and listen carefully to your inner voice.

Secrets and mystery, hazy half-truths – they’re all part of the moon’s power.  How you feel might prove to be more informative than what you see.   Pay attention to the shadows, it’ll be light soon.

Paranthropology

May 12th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Here’s a great resource ….

Paranthropology: Journal of Anthropological Approaches to the Paranormal. It’s a newsletter put together by Jack Hunter, a graduate student of Archeology and Anthropology at the University of Bristol.

As stated in the masthead, it’s meant to “provide a platform for the dissemination of new research and ideas pertaining to anthropological approaches to the study of paranormal beliefs, associated practices and phenomena.”

In other words, they’re looking at the paranormal from an anthropological perspective.

Though the focus is anthropological, they branch into psychology, parapsychology, sociology, folklore and history.

Articles include titles like ‘The Therapeutic, Ethical and Relational Dynamics of Mediumship and Psychic Consultations‘, ‘Ethnographic Encounters with the Paranormal,’ and ‘Clairvoyance, Class & Convention‘. The theme of April’s issue is ‘PSI & the Psychedelic Experience.’

It’s great. And despite some occasionally wordy titles, very readable.

Even better, it’s available for free download.

Take a look!

#4 The Emperor from Georgie's Tarot

#4 The Emperor

Thursday, May 12, 2011
#4 – The Emperor

You can expect a day of fiery energy and powerful determination.  In whatever you do today, you’re encouraged to do it with strength and creativity – in fact it would be hard not to.  Within your domain you’re the one in charge, so manifest your will.

What have you been wanting to create in your world?  Start making it really happen!

While you’re encouraged to take your power and run with it, there is a challenge associated with the Emperor.  Remember – not everyone might want to do things your way.  Everyone thinks they’re right.

Sometimes you have to give a little.  If you don’t, don’t be surprised if other people start rearing their own Emperor energy and you’re smack dab in the middle of a fight.

Masculine energy is strongly indicated with the Emperor card and issues surrounding males, especially those in authority are likely during this time.  Stay strong and true and you won’t go wrong.
