Here’s a picture of Mandrake as found in the Ortus sanitatis from 1491. (Or at least my attempt at drawing her.)
I found it on the fabulous site Public Domain Image Archive.
Isn’t she a perfect Empress? …

This looks like it would have been fun … back at the end of September, the Seacoast Drink ‘N’ Draw group got together at the Port Tavern in Newburyport, Massachusetts to do a Tarot edition of their monthly Drink ‘N’ Draw events.
You can watch the video below to see how it went. And if you’re in the Newburyport area and would like to take part in other Drink ‘N’ Draw events (even if they’re not about Tarot), visit the Seacoast Drink ‘N’ Draw website to learn more.

Art, Tarot, and Climate Change

Though Brooklyn-based artist, James Leonard, has been touring with his Tent of Casually Observed Phenologies since last year, I’ve just heard about it recently. And though I’m slow to the party, I think Leonard’s art installation using divination to open personally meaningful one-on-one discussions about Climate Change is absolutely brilliant.
Take a look at the video below to hear Leonard talk about the project himself. And to learn more about it, and to find out where he and his tent will be next, visit Leonard’s website at jamesleonard.org and/or his Facebook Page.

Andrew McGregor of The Hermit’s Lamp recently got together with Tarot designer and scholar Robert M. Place to chat about art, Tarot, and Tarot history. It was a really interesting conversation, and you can hear it here. Take a listen!
And if you like that one, you might want to listen to some of the other great Tarot podcasts from the Hermit’s Lamp. You can see a complete list here. Enjoy!

Video Tarot

Video Tarot, by Rees Steel, is an art installation involving five CRT televisions, five VCRs, and 22 unmarked VHS tapes.
Each tape contains images associated with a particular Major Arcana card, and participants are asked to choose five of them for a personal screening/reading.
All five tapes are played simultaneously, with each screen representing a different facet of a situation – past, present, influences, action, and resolution.
I don’t know where Video Tarot is showing, but I’d sure like to try it out. What a great idea!
