#5 – The Hierophant

Spiritual questions and tradition are highlighted during this period.  It’s probably important to you now to look carefully at the spiritual structures in your life.  Why do you believe what you do?  Who are your spiritual authorities and what gives them their legitimacy?  Who decides issues of morality for you, your family and/or your community?

Many of these questions are answered with cultural traditions. Today, you’ll probably be examining whether or not the answers you’re accustomed to are still satisfactory.  They might be or they might not be.  Don’t be afraid to seek out your truth simply because it rubs against your comfort zone.  Sometimes growth hurts a bit.

You might be asked to judge someone else’s dispute, or find the need to go to an authority for answers yourself.  Keep your mind open, but your skepticism on.  Ultimately, you’re the only one who can decide whether something makes sense for your life or not.

Moon in Virgo – High Priestess in the Hermit’s Clothing

The High Priestess wearing the Hermit's clothing

The Moon moved into Virgo and will be there until Friday.

From a Tarot perspective, you might think of this transit as the High Priestess wearing the Hermit’s clothes. She’s putting on her cowl.

The Moon in Virgo, or High Priestess in the Hermit’s clothing, is a time for practical, quiet reflection. Seeking the advice of an expert, and listening carefully to what they have to say could be worthwhile.

Or maybe someone will be asking you for your advice.

Your home is more important now than the outside world. Start thinking how to make it more practical. You might not be ready to do the work just yet, but this is a great time to plan.

Emotionally, it’s a time of calm. Perfect for listening and reflecting rather than acting out in passion. Take your time. There’s no rush.

Study, organization, contemplation, solitude, emotional self-reflection. Don’t be afraid to be alone right now. There’s lot’s to do on your own.

6 of Cups

It’s a wonderful day to say thank you – to your family, friends, and even your enemies.

Nostalgia and happy memories might fill your head and it’s worth remembering all the love there is around you.  Take pleasure in acknowledging it and grateful to extend it further.

Giving and receiving are two sides of the same joy.  Take pleasure in both and don’t be shy to tell people how much they mean to you.   You’ll probably be surprised by how much they love you back.

With close relationships, this is an especially important time to remember the history and strength of your time together. It’s these ties that have helped you through your most serious moments – both good and bad.

Don’t take them lightly, close friends really are special, and not as common as you might think.

Tarot Gazette

Not that I should be sending any of my Tarot Room readers away … but I thought you might be interested in a new blog by another Tarot reader named Thomas Ross. He’s put together a new blog called Tarot Gazette. It’s split into two sides … on the left, Ross teaches about Tarot cards. On the right, he lists 60 interesting Tarot blogs (other than his own) that people might want to visit..

You might have guessed . . . yes, The Tarot Room is one of those blogs. Of course that makes me a little sweet on Tarot Gazette … but I’ve got to say the Tarot Room is in very good company over there. I don’t know all the readers of the blogs listed, but I know a lot of them, and the ones I know are very good and well worth visiting at their own sites.

Anyway, I thought I’d let you know. Take a look at Tarot Gazette to learn a little more about the cards, and to maybe spend some time clicking around some other Tarot blogs. Come back to visit me, of course, but enjoy your travels.

Ace of Swords

Looking at things from a new perspective should be easy today – and a good idea. Let inspiration strike, then focus on your goal in order to start bringing about its manifestation. Clear communication and precise thinking will serve you well.

Try to be discerning – which direction will get you closest to your ultimate destination with the least complication? Let outmoded ways of seeing the world fall away. It’s only then that you’ll have room for the new view.

Be positive and proactive – you’re in charge and you can make what you want happen. Start now.

Moon in Leo – High Priestess in Strength’s Clothing

The High Priestess in Strength's Clothing

The Moon moves into Leo today and stays there until Tuesday.

Translated into Tarot cards, this transit would be like the High Priestess is wearing Strength’s clothing. She’s thrown off her heavy cape and is spending some time outside with her lion.

The Moon in Leo, or High Priestess in Strength’s clothing is potentially a time of emotional power. Something beautiful that’s usually under wraps can finally be revealed.

The silence is broken. Quiet wisdom and passion can be united. During this time, it might be difficult to keep your ideas to yourself. But why should you?

Try finding an outlet for plans you’ve been sitting on? This is an opportunity to shine if you’re not over-burdened by self-consciousness.

It might feel a little uncomfortable at first, but letting your wilder side out right now could be positive. The sun isn’t always shining. Take advantage of it when it does.

#11 – Strength

Learn to direct your inner wildness during this period of fiery intensity and your personal power is likely to grow.  Innocence and purity work together to balance your passion with wisdom.

Explore ways to act assertively but without aggression.  The gentle touch might go a lot further than a loud voice or an impetuous rage.

It’s a very creative time and you’re encouraged to allow yourself room to flourish.  Don’t be shy.  This is the moment to take action and move forward with plans you may have held off on until now.

Fortune-Telling Cat Handbag

If you happen to like fancy Italian handbags, fortune telling imagery, and cats, today’s post is for you.

A cat friend of mine (you may remember him from an earlier post, Cat Reading) was staying with me last week.

When his driver came by to pick him up, she brought with her the most marvellous fortune-telling cat handbag from Milan you’ve ever seen (though it’s likely to have originated in London … but either way).

Just look at these pictures …

Crystal balls and flowers, potions, and magic books, fortune-telling cats in turbans behind beaded doors …

And on the back of the bag it says “Never let fear decide your fate.”

Good advice, especially from a cat … I think.

In any case, this bag by Vendula London Is fantastic. Wish I had one.

What a wonderful day.  You feel open and loving and willing to let the world know – at least if they ask.  You might not feel like running out and embracing everyone you see, but there’s a sense of contentment and well-being that’s impossible to ignore.

This is an excellent time to enjoy and share.  Be generous with your feelings. There’s really nothing to fear in letting people know you care.

Give as you can and laugh out loud as much as possible, even when you’re alone. It may have been some time since you’ve felt this good.  Enjoy. You deserve it.

Draw Your Tarot Deck

July 5th, 2024 § Comments Off on Draw Your Tarot Deck § permalink

A great tip for getting to really know your Tarot cards, whatever deck you use, is to draw them. This is true whether you’re good at drawing or not (however that might be determined). The learning happens either way. It’s about looking at the cards really carefully, not about making fine art.

I’ve been reminded of this lesson lately while redrawing the Cards of the Day for The Tarot Room, as well as while drawing on my newest wooden Tarot box. As is the case whenever I draw images from my decks, I’ve noticed things I had forgotten, or maybe had never noticed in the first place.

It could be a colour that jumps out – like the gray sky in the RWS Ace of Wands, or the fish-scaled shoes worn by the King of Cups. It might be a symbol, like the butterflies on the Queen of Swords’ crown, or the water flowing behind the High Priestess, the Empress, and the Emperor. It could be anything.

There are so many things to notice … and if you’re a practiced reader, you’ve probably considered most, if not all of the symbols, and colours, and key words from your favourite decks. But at least for me, getting ‘beginners’ eyes’ again as I try to etch the card pictures onto a page, always reignites my enthusiasm for the deck I’m drawing, and teaches me something new.

And for beginners … drawing your cards is a fantastic exercise to use to get to know your deck. The whole trick is that it forces you to look. And at least for me, Tarot reading at its core is about reading the stories in the pictures on the cards. The more you carefully look at those pictures, the richer your stories can be.

Give it a try. And if drawing all 78 cards in a deck is too daunting, try just drawing the cards you pull in a reading. Or just one card from a card of the day … or whatever might work for you. But try it. It’s fun.
