Card Compare – The Moon

Today’s Tarot Card Compare looks at 3 versions of Tarot’s Moon card.
The first is from Marie White’s The Mary-El Tarot. The second is from ShadowFox Tarot by Richard and Jennifer ShadowFox. And the third is from the Golden Rider Tarot by Francois Tapernoux.
How are themes of facing our fears, trusting ourselves, mystery, reflection, and the unknown represented in each of these cards. How are they similar? What’s especially different in each?

Eight Years and Seven Planets
May 3rd, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink
For the last eight years, Brooklyn based artist Jesse Bransford has been deeply engaged with the seven ancient astrological planets.
Starting with the Sun, he’s been researching, painting, and writing about each planet and their mysterious influences on our world.
His journey has led him across cultures, time periods, and political and philosophical world views.
This summer he’ll conclude his series with Saturn, a perfect planet to end with.
His work is great. You can see some of it here, and read an interview with him by Kari Adelaide.
Some of his work will be part of the Sigils and Signs show I wrote about a few weeks ago. But hopefully, there’ll also be a show for Saturn itself. I’ll be looking out for it.
Till then though, you can take a look at the video below of Bransford creating a wall painting as part of his Moon installation back in 2009.
It’s beautiful.
The High Priestess and the Formation of the Moon

The Moon might seem silent now, but there’s been billions of years of activity that’s made it what it is. 4.5 billion to be more precise.
In Tarot, the Moon is represented by the High Priestess, and like the celestial body she’s associated with, she has a heart of fire and one heck of an outer armour.
She doesn’t tell you unless you ask, but it’s taken her years to attain the wisdom she presently sits with. Her silence is full.
Take a look at the NASA video below depicting the formation of Earth’s closest celestial neighbour.
These days, the Moon might spend most of its time quietly reflecting, but it wasn’t always that way.
The Tower in a Doorway

I’ve been walking around with a camera lately, working on the minor arcana of my Graffiti Tarot.
In a laneway full of garages, I came across this door. It sure looks like the Tower with a stairway to the Moon behind it.
I can’t imagine that’s what the person who it drew it meant, but maybe….
