Moon in Cancer – High Priestess Dressed as the Charioteer

The High Priestess dressed as the Chariot

High Priestess in Chariot's Clothing

The Moon moves into Cancer today, and stays there until Tuesday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, you might describe it as the High Priestess dressed in the clothing of the Charioteer. She’s left the safety of her pillars and veil, and has hit the road.

The Moon in Cancer, or the High Priestess dressed as the Charioteer, can be a powerful time of comfortable change and emotional resilience.

Knowledge gathered in silence has coalesced and it’s time to share without fear of being hurt.

Emotional loyalty, intuitive direction and strength of character can give you the resolve to go forward. Even into the unknown.

Try not to coddle yourself. You can only win if you have the courage to play to the end.

You may have more physical prosperity than you thought.  Look around and see the support that’s there.

It’s likely that the money or physical support or whatever it is you need is at hand and that those who said they were behind you really are.

Trust your family and loved ones, they really do have your back and were never going to let you fall.

Open yourself to abundance and you might be surprised at how much is there for you.

And when you prosper, don’t forget to be generous.  No one ever does it all on their own (even when we think we do).  We all need each other, and it’s through sharing that we discover our true wealth.

A Short History of the Modern Calendar

January 6th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Have you ever wondered about the calendar we use? Why New Years is when it is, or how it came to be that the days of the week are named after the seven traditional astrological planets?

Take a look at the video below by Jeremiah Warren. It’s a very brief history of the modern calendar and explains why we organize time the way we do, and differently then people have before.

I kind of wish we still celebrated New Years in March, but I’m okay with the switch to using the Sun as our guide. Those extra months in the Lunar calendars sound really confusing.

You may have had a tough go of it this last little while, but you’re hardly ready to give up.  Have confidence in your inner strength and experience.

You have the tools necessary to get you through this situation.  It’s certainly not the first time you’ve faced it so you already know what to expect.

Stand tall and don’t back down from your truth.  You care about what you’re doing and that’s why there’s not much choice but to keep going forward.  If it gets too hard, take a break, but try not to stop.

Remember your power, it’s real and it comes from inside.

Vesta, the High Priestess, and Meteorites

Oblique View of Vesta's South Polar Region

Vesta

While visiting SpaceWeather.com, I discovered that NASA scientists may have figured out why so many meteorites from the asteroid Vesta have been showering the Earth.

In Roman myth, Vesta was the virginal keeper of the family, the hearth and the home. She was the goddess of the sacred flame.

She was also the daughter of Saturn and sister to Ceres, Juno, Pluto, Neptune and Jupiter. And within her circle, she was an important player.

Her virgin status was self-imposed as apparently, when her brother Jupiter ascended to the throne she asked only two things of him.

Vesta

Vesta

The first was that she be able to remain a virgin. And second, she asked to be the one to offer the first oblations in all sacrifices.

I know the Golden Dawn Tarot system assigns the Moon to the High Priestess, but if I were choosing, I might give her Vesta.

Both goddesses are virginal, nurturing, and keepers of the sacred truth.

They’re compassionate, wise, and modest, concerned more with the fire of the spirit than crazy drama, or sexual exploits.

NASA, of course, is not concerned with any of that. They’re just trying to determine why so many pieces of the 2nd biggest asteroid are flying to Earth.

According to the space agency, the Dawn spacecraft which entered Vesta’s orbit last July, has discovered a thirteen mile-high mountain on its surface, two and a half times the height of Mt. Everest.

#2 The High Priestess from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

Some researchers are speculating that the falling meteorites are pieces of Vesta’s landscape that splintered off during a giant collision that first created the mountain.

They’re doing tests right now to see if they can prove it.

But from my perspective, I’m more interested in the symbolic meaning of these meteorites.

Rather than simply space rocks, they might be celestial messages from the High Priestess reminding us to cultivate wisdom and compassion, and a respect for the sacred.

It’s not a very scientific view, but I enjoy thinking about it.

I might even get myself an actual piece of Vesta as a tangible relic of the goddess. At only $34.95, it’s almost a steal.

Moon in Gemini – High Priestess Dressed as the Lovers' Angel

High Priestess dressed as Lovers' Angel

The Moon moves into Gemini today and will stay there until Saturday.

From a Tarot perspective, this transit would be like the High Priestess is dressed as the Lovers’ Angel. She floats above the naked couple, blessing their sacred union.

The Moon in Gemini, or High Priestess dressed as the Lovers’ angel, can be an emotionally confusing time, one where internal conflicts arise in order to be reconciled.

But it can also be a time of clarity, honest communication and almost intuitive understanding about yourself and those around you.

Quiet faith teams up with commitment and the Angels approve of the whole thing.

Try to keep your emotions in line with your reason. Going too far either way could disturb a really nice balance.

Money is probably hard to come by, while time is even more precious. Wherever you look, though, it seems like someone else is asking for more. The tendency here is to gather yourself and your resources and go off alone to think.

Go ahead and do that if you’d like, but try not to get yourself too closed off. You probably have more than you think you do. Maybe even enough to share.

If you’re being asked to spend on something that will help establish an even firmer foundation than you presently have, give it some serious thought. It might be more than you had anticipated, but the pay offs are probably well worth it.

Extravagant or foolish spending is not recommended, but remember the old adage – it takes money to make money. If you don’t put it out there, be it actual money, your physical effort or something else you consider really important, nothing’s coming back.

This is true about your emotions as well, don’t hold them too close to the chest. Be generous with your heart. Remember, you get what you give.

You Make the Magic

January 4th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Over the holidays, I lit a lot of candles. Mostly I did it for the ambience, but some of them were with magical intent. Especially around New Year’s itself, when there was such a good opportunity to symbolically start fresh.

I’ve always liked candle magic, especially the prep work. I love dressing my own candles with oils, talismans, and glitter. The whole process is part of the ritual, and I’ve often spent hours doing it.

But occasionally, I buy candles too, ‘fully loaded’ with pre-set intentions. And if you want to go that route, there are a lot of excellent candle companies out there offering a whole slew of traditions and magical formulas to choose from.

But ultimately the type of candle you use in candle magic doesn’t really matter. A plain white votive that’s been buried in your drawer is as effective as the most elaborate candle anyone could design.

Magic comes from within. It’s nothing more than the intentional direction of your will in an attempt to manifest a particular goal.

#1 The Magician from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot

When you light a candle with the intent to either attract or repel a specific energy, you’re focusing your mind on a reality you wish to create.

Though what you want is certainly not guaranteed to materialize just because you will it, using a ritual to develop a clear focus on your goal can be one of the first steps to making it happen.

If only on a psychological level, candle magic can be very empowering.

But it’s not a way to make the impossible possible, or to solve problems without making change on a practical level.

And that’s true whatever candle you use, or pendulum, or crystal ball, or Tarot deck, or any magical tool. The magic isn’t in any of the objects, it’s in you.

#4 The Emperor from Georgie's Tarot

#4 The Emperor

#4 – The Emperor

You can expect a day of fiery energy and powerful determination.  In whatever you do today, you’re encouraged to do it with strength and creativity – in fact it would be hard not to.  Within your domain you’re the one in charge, so manifest your will.

What have you been wanting to create in your world?  Start making it really happen!

While you’re encouraged to take your power and run with it, there is a challenge associated with the Emperor.  Remember – not everyone might want to do things your way.  Everyone thinks they’re right.

Sometimes you have to give a little.  If you don’t, don’t be surprised if other people start rearing their own Emperor energy and you’re smack dab in the middle of a fight.

Masculine energy is strongly indicated with the Emperor card and issues surrounding males, especially those in authority are likely during this time.  Stay strong and true and you won’t go wrong.

To Understand Is To Perceive Patterns

January 3rd, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

The video below with Jason Silva is about patterns. The patterns that make up the natural world and the ones we’ve been creating with our technology.

It’s called To Understand Is To Perceive Patterns. And it makes no mention of Tarot or anything related to it. But it got me thinking about what it means to understand a Tarot reading.

It’s all about patterns. The patterns as we find them in the cards, their colours, directions, shapes, suits, numbers.

Are there a lot of Queens in your spread, a lot of blue, or red, or green? How many of the images seem to face in one direction? How many Major cards are there relative to the whole?

Whether you’re looking at a spread, or an individual card, it’s when you see the commonalities and anomalies within the images that you can begin to tell the story.

Just as in life, an individual incident might be very interesting, but it’s not a main theme in a person’s experience until it happens a number of times.

In Tarot, there might be one stand out card that is well worth paying attention to. But it’s how that card, or images in it, relate to the cards around it that tell the bigger story.

Individual symbols are important, and necessary to fully decipher the language of your cards. But understanding Tarot is really like understanding everything else. It’s all about perceiving the patterns.
