The Chariot on the Trapeze

Here’s an interesting take on the Chariot card.

Back in 2014, Hastings Guerrilla Circus did a 12-card reading as told through the medium of circus.

In this clip, Tanya-lee Andrew presents the Chariot on the trapeze. As she describes it in words … “An inner struggle to accomplish progression, through great control success will be achieved.
Sail away with me, a journey to victory.”

Take a look …

Fire! – the trailer

December 16th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

I’ve posted the full-version of Catherine Cabeen’s dance piece Fire! before, but I came across this new trailer for it and thought I’d post it as well.

Fire! was inspired by Niki de Saint Phalle and her Tarot Garden, which of course, was inspired by the Tarot itself …

Fire! – a tribute to Niki de Saint Phalle

July 28th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

The Tarot inspired artist Niki de Saint Phalle to create the fabulous Tarot Garden, and her garden (as well as her life) inspired Catherine Cabeen to create the dance piece Fire!

The video below is the full show as performed at On the Boards in Seattle last January.

(the first segment is most overtly Tarot-related)

Hallowed

If I were ever asked what the Devil and Moon cards might look like in ballet form, I think I’d point to the short film by Chris Turner called Hallowed.

It’s based on Dante’s Inferno and features the English National Ballet.

I can’t embed the video here, but if you click on the Devil and Moon cards below, you’ll see what I mean.

Tarot Teresa de Aramburu

Take a look at this video by Teresa de Aramburu, appropriately titled Tarot Teresa de Aramburu.

In it de Aramburu combines Tarot with movement in silhouette, playing out all 22 Major Arcana from the Tarot Marseille.

The Living Tarot

May 14th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

The Iona Contemporary Dance Theatre from Hawaii, has reprised their 2007 production – The Living Tarot.

In the original production, audiences visited an old Victorian house in Nu’uanu, which had been transformed into a Tarot wonderland. Ten rooms of the house became 3-D contemporary Tarot cards inhabited by various members of the Major Arcana.

This time around, audiences still get to visit the magical Tarot house and meet characters from the deck, but they don’t need to actually be in Hawaii to do so.

The 2013 production of The Living Tarot is virtual and available free for everyone to enjoy.

May 3rd was the opening night of the weekly on-line performances which run through June, but you can see past week’s performances at the Iona website. You can also register there for notices on upcoming weeks.

Though I’d certainly rather be in Hawaii enjoying the show, my living room couch is good too.
