California Bans Welfare Cards at Psychics

November 2nd, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

California welfare recipients will no longer be able to use their state issued ATM cards at psychic shops.   I’m sort of surprised they ever could.  But no more … psychics and fortunetellers are now on the list of businesses considered ‘inconsistent with the intent’ of the program.

Other businesses removed from the network accepting California’s Electronic Benefits Transfer cards are medical marijuana shops, bail bond establishments, bingo halls, cruise ships, casinos and tattoo parlors.

Rare Occult Books on Auction in NYC

November 2nd, 2010 § 6 comments § permalink

If you’re in the market for rare occult books (and have a few thousand extra dollars to spend on your library), there’s an auction at  Swann Galleries in New York City November 9th you might like.

On the block will be first editions of books like Francis Potters’ 1642 classic, An Interpretation of the Number 666 and the earliest treatise on cryptography from 1561, Polygraphie et Uniuerselle escriture Cabalistique by Johanne Trithemius.

The definitive book on the theory and practice of witch hunting, Jean Bodin’s La Demonomanie des Sorciers, from 1598 will be there. As will the more devotional, and significantly more expensive, illuminated 15th century manuscript of the Book of Hours in Latin and French, on vellum in colours and gold. This one comes with a bonus 2 large and 13 small miniatures. I bet they’re gorgeous!

There’s also a set of the second Estienne Hebrew “pocket” Bible from the French Renaissance. You’d need quite a pocket though. This Bible has 17 parts in 8 volumes. And among several early medical and scientific books is a first edition of the first complete textbook of astronomy in Hebrew.

Not many of us can afford books like these, but if you’re in NYC November 5th, 6th, 8th or the morning of the 9th, you can go to the gallery and take a look at them. If I were there, I might.

Ace of Disks

It’s back!  The card from Friday.  So I’m going to have to say it again …

Start that new project now!  I know it’s just the beginning and you can hardly see how it’s going to manifest, but manifest it will.  The Ace of Disks is the seed that begins all new physical realities.

Is it a new job?  A novel approach to an old one?  Trying to get a project off the ground?  Starting a new workout or eating regime?

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have all the details yet. What’s important right now is to start working.  Do it with the confidence that it’s going to succeed – in the real world.

All great trips require a first step. This is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.  Take the step and start your journey to prosperity.

Satya Paul's Tarot Bridal Line from The Art of Tarot Collection

Tarot Bridal Line by Satya Paul

I’m a little slow with the news, but I just came across an article talking about a Tarot inspired fashion line in India. It’s called The Art of Tarot Collection and its Bridal Tarot Line was unveiled in September.

Designer Satya Paul looked at the Suit of Wands, the Empress, Lovers and Chariot cards and saw saris, kurtas, dresses and lehengas.  I know nothing about Indian fashion, but I like the idea of gowns inspired by magic, especially Tarot magic.

Paul’s Empress piece is lavish and jewelled, his Chariot is elaborate and regal, and his Lovers is feminine and flirty.  Apparently the one defined by the Suit of Wands is elegant and refined. I wonder if sees that suit as air or fire.

I don’t know which dress is which card, but they’re all really beautiful. It gets me thinking though … what would a Tower gown look like, or a pair of Judgment shoes?

#12 – The Hanged Man

This isn’t the day for action.  It’s time to slow down and take a close look at what’s been going on. And if you can do it from a different perspective – great!   Choose a comfortable place to relax and review what you’ve been up to.  It might seem like a sacrifice, but it’s well worth it.

Are there patterns in your life that seem to becoming more obvious than usual? This is a wonderful time to pay attention to how you’re life’s been going these last three months or so.  Does it remind you of another time – maybe 12 years ago?  Look carefully at any people, places or things from your past (or that remind you of the past) that might unexpectedly appear. They might be highlighting particular areas in your life you’re repeating. Is it a repetition you’re happy with?

After you’ve done some review, start thinking about where you want to go next.  Your old ways are almost over.  Think about the new patterns you want to develop – you’ll be ready to start them soon enough.  For now, relax, review and let yourself imagine?
