Art in the Hermetic Tradition – some photos

June 29th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

It’s taken me a few a weeks to get these pictures posted, but here are some shots from the Art in the Hermetic Tradition show presented by the Hermit’s Lamp.

It was a really fun opening night with good people, excellent art, magical discussions, and strawberries. We couldn’t have asked for more.

And of course Ivan Minsloff’s and my Hermit made his debut. He was well received and felt right at home in a shop dedicated to his light.

Opening night is long gone now, but the show is still hanging until July 28th.

If you’re in Toronto, get on over to 398 Vaughn Road to see it. And you can stock up on all your magic supplies while you’re there.

You might even want to get a limited edition print of the Hermit for yourself.

Tonight’s the night our Hermit makes his debut!

From 7 to 9 pm, The Hermit’s Lamp is hosting the opening night celebrations for Art in the Hermetic Tradition.

The show features artwork by artists and Hermeticists from across Ontario and beyond.

My own Hermit was of course illustrated by Los Angeles artist Ivan Minsloff. I wish he could be here for the show but he’s cheering us on from a far.

But if you’re in Toronto, come join us all in person and see the show for yourself.

If tonight’s no good, not to fear. Art in the Hermetic Tradition runs until July 28th.

The Hermit’s Lamp is located at 398 Vaughn Road, Toronto.

Art in the Hermetic Tradition – Toronto, Jun 14 to Jul 28

Art in the Hermetic Tradition at The Hermit's Lamp - June 14, 2012

Hermeticism and the Hermetic tradition are philosophies deeply engrained in much of western magic and mysticism, including Alchemy, Qabala, Astrology, and my favourite, Tarot.

The tradition is named for Hermes Trismegistus, who’s the credited author of the Hermetica, a series of ancient spiritual texts.

To honour Hermes Trismegistus and his Hermetic legacy, Andrew McGregor and The Hermit’s Lamp is presenting Art in the Hermetic Tradition.

It opens Thursday, June 14th at The Hermit’s Lamp and features art by Xris Kukiel, Claire Weigel, Aaron Cunningham, Elizabeth Owen, Gregg McGivern, Franklin Reeves, and Andrew McGregor himself.

And guess what? I’ll be part of it too!! Ivan Minsloff and I will be debuting our Hermit silk-screen poster print at the show.

I couldn’t be more excited about it!!!

The show will run through July 28th, but if you’re in Toronto June 14th, think about joining us at the opening night reception. I’d love to see you there.

The Hermit

The Hermit has arrived!!

Los Angeles illustrator Ivan Minsloff and I have been working on a Tarot deck for quite some time now. We still have a ways to go, but in the process we decided to bring some of the cards to life even before the whole deck is complete.

Oddly enough, it’s not the Fool, or even the Magician who showed up first, but the Hermit, #9.

Our Hermit is a city dweller, wearing a trench coat and hoody. He’s been around a long time and knows well the soul of the city.

In one hand he carries a six-pointed star representing the occult mysteries that guide his way. And in the other he holds a staff. It’s both his wand and his cane.

I can barely wait to see him as part of the whole deck, but for now the Hermit is available as a 15 X 25 inch silk-screen limited edition poster print, signed and numbered by the artist. There are only 50 prints in the series.

If you’d like one for yourself, please let me know. Each print is $30 (CAD) plus $10 shipping. Payment can be made through PayPal.
