Politics and Tarot Meet

January 31st, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Not that I thought I was the only one, but now I’m sure that other people are pulling cards on the news as much as I am.

Tarot Politico is a regular blogger for the Huffington Post who uses her Tarot cards to get to the heart of today’s political issues.

She’s an intuitive from Georgetown, who’s been reading cards since the nineties, and involved in politics her whole life.

The piece I just read was a reading on Ron Paul and his place in the Republican establishment. It was fascinating, and I thought very insightful both politically and from a Tarot point of view.

If you’re interested in this sort of stuff, visit the Tarot Politico blog. I think it’s great, and just love when people use the cards this way.

Ace of Wands

The flame has been ignited and there’s a new feeling floating around.  This is a day to let inspiration lead the way.

Throw out your old excuses and start something you really care about.  Passion and fire are what motivates the soul and it’s time to listen to yours.

You might not yet know what’s different but you know your old way of doing things is no longer possible.  A new spirit has been planted and you can probably feel the excitement beginning to build.

Whatever it is that moves you with enthusiasm should be your starting point.  Being true to your spirit isn’t being selfish.  It’s what makes you fully human.

Boston Licensing Board Summoned Psychics to Hearing

January 30th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

According to the Boston Herald, seven Boston psychic businesses were asked to appear before the city Licensing Board last week, after being cited for license violations.

To obtain a psychic business license in Boston, the applicant must prove to the city that they are registered voters and that they have not been convicted of any state or federal crimes.

They must also prove that not only their landlord approves of their business, but also those residents who might live or work on either side.

Psychic businesses are also required to clearly list their services, and how much each will cost.

I’m not sure how the meeting went, or what specific violations each of the businesses had, but if I learn more, I’ll let you know.

Moon in Taurus – High Priestess in the Hierophant's Clothing

The High Priestess dressed as the Hierophant

High Priestess in Hierophant's Clothes

The Moon moves into Taurus today and stays there until Wednesday.

If you look at this transit through the eyes of the Tarot, it would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Hierophant. She’s sitting before two acolytes and sharing the secrets she usually guards.

The Moon in Taurus, or High Priestess in the Hierophant’s clothes, is a time of spiritual and emotional certitude.

There’s a sense that the truth can be explained, understood and incorporated into daily life. Rules can and should be followed.

Instead of trying to force others to recognize what you know to be certain, try using this time to simply share your emotional, intellectual and spiritual perceptions.

Celebrate the diversity of spirit in our world, while figuring out for yourself what rules, spiritual or otherwise, work best for you.

#2 – The High Priestess

This is a good day to give your spirit some serious attention.  Take a little time by yourself to think about what it is that you believe.  What do you think of the world and your place in it?  What ultimately gives your life meaning?

It’s also a good time right now to pay attention to the messages other people have been sending you.   Let yourself absorb the world around you without feeling the need to jump in right away and take action.  This is a better time to sit and receive than to act.

Observe, listen and think about what it is you’re doing.  Through reflection you’ll start to see all sides.  Through this wider perspective you’ll find the priorities and direction that can help you on your path.

A Fool on a Motorbike

#0 The Fool from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

I’ve posted before about some guys riding bicycles down a mountain and how they reminded me of the Fool card in the Tarot.

Well today I have another example, almost just like it, but not quite. In this one the lone rider is on a motorbike and the mountain is covered in snow.

He literally rides along the icy precipice as if it’s the most natural thing in the world.

Like the Fool from the card, he’s sure he’s going to be okay, even as he heads towards the edge of a cliff. His only concern is finding something new and being free.

Fortunately, the rider in the video is safe, and never takes the Fool’s leap.

And though I think he’s crazy, I have to admit, the view from the ledge is incredible.

Page of Swords

It’s a day to dissolve the fog and start looking at things with fresh and honest eyes.  With a commitment to clarity, new ideas and a new sense of authority will be close on the horizon.

Take things in hand and energetically start slicing through any fuzziness you’ve not wanted to look past till now.  Are you happy with what you’re seeing?  If yes – go forward with strength.  If not, figure out what you actually want, re-direct yourself towards it and go forward with strength.

In either case, you need to see things for what they really are before you can intelligently decide what your next step might be.   This is no time to fool yourself.   It’s a time to take charge, be realistic and be strong.

Here’s a nice quiet way to start off the day … a beautiful rendition of The Tarot from Alejandro Jodorowsky’s film Holy Mountain.

This version of the piece is performed by the Italian band Julie’s Haircut and is from their limited edition 10” single Julie’s Haircut play Jodorowsky & Rota.

The original song was written by Alejandro Jodorowsky, Ronald Frangipane and Don Cherry, and can be found on the Holy Mountain Original Soundtrack.

The image is by Jon Carling.

Ace of Cups

Emotional renewal is the name of the game today.  A new way of feeling about something and/or somebody is about to emerge.  Perhaps you’re feeling it already – it’s like that first hint of spring or when a magnolia tree finally blossoms after a long cold winter.

Joy and hope are in the air and accessible to you.  Throw away any gloom you’ve been dragging around and wake up to the inspiration of postive emotions.  There’s a sense that anything can happen and it’s probably going to be good. Be receptive to the love that’s around you and give it back in kind.

Mercury in Aquarius – Magician Dressed as the Star

Mercury in Aquarius, the Magician Dressed as the Star

Magician as the Star

Mercury moves into Aquarius today, and will stay there until February 14th.

From a Tarot perspective, this transit would be like the Magician is wearing the clothes of the Star. In other words, he’s bare and in the dark.

The Magician is a communicator and master of initiation. His clear expression of new ideas is inspirational, and he gets us thinking like few can.

His world is one of big concepts and pure ideals. And his dreams are fresh and unsullied by the intrusion of practical details.

It’s the Magician’s determined will and unflinching focus that gets things started. And all the tools of life are at his command.

The Star is much more quiet. Her communication is subtle, dreamy, and less intellectual than emotional.

After times of chaos or shattered hope, she inspires us to renew and refresh. Her soothing presence can heal with just a wish.

The Star hides nothing, though her language is often one of symbols. She stirs up the unconscious to let us dream again.

The Magician isn’t used to being quite so gentle, but he’s happy to turn his attention to bringing a quiet light to the dark.

Mercury in Aquarius, or the Magician dressed as the Star, can be a time of focused rejuvenation and empathetic communication.

It’s safe now to share your feelings, hopes, and sadnesses.

And if doubt and confusion have created a stalemate, or a climate of distrust, you might soon start to feel a more easy flow, and reason for optimism.

Be open with your heart, and unafraid to speak with love. A few kind words can change everything.
