Spiritual questions and tradition are highlighted during this period. It’s probably important to you now to look carefully at the spiritual structures in your life. Why do you believe what you do? Who are your spiritual authorities and what gives them their legitimacy? Who decides issues of morality for you, your family and/or your community?
Many of these questions are answered with cultural traditions. Today, you’ll probably be examining whether or not the answers you’re accustomed to are still satisfactory. They might be or they might not be. Don’t be afraid to seek out your truth simply because it rubs against your comfort zone. Sometimes growth hurts a bit.
You might be asked to judge someone else’s dispute, or find the need to go to an authority for answers yourself. Keep your mind open, but your skepticism on. Ultimately, you’re the only one who can decide whether something makes sense for your life or not.
Celebrate with enthusiasm! Today is for fun and sharing. Friends are at the forefront, especially the ladies in your life. Good times, good friends, good drink – it could be a pretty excellent day. Don’t be afraid to be happy and remember to let people know how much you like them.
Take delight in music, poetry, painting – this is a time of inspiration and creativity. Social interaction with others will be invigorating and fruitful. Let yourself get carried away by laughter and joy. Seek out the beautiful within yourself and those around you. You won’t be disappointed if you do.
Spiral Light of Venus is a mixed media performance art project inspired by the Tarot.
Through film, spoken word, music and movement, these Boston artists are using the Major Arcana to reflect various stages of a journey, rites of passage and influences from the natural world.
Presently they’re focusing on themes surrounding the Fool, Magician, Empress, Chariot, Death, the Tower, the Moon and the Star.
If you’re an artist and/or Tarot-loving Bostonian who’d like to take part in the project, this is your chance. Perform, submit artwork or just get involved.
All ages are welcome to audition and/or submit work for consideration. And no previous knowledge of Tarot is necessary.
If you have a story, poem, dance piece, short film, or painting that relates to one of the themes above, contact Margaret McGilvray.
She’s also looking for grafitti artists, sculptors, and performance artists to create live on-stage during the show.
It’s scheduled for March 2011. If you want to be part of it, act now!!
Here’s a couple of slideshows Margaret put together. The first is a collection of Fool cards. The second is full of Moons.
This is a great day to even things out. Balance and temperance are the energies surrounding you now. Can you bring your physical world into harmony with your emotional state? Temperance is about that perfect mix, neither too much nor too little. It’s about becoming conscious of what you want to be both inside and out and courageous enough to try to be that.
You are responsible for any healing you might need. The first step is to acknowledge what might be out of balance and then start readjusting. Sometimes it’s about finding a new way to meld your internal opposites; sometimes it’s about casting out what no longer works. In all cases though, it’s about being true to your self and connecting to the grander universe.
Try asking an angel for some help today. You might be surprised at the result.
The first I got was the 5 of Swords. This is about conflict. Winning the battle, but losing the war.
Defeat is the key word on the Thoth Tarot’s version. A defeat that comes from forcing your way, leaving no options but yes or no.
3 of Swords
Next was the 3 of Swords. Sorrow. This is one of the most painful cards in the deck. It’s deep sadness, carried in the heart and too often in silence.
After that came #13, Death. What’s there to say here except that the Fool carries one scary satchel!
#13 - Death
The final card I drew was the 8 of Disks. There’s nothing overtly disturbing about this card. In fact it can sometimes be quite pleasant.
Given what else was in the bag, however, I can’t help but read it as tedium.
It’s the work you have to do but really don’t want to. A reminder that nothing good comes without some effort.
8 of Disks
Why would the Fool carry these things around? He’s such a lighthearted guy and has such a small bag. Why fill it with the hard stuff?
Maybe part of the answer lies in what’s in his other hand. It’s a white flower, symbol of purity, openness, unsullied ideals.
It’s the colour of the dog beside him, free, enthusiastic and running on instinct.
He holds the flower playfully with his fingers, touching it directly. These energies are how he expresses himself to the outside world.
The dark stuff is hidden in a bag at the end of a pole, slung over the side we don’t see. It’s in the deep recesses of his subconscious, not even connected directly to him.
What’s in the satchel balances out the flower, could be its shadow. Notice that the bag and the flower are both directly below the sun.
I was surprised by what the Fool carries around, but with some reflection it makes a lot of sense. The seed of all things is part of what he stands for.
Though innocence, openness and the ideal are at the forefront, conflict, pain and tedium are part of life as well.
On a more positive note, you could also think of the Fool’s satchel as a medicine bag. He’s carrying around a bit of the bad stuff in case he needs it as an antidote.
Either way, now that I’ve taken a peek inside, I’m thinking it’s probably best to just keep this satchel closed.
