There’s so much to do right now you probably feel you can’t keep up.  Don’t worry –  you can.

Just keep things in motion and try to stay focused on whatever task you’re working on at each particular moment.  You’ve got more than enough energy for everything right now, try not to give up.

Emotionally things might get a little hairy, but as with your work, you’re more than able to cope.

The changes going on in your life right now are good ones. You’ve put them into motion yourself and you’ll be just fine.

Fradella Adventure Tarot – a tarot deck review

July 14th, 2024 § Comments Off on Fradella Adventure Tarot – a tarot deck review § permalink

Today’s deck from Georgie’s Magic Card Collection is the Fradella Adventure Tarot. It was designed by Frank Fradella with art by JP Dupers. My copy was published in 2002 by US Games.

5 Points About This Deck

  1. Concept: The Fradella Adventure Tarot is based on the heroes and villains in Frank Fradella’s Cyber Age Adventure series. Knowing the characters from that series would definitely provide added insight to any reading done with this deck, but with the help of the LWB (little white book) and some focus on the images, I think the Fradella can be read by anyone with some Tarot background.
Unfortunately, the two web addresses listed in the LWB no longer point to any site, and look to be for sale. Maybe it’s an opportunity …
  2. Artwork: Bright, colourful, vibrant, and full of comic-book action (as one might expect from a collection of Superheroes) – I like it.
  3. Card Stock: I know this is a little strange to mention, but the card stock is a somewhat thicker than that of most decks I have. The shuffling is a little stiff because of it (at least for me). It might be a good thing in the long run though, especially if you’re using the deck a lot. The cards are hearty.
  4. Major Arcana: The Major cards of the Fradella Adventure Tarot follow the RWS model, but of course, replace the medieval imagery with Superheroes.
  5. Minor Arcana: Instead of Wands, Swords, Cups, and Disks (or Pentacles), the Fradella Adventure Tarot gives us Staves, Blades, Masks, and Discs, but otherwise follows the familiar RWS/Golden Dawn concepts.
One thing to note … because each of the Minor cards features a different hero or villain, the distinction between the Minor cards and their suit’s Court Cards is a little hazy. The main difference being that the numbered cards in a suit typically show an action, while the Court Cards are more about the character themselves. Either way though, the ideas pictured on the Minor cards are pretty straightforward, whether you know the characters or not.

The verdict overall … I like the Fradella Adventure Tarot. If you can get the guidebook meant to accompany the deck, it might be even better, but the deck alone is a lot of fun.

Prince of Wands

Charge forward with strength and vitality.  This is a day of power, passion and growing energy. Your plan is in place and now’s the time to take it to the next step.  Use your internal fire to take you where you’re trying to go.

You don’t need to wait till everything’s perfect to start moving.  In fact, more often than not, things don’t start falling where they should until you start shifting them up and get some excitement going.  Take a chance that you know what you’re doing and act on it.  Believe in yourself and don’t be shy.

Andrew McGregor at The Hermit's Lamp

Just thought I’d take a moment to plug my friend Andrew McGregor’s metaphysical shop – The Hermit’s Lamp. They’re celebrating their first year at their present location on Bloor Street West, and I was able to get over there for the party last weekend.

The store looks great, as does its proprietor. There’s a lot there at the store – crystals, candles, jewellery, books, oils, artwork, Tarot decks …the longer you browse, the more interesting things you’ll find. (That’s true for the website too … they have Tarot running shoes! – which of course, I want.)

I can get carried away in stores like this (also in stationary and hardware stores) so I tried to set a limit on what I could buy before I got there. I gave myself permission to buy one Tarot deck … and maybe, maybe one other thing.

Tarot Bag by the Unemployed Philosophers Guild

As it turned out I got myself The Orisha Tarot (created by McGregor himself), and an adorable Tarot bag from the Unemployed Philosophers Guild. I also got a little gift for someone else, so I didn’t count that in my ‘no purchase over two items’ rule. Had I stayed any longer though, it’s likely I would have broken my pledge.

Anyway, if you’re in the Toronto area and looking for some magic, you can visit The Hermit’s Lamp in person at 1209 Bloor Street West, just west of Dufferin on the south side.

And for those not in Toronto … you can always visit online —> The Hermit’s Lamp

Gather and celebrate! It’s a day to enjoy what you’ve been working on.  The project might not yet be finished, but at least you’re on your way. Well done!  You have reason to smile.

Follow your passion and create from the heart. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how it will all turn out, just keep at it. The hard work’s been paying off, and you can take a moment to enjoy before heading on to the next step.

But don’t forget, you probably aren’t doing all the work yourself.  Share the glory or you’ll be hearing about it later.

Moon in Libra – High Priestess in Justice’s Clothing

The High Priestess in Justice's Clothing

The Moon moves into Libra today, and will stay there until Sunday.

Looking at this transit through the lens of the Tarot, it would be like the High Priestess is wearing Justice’s clothing. She takes on the mantle of the Karmic Decider.

With the High Priestess as Justice, or the Moon in Libra, we might be required to face up to something and decide.

Our emotions will demand respect. If we’ve leaned too far back or forward, we’ll probably find ourselves moving just as dramatically the other way.

It can be a slightly challenging period, perhaps a little manic. But by the time it’s done, something is likely to have been decided upon.

Don’t be alarmed by conflicting emotions. They’re there because you can see both sides. It’s not good enough though to just acknowledge them and walk away.

During this transit you’re being asked to take a stand one way or another. And you’ve got the wisdom and power to do so.

#9 – The Hermit

You might find yourself wanting to spend some time alone today. It’s probably a good idea. Take time to look within and see what’s up inside your soul.

Have things been moving pretty fast lately? Don’t worry, it’s finally going to slow down a bit, giving you a moment to clean house and tie up loose ends.

Trust your own experience through this period. It’s through an examination of your own personal journey that you’ll discover your inner wisdom. You probably know a lot more then you give yourself credit for. But you might need some silence to notice.

Give yourself permission to be quiet. You won’t be missing anything by taking a break. It’ll only make things more fun when you finally re-emerge from your cave.

Venus in Leo – Empress Dressed in Strength’s Clothing

Empress Dressed in Strength's Clothing - Venus in Leo

Venus has moved into Leo and will stay there until August 5th.

From a Tarot perspective, it’s like the Empress is dressed in Strength’s clothing. She’s wearing white and playing with a lion.

Venus in Leo, or the Empress in Strength’s clothing, is a good time to turn your passion towards the nurturance of others.

It feels good right now to share. There’s power in devotion.

Emotions could run high, especially when it comes to questions of art, love and women in general. But that can be good, as long as you don’t force your feelings on others.

Try to avoid righteousness, even if it’s coming from a place of deep concern. Love should be flowing, not a tool of control.

New energy and general enthusiasm are your gifts for today.  It’s time to start moving towards your dreams.

It might be just the beginning, but you have to start somewhere and you have the energy and passion to do it right now.  Why wait?

Look into your heart and see what makes it stand up and sing.  That’s the sign that you’re on the right track.

Huntington, West Virginia Repeals ‘Fortune-Telling’ Ban

City of Huntington West Virginia - city seal

Looks like another ‘fortune-telling’ ban has fallen by the wayside. Less than a month after the Norfolk, Virginia City Council repealed their ‘fortune-telling’ ban, Huntington, West Virginia is doing the same.

According to Channel 13 News, on Monday night, Huntington City Council voted 9-2 to repeal Section 529 of the Huntington City Code which had stated, “No clairvoyant, fortune-teller, palmist, phrenologist or person of similar pretensions or profession shall ply or practice his trade or profession in the city for gain.

Assistant Huntington City Attorney Sam Ransbottom had recommended the repeal, arguing that the law had developed on this issue since the ban was first enacted. Ransbottom warned that leaving it on the books would open Huntington City up to potential lawsuits.

Looks like Council agreed.

Since Monday’s vote was the second reading of the ordinance, repeal of the ban took effect immediately.
