Psychic Helps Locate Soldier's Disk

July 31st, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

A Swiss clairvoyant made the news last week when she helped locate a Swiss Army officer’s lost USB storage device.

It was a USB flash drive type thing being used to store transmission codes. He lost it while on exercises at military barracks in Columbier.

According to The Local, after searches turned up nothing, a colleague suggested that the officer contact a clairvoyant for help. Apparently he did, and she told him he’d lost the device while he was urinating.

And that’s just where they found it, in a bush by where the officer had relieved himself. A psychic hit!

The story sounds made up. A peeing soldier, lost secret codes and an unnamed seer… unlikely. But who knows, it could be true. And if it’s not, I like it anyway.

Moon in Leo – High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

The High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

High Priestess as Strength

The Moon moves into Leo today and stays there until Tuesday.

Translated into Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is wearing Strength’s clothing. She’s thrown off her heavy cape and is spending some time outside with her lion.

The Moon in Leo, or High Priestess in Strength’s clothing is potentially a time of emotional power. Something beautiful that’s usually under wraps can finally be revealed.

The silence is broken. Quiet wisdom and passion can be united. During this time, it might be difficult to keep your ideas to yourself. But why should you?

Try finding an outlet for plans you’ve been sitting on? This is an opportunity to shine if you’re not over-burdened by self-consciousness.

It might feel a little uncomfortable at first, but letting your wilder side out right now could be positive. The sun isn’t always shining. Take advantage of it when it does.

2 of Wands

This is a day for looking forward.  You’ve got some time and you’re in a good position to look around and see what you want to do next.  The world is literally in your hands and it’s up to you to decide the next move.

What is it that makes you feel most in control of your domain?  What is it that makes you feel you’re really doing what you’re supposed to be doing?

Don’t rush this – it takes some serious consideration.  Use this time to start getting a grip on your destiny.  You’re in charge of this one.  Don’t be afraid to take control.  Your option is to let someone else.

It's Hard Not To Believe

July 30th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Are humans predisposed to believing in supernatural beings or the after-life? According to The Cognition, Religion and Theology Project, yes we are.

As described in Science Daily, the research concludes ‘that humans are predisposed to believe in gods and an afterlife, and that both theology and atheism are reasoned responses to what is a basic impulse of the human mind.”

The three-year international research project was led by psychologist Dr. Justin Barrett from the Centre for Anthropology and Mind at Oxford University.

It involved 57 researchers conducting over 40 studies, in 20 countries, representing a diverse range of cultures.

They weren’t trying to prove or disprove the existence of god, the afterlife or anything supernatural. They were simply looking at whether such concepts are taught or innate to our make-up.

Put another way, is it nature or nurture that makes us believe in magic and religion?

Findings from the research will be published in two books by Barrett – Cognitive Science, Religion and Theology, and Born Believers: The Science of Childhood Religion.

Project Co-Director Professor Roger Trigg has also written a book called Equality, Freedom and Religion, where he applies the research to questions surrounding morality and the freedom of religion.

I look forward to all three books, and any others that might come out of this work.

#3 – The Empress

Creation and the celebration of the senses are highlighted today.  Art, food, music – anything that inspires our physical and emotional selves will inspire you and be well worth the time.

Nurture yourself and others.  It’ll probably be hard not to.  Nurturance isn’t just a luxury.  You need to maintain and even increase your strength in order to create what you’ve been working on. Eat delicious, healthy foods, surround yourself with beauty, take warm, aromatic baths . . . it’s all part of the Empress’ path to creation.

If you’ve been dealing with issues surrounding motherhood, women, or femininity in general, this would be a great day to take a closer look.  There’s wonderful energy now to help you resolve issues you might have thought irresolvable.

The Art of Japanese Tarot

July 29th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Talk about a giant Tarot collection – as of this past March, Adam McLean has over 2,000 decks. That’s a lot.

But he shares. He’s got a list of his fabulous collection online, and has been working on a Tarot database of some of his Japanese, Taiwanese and Chinese decks. It’s pretty incredible.

And by the looks of it, Tarot is kind of a sideline to his alchemy work. If you’re interested in alchemy, you should definitely visit his site.

He had a show back in 2009 called The Art of Japanese Tarot, held at the Mackintosh Gallery of the Glasgow School of Art, and curated by Ronnie Heaps.

The show featured the Japanese part of McLean’s collection, with cards from the 70’s, through today’s Manga and gaming decks.

You can see it in the video below, and hear McLean describe how Japanese Tarot has developed through the years.

I don’t know what it says about me, but I’m especially drawn to the decks meant for children and video games.

And isn’t that Marcus Katz at the 17:30 mark?

Moon in Cancer – High Priestess Dressed as the Charioteer

The High Priestess dressed as the Chariot

High Priestess in Chariot's Clothing

The Moon moves into Cancer today, and stays there until Sunday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, you might describe it as the High Priestess dressed in the clothing of the Charioteer. She’s left the safety of her pillars and veil, and has hit the road.

The Moon in Cancer, or the High Priestess dressed as the Charioteer, can be a powerful time of comfortable change and emotional resilience.

Knowledge gathered in silence has coalesced and it’s time to share without fear of being hurt.

Emotional loyalty, intuitive direction and strength of character can give you the resolve to go forward. Even into the unknown.

Try not to coddle yourself. You can only win if you have the courage to play to the end.

6 of Cups

It’s a wonderful day to say thank you – to your family, friends, and even your enemies.

Nostalgia and happy memories might fill your head and it’s worth remembering all the love there is around you.  Take pleasure in acknowledging it and grateful to extend it further.

Giving and receiving are two sides of the same joy.  Take pleasure in both and don’t be shy to tell people how much they mean to you.   You’ll probably be surprised by how much they love you back.

With close relationships, this is an especially important time to remember the history and strength of your time together. It’s these ties that have helped you through your most serious moments – both good and bad.

Don’t take them lightly, close friends really are special, and not as common as you might think.

Venus in Leo – Empress Dressed in Strength's Clothing

Empress Dressed in Strength's Clothing - Venus in Leo

Empress as Strength

Venus moves into Leo today and will stay there until August 21.

From a Tarot perspective, it’s like the Empress is dressed in Strength’s clothing. She’s wearing white and playing with a lion.

The Empress loves everyone. At her best, she’s open-hearted, generous and loyal.

She’s the grand mother figure of the Tarot, from whom the whole world is born.

Devoted to her offspring, she does her best to make their world as beautiful and full of love as possible.

She is creativity and sensuality. And not just from a distance. She’s hands on, a joyful participant in the wonders of the real world.

Strength is concerned less with love than with passion. She’s pure yet powerful, able to control the restless fire of her inner soul.

She knows how to temper her ego and direct it to best effect. Creative energy is all around her, but it’s more spiritual than physical.

She’s a master of control. When she’s on, even a lion will bow to her graces. When she’s not, stubborn arrogance can be the result.

The Empress isn’t sure how she feels in this position. She’s happy to play with the lion, but a little wary of too much fire.

Venus in Leo, or the Empress in Strength’s clothing, is a good time to turn your passion towards the nurturance of others.

It feels good right now to share. There’s power in devotion.

Emotions could run high, especially when it comes to questions of art, love and women in general. But that can be good, as long as you don’t force your feelings on others.

Try to avoid righteousness, even if it’s coming from a place of deep concern. Love should be flowing, not a tool of control.

Mercury in Virgo – Magician Dressed in the Hermit's Clothing

Magician Dressed as the Hermit - Mercury in Virgo

Magician as Hermit

Mercury moves into Virgo today, and stays there until August 8.

Through the eyes of the Tarot, this transit is like the Magician is wearing the Hermit’s clothes. He’s left his garden and is trekking through the snow.

The Magician has inspirational power. He’s focused, clear, intent on his goal. And he gets others excited about it with him.

He’s a master communicator, spinning words like silk, able to convince anyone of pretty much anything.

The Magician is quick, fresh, and eager to discover where his next idea leads. If it gets dull he moves on. There are infinite possibilities, no need to get stuck in anything that doesn’t inspire.

The Hermit, on the other hand, is an old man, wise and slow. He’s not at all concerned with being quick, fresh or starting new. He’s much more interested in digging in and seeing what he’s already got.

His wisdom comes from experience, earned day by day through a long life. Nothing much surprises him. He’s seen it all, both within himself, and in the world outside.

The Hermit’s a solitary walker, though not at all unfriendly. If you’re interested in where he’s going, he’s happy to have you along.

But he won’t push, and isn’t particularly interested in convincing you of anything, except maybe to look within yourself to find what you need.

The Magician has to really slow down when he’s dressed as the Hermit, and it’s not always easy for him. But he likes the meditative atmosphere of the mountain, and is confident he’ll leave it knowing something more about himself.

Mercury in Virgo, or the Magician wearing the Hermit’s clothes, is a time of intense internal clarity. You know what you know, and can see it with fresh eyes.

It’s a good time to clear out stale old perspectives. Shine light on your inner wisdom and don’t be afraid to let others know what you’ve found.

There’s a tension now between the old and the new. Use it to dig through past ideas and experiences. Not for nostalgia’s sake, but in order to figure out what’s worthy enough to revitalize, and what might as well be discarded.

And try not to be frustrated if you have to move slower than your thoughts want to go, especially when Mercury goes retrograde on August 2. Sometimes we just have to slow down a little to really figure things out.
