Business License Fees in Frankfort, Kentucky

Frankfort, Kentucky

Frankfort, Kentucky

Angela K. Cornett, a massage therapist from Frankfort, Kentucky, made an interesting observation in an article she wrote for the State Journal.

When she was looking over the various business license fees in her city, she discovered that some professions were being charged a lot more for their licenses than others.

And it didn’t seem to be based on how much they might earn. Here’s a list of some business license fees Cornett mentions in her article:

•Precious Metal Dealer – $10 a year
•Massage Therapist for one location – $60 a year
•Itinerant Massage Therapist ie. setting up a stand at county fairs, or other public events – $150 each event
•Convention Center or Hotel business – $1,000 a year
•Fortune-telling business – $1,500 a year

Pretty hefty fees for psychics and itinerant massage therapists. You’d almost think Frankfort was discouraging them from doing business there.

#9 – The Hermit

You might find yourself wanting to spend some time alone today. It’s probably a good idea. Take time to look within and see what’s up inside your soul.

Have things been moving pretty fast lately? Don’t worry, it’s finally going to slow down a bit, giving you a moment to clean house and tie up loose ends.

Trust your own experience through this period. It’s through an examination of your own personal journey that you’ll discover your inner wisdom. You probably know a lot more than you give yourself credit for. But you might need some silence to notice.

Give yourself permission to be quiet. You won’t be missing anything by taking a break. It’ll only make things more fun when you finally re-emerge from your cave.

Tarot in the Streets of San Francisco

August 26th, 2011 § 1 comment § permalink

I’m in San Francisco right now and loving it!

And as I like to do when I’m home, I’m running around with my camera, looking for Tarot symbols in the streets.

I started making a San Francisco deck last year while I was here, and I’d love to finish it this time round. But these hills are daunting, and I’ve got so many pictures to find.

It might take another visit to finish the job, but that would be okay. I’ll be more than happy to come back.

Here are a couple of shots I took last year. One might end up the Empress, and the other, the Lovers.

Moon in Leo – High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

The High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

High Priestess as Strength

The Moon moves into Leo today and stays there until Sunday.

Translated into Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is wearing Strength’s clothing. She’s thrown off her heavy cape and is spending some time outside with her lion.

The Moon in Leo, or High Priestess in Strength’s clothing is potentially a time of emotional power. Something beautiful that’s usually under wraps can finally be revealed.

The silence is broken. Quiet wisdom and passion can be united. During this time, it might be difficult to keep your ideas to yourself. But why should you?

Try finding an outlet for plans you’ve been sitting on? This is an opportunity to shine if you’re not over-burdened by self-consciousness.

It might feel a little uncomfortable at first, but letting your wilder side out right now could be positive. The sun isn’t always shining. Take advantage of it when it does.

It’s time to get down to the details.  A new project is in the works and you’ve got the task of making it happen – or at least starting the process off.

Keep the reason you’re doing it in mind – that’s the fire that drives the whole enterprise.

If the less than exciting details are getting you down, remember that it’s the details that build the foundation to any project.

Don’t be afraid to sludge and trudge on through.  It’ll be worth it in the end.

The Sceince Tarot

The Science Tarot

The designers describe it as ‘a creative science communication project that combines science, art and mythology into a Tarot deck…”

It’s the Science Tarot, a group project engaging the skills of artists, Tarot readers, and of course scientists. Various scientific theories or stories are identified with particular cards. The results are really interesting.

The 2 of Swords, for instance, looks at gravity, and how every action causes an equal and opposite reaction. The Empress is the story of Mendel’s Peas, and the 7 of Wands describes the process of expansion.

It’s a brilliant way to look at the cards. Not to mention, a chance to expand our rational side a little, while engaging the unconscious.

The website lists Logan Austeja Daniel, Martin Azevedo, and Raven Hanna as the creators.

While the artists involved are Suzanne Forbes, Shari Arai DeBoer, Kristian Johnson Michiels, Kristy Whitehouse, Janelle Schneider, and John Daniel.

I hear someone from the project will be presenting at BATS this weekend. I look forward to their talk, and a chance to get a copy of the deck.

#14 Temperance from Georgie's Deck

#14 – Temperance

This is a great day to even things out. Balance and temperance are the energies surrounding you now. Can you bring your physical world into harmony with your emotional state?

Temperance is about that perfect mix, neither too much nor too little. It’s about becoming conscious of what you want to be both inside and out, and courageous enough to try.

You are responsible for any healing you might need. The first step is to acknowledge what might be out of balance and then start readjusting.

Sometimes it’s about finding a new way to meld your internal opposites; sometimes it’s about casting out what no longer works. In all cases though, it’s about being true to your self and connecting to the grander universe.

Try asking an angel for some help today. You might be surprised at the result.

Tarot Views the News – Jack Layton

Jack Layton

Jack Layton

Today’s Tarot Views the News focuses on the passing of Jack Layton, leader of Canada’s Opposition, and the New Democratic Party.

I’m only pulling one card for this segment, but as usual, this is not a predictive reading, nor is it an attempt at mediumship.

It’s simply one Tarot card looking at the phrase – Jack Layton’s Legacy.

#19 The Sun from the rider Waite Smith Tarot

The card I got was #19 – the Sun, and it couldn’t be more perfect.

The Sun is inspiring, creative, and enthusiastic, all words that could easily describe Layton.

His passion, energy, and optimism were infectious, and he was personally responsible for many Canadians, young and old, caring about, and even entering politics.

The Sun card is also about exposure, and bringing the truth to light, even if it’s uncomfortable.

Exposing injustice was one of Layton’s political hallmarks. He stood for government transparency, and regularly shone light on issues and people many politicians ignore.

And he didn’t shy away from the spotlight himself, seeming to enjoy the opportunity to be in the public eye. And like the child in the card, he wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable, or have fun.

Finally, the Sun represents victory, and Layton had many. The biggest perhaps being this past May, when he become Leader of the Opposition, bringing his party the biggest win in its history.

Jack Layton had an incredible life. His impact, like the Sun, was positive and powerful.

In a final message to Canadians, he closed with the following words:

Love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

The child in the Sun card couldn’t have said it better. We’ll miss you Jack, keep shining.

Moon in Cancer – High Priestess Dressed as the Charioteer

The High Priestess dressed as the Chariot

High Priestess in Chariot's Clothing

The Moon moves into Cancer today, and stays there until Friday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, you might describe it as the High Priestess dressed in the clothing of the Charioteer. She’s left the safety of her pillars and veil, and has hit the road.

The Moon in Cancer, or the High Priestess dressed as the Charioteer, can be a powerful time of comfortable change and emotional resilience.

Knowledge gathered in silence has coalesced and it’s time to share without fear of being hurt.

Emotional loyalty, intuitive direction and strength of character can give you the resolve to go forward. Even into the unknown.

Try not to coddle yourself. You can only win if you have the courage to play to the end.

Queen of Disks

It looks like you may have set yourself up just right. You’ve created the space you’re in through determined effort and hard work.

Step by step you’ve manifested your own prosperity and this is a wonderful time to enjoy it. It hasn’t always be easy but the rewards are well worth it.

Be generous with your prosperity, and kind to those that haven’t quite done it yet. People might come to you for practical advice or help. Or maybe it will be you taking that step to approach a kindly soul who could help you.

Don’t hesitate either to help or to ask for help. We’re here for each other and create the most beautiful of worlds when we work together.
